Sorry about that lanyard, Forrest. :o

I just traded mine for an Eklipse because the flipping action on the Skinner XM is better than the terrible action of the original XMs because of the stiffer detent but what that does is drive the sharp flipper tab into your flesh uncomfortably when trying to flip it. I'd take a ZT over any more XMs as far as flippability.

Depends what you're looking for in a knife. The flip-ability of the knife is a very minor detail for me. As long as it flips open with enough force to lock-up solid every time, that's all I care about, as far as flipping goes. What's much more important is the performance once open, stability of the lock and lock geometry, blade heat treat, build quality, ergos, and over-all stability of the knife. For people that use their knives mostly to flip open while they're sitting around on the couch, I can see a speedy flipper being more fun. Or, if the most you test your knife with is a cardboard box, then maybe flipping speed matters more than performance. But for someone like me, who abuses their knives at work, in emergency situations, and depends on them during high stakes endeavours, flipping speed is the least of your worries.

Why buy a flipper if you don't care if it works decently? Especially when they offer a non flipper version? A knife that doesn't fully deploy when you are the person "who abuses their knives at work, in emergency situations, and depends on them during high stakes endeavours," seems like more of a liability than not. And the Hinderers I've had only fully deploy to lockup roughly half the time or less, and that's if you do everything perfect, let alone in the circumstances you describe.

As I said, "as long as it flips open with enough force to lock-up solid, that's all I care about." Super speed makes no difference to me. That said, I totally agree with you, it's gotta open with meaning.

Is that blade coated?!
More information please!

Yep! Black cerakote on the blade and hardware, burnt bronze (it sparkles! :D) on the liners. Josh at Razor Edge Knives did the work for me. Top-notch workmanship, fast turnaround, and very reasonably priced. He also thinned out the grind, and man does this thing slice well.
