Carried my Seb and Dunlap today, now I'm trying out this new strop I made with denim. I loaded it with Noxon and AlOx and the results are fantastic:)

I've actually wondered how denim would do as strop material. I'll have to get around to rigging something up now that I know it works.

FWIW, Rockstead recommends a strop made just like mine, and their blades reach a Rockwell Hardness of 65-67. That is what prompted me to try this out.

It works great, but without something like AlOx, some of the high carbide steels won't respond very well. I hope you give it a try; so far, it's working better than my Balsa Wood strops:thumbup:

Nice carry btw, Brother! You're ready for work today!:D

I hear you on the whole competition thing! Lately I have a hard time walking out of the house with my Sebenza when I can carry a Thorburn or something else instead. However, the swedge on the Insingo blade is great for scraping and prying at work; today I pryed open a paint can with my Seb's swedge:eek:

That sucks he's waiting on the CF! I actually bought a stash of MCF last year to put away for "a rainy day". The stuff can be nearly impossible to find at times. If you're considering another MCF knife in the future, I'd buy the raw material and then send it to a maker when you're ready. That way, you won't have to wait:)

Thanks for the advice my friend! I'll have to do that in the future with this material. This was the first knife I've ever ordered in marble cf, so it was a little bit of a learning experience. I also might be getting another custom slip-joint in the future from a new South African maker a friend of mine introduced me to. Working through a translator for the moment though, so this might take a little while to get all worked out ;)

Today, I'm dual-wielding Elmax and autos ;)

According to Rockstead, it's one of the best materials to use for a strop. That's how they recommend maintaining their knives all the time, and considering the insane hardness on their steel, it will probably work for just about anything you could ever need it to with the right paste/compound.

Well hi, didn't see this post before I responded :D

You have to tell me what you think of that knife! I have been on the edge of getting a Southern Grind since I sold my Bad Monkey, and once I saw that new design it really started to interest me. What's the feel in hand?
I don't like the PVD coating they do standard on their website but that stonewash looks amazing on it!

Thanks Char and Blues. What do you mean by AlOx(aluminum oxide I assume)? All I have is bark river green and black compound.

Yes, Aluminum Oxide which is usually in the form of "white compound". AlOx is around 80 on the Rockwell Scale, so it has no problem smoothing out those Vanadium carbides that are around 70 HRC.

I smear Noxon on first, let it dry, then add AlOx. I have a white bar of it that came with my paper wheels. I feel that the combination of Noxon and AlOx is the closest thing to what Rockstead recommends; Pikal Polish.
