Edc weight really that big of an issue?

It matters to me. I wear dress pants, except on the weekends, and they don't support a knife over 4 or 5 ounces without sagging and looking awful. I actually prefer 3 ounces or less, and typically carry either a small Sebenza or G-10 Manbug. They do everything I need.

For me weight only comes into play with multiple EDC items, if I'm only carrying a pocket knife then I don't worry about it. But if I carry a flashlight, or other additional items it does make a difference.

The only time it matters to me is when hiking or backpacking. Day to day I don't notice at all.

Usually 6oz. is the heaviest I like to carry, maybe a bit over. I do have one folder that is around 11oz., stainless steel handles on a 4 inch bladed folder, not a great idea.

My old EDC...

I’ll see you and raise you... :):p

My EDC 1991-1992. Couldn't resist, beg your pardon for the little OT :). But true, amazing how things change in life, now I'm here talking grams of pocket knives :):D. Take care.

Those were the days!

Weight matters, at least to me it does.
If I have to carry it, I prefer light.
Heavy stuff stays at home.

It's not the weight that makes my choice of knife it's size. Anymore I only carry traditionals and only in my watch pocket so it's is always under 2.5 oz.
I carried a BM 970 for 11 years then a small sebenza for 8+ but as age increases my need to be over supplied decreases. Now my entire EDC ( minus sidearm) is under 6oz. That's knife light and wallet. But that's just me...

ZT 0550 is supposedly too heavy for EDC. I love mine and cary it 50/50 with my RAT 1 being the other knife.

Hi!

I believe you'll love this little guy, it's one of the best bang for your buck folders in the entire market nowadays, IMO. SRM 6040...I really like it as a small EDC

Also the reason I decided to try it out, it weighs 30 grams (1.1 oz.). That's 1/12th of the weight of the folder in the right.

I carry it much more than my Dragonfly, TBH. Not as much cutting power, but that's what large folders are anyway...

Tell us how you like it when you get it! [emoji106]
I got it based on your recommendation, actually. Can't recall if that was here or MTo. Anyhoo, it showed up Sunday afternoon, and, so far, I like it. I removed the pocket clip, and it slips right in my pocket. Sharp little son of a gun, too.

Sorta?!

The only real issue should be that you have a knife you can carry that just works as an EDC.

So that includes weight, because if you won't carry it for that reason then it won't be in your pocket when you need it...

Personally, weight is way down the list for me.

I'm one of those guys that cares about "weight". Honestly, it all depends on what your daily wear is. Back when I was working in a warehouse and when I did construction anything over 5 oz wouldn't bother me. Car harts and tough jeans will support just about anything. These days, if I'm not in uniform I'm wearing light running shorts or board shorts 90% of the time.

3-4 oz is what I prefer but I can manage 4-5 oz. Thank goodness for choices...

If I am at the gym, I prefer something slimmer so my workout pants/shorts are not dragged down. Most other times I am wearing jeans or 5.11 pants. If that is the case then weight isn't a factor. Maybe it would be if it's some ridiculous amount for a folder. I hear people say I am insane for having one that weighs 5.3 ounces. That was my EDC weight every day for four years. I sometimes slept with it. Lol. I traveled with it, I worked with it. That blade accompanied me everywhere. I almost feel like I may lose a much lighter knife. I need to try something even heavier to see how I like it though. I actually have grown to love a little heftier knife. The familiar weight makes me smile and honestly offers a sense of security and preparedness. So, nah, weight isn't a killer for me. To each his own though.

Hell, as long as I have a good belt then I'm set :)

Today I had my ZT 0630 rfp, with my Native 5 in the back pocket along with my phone. Oh, and a wallet, flashlight and car keys in the remaining pockets. This was in Dickies shorts.

I, until recently, always had a 110 on my belt, a Case of some sort in one pocket and a mini grip or PM2 clipped in a different pocket. It was never a problem at my main job, but at my night job we have to wear these stupid ass walkie talkie headset things that seem to weigh a ton. So with that and a 110 on my belt, it didn't work for me. It was just too cumbersome, especially with what the job entails. So, I changed the 110 for a Case trapper on the belt and a Buck 501 in my pocket.

That being said, I never take weight into consideration if I like a knife because there's a time and place for everything so I'll carry it sooner or later...

Weight only matters to me during the summer when I'm almost always in shorts. Then I prefer a very light knife so that it doesn't make my pocket sag. This past summer it was a ZT0450CF or a Spyderco Positron. When the weather turns cool and I wear jeans or pants, then weight doesn't really matter to me.
