I go walking at night quite often, but I find I can see really well in it. I think I have above-average night time vision in general...at least that's how it's seemed when me and friends go travel through woods at night.
Ah well. Maybe I'll look into getting one and see how much I'd use it. Might end up staying with me. I keep my keys and things attatched to em down to a minimum, don't like a big, bulky bunch like my mom is infamous for.
@Set: Yep, many OTC drugs are more harmful than pot. If I can find the study, I'll link you, but I remember reading that overall caffeine is more physically addictive than marijuana, which from everything I've observed in life seems to be true. It seems something simply being illegal adds a whole new social stigma to it. But then if we always followed that logic, anyone who is black would still be wearing chains on their ankles, women would prettymuch just be man's property (I think some of you might like this part, hahah) etc. Marijuana is one of the areas where I feel a generally change of view is needed if we humans are going to continue to behave rationally. I see myself possibly quitting in the future, but I will always advocate decriminalization of it.
An interesting note on why I even started smoking it. I had been straight-edge my whole life, to the point where I've put peoples ciggs out FOR them. An asshole thing to do I know, but moving on. Sophmore year I did a report on why marijuana should be legalized. I was given that topic and a few others to choose from, and that just sounded interesting to me because at the time I saw of no reason whatsoever why such a thing should happen. I thought the idea of legalizing it was laughable from what I knew.
Boy did that change. I read everything I could get my hands on regarding pot and os many things began to happen. I started to see how much misinformation and lies the DARE officers told me in elementary school. I started to see how pathetic some peoples views were on it due to how largely based in ignorance they were. Whenever I'd see anti-pot commercials after this time period, all I could do was laugh. They were so horribly skewed from the truth. Much of the "information" concerning pot is. What I found out is that the substance generally promotes peace, is relatively physically harmless overall, smells pleasant, has been used for milleniums and was only recently made to be illegal from what many consider to be a way to control foreign residents (Chinese and mexican work force from around the time) and so forth. When pot was initially made illegal, the things the government told US citizens were outright, blatant lies and propoganda to the core. Think what you will of current policies and shit, but one cannot seriously say all the things the government said back then concerning pot were true. Because they weren't. I believe that still holds true today, though not to such a substantial degree.
When I finally tried it, after getting used to it and out of the whole goofy phase, I found it was a very nice thing indeed. It spurred my thoughts, got my mind going, made me think deep and hard, get introspective and philosophical. Physically it gives a slight euphoria and an overall bodily relaxation. It made me breathe more easily, I felt much more in touch with the world, my body and so on. I felt much more connected to things in that if there was something wrong with myself, I'd be aware of it more easily. Whether a personality problem I have such as my defensive nature, or simply I was tired and needed sleep but ignored that urge so I could stay up later. When I was stoned these things were much more obvious to me. I saw great potential in the herb for helping myself to overcome my problems in life, because it would make them easier to spot out and then I myself could begin to work on them. It's no miracle drug, it shows you the way in certain respects, but you still have to get up and go walk in yourself. But it possesses many properties which I find beneficial to myself as a human being, and I think the world overall would only benefit from more widespread use and education of it.
I would much rather see philosophy such as this spread around about pot, so people could see it more as a useful aid rather than an alternative to alcohol, or merely a way to get "fucked up," because it is SO, SO much more than that. That's what most non-smokers, and even many smokers don't understand. It goes deeper than the body buzz. I'd love to see it's therapuetic properties realized by a more vast number of people. I would also like to see people become educated on it so they can avoid abusing it, which is indeed possible and a reality we face. Moderation, like with so many other facets of life, is key to marijuana. Sober mind-states should still be enjoyed and utilized, rather than simply desiring to be high all the time. Very unhealthy, that is.
