EDC - What's in Your Pocket(s)??

I'm more curious about the flashlight that everyone seems to have. I guess I've never been in a situation where I needed a flashlight in a long time. I have one in my emergency box, but I never needed to carry one everyday.

I never carried a flashlight before 2003, but after experiencing the blackout of 2003 I carry one everyday now.

I carry a Surefire 6P with a Malkoff M60 led module upgrade off duty everyday as well as my edc knife. I don't know if the fenix or any other brand are as good as the surefire, but I tend to stick with what I know and trust. The upgrade just makes it crazy bright.

I too never knew how much I would actually use a flashlight until I started to edc one. I wont say I find it a definite necessity but it is convenient.

as for the handcuffs picture and them being upside down, it looks like he is using a handcuff case made for chain handcuffs but prefers to carry hinged. they usually do not fit in the same cases due to the hinge being wider than the chain. Some guys I know do the same. Hinged are great to limit mobility, just don't get your fingers in the hinge mechanism when you have to grapple with someone to apply them. ouch! lesson learned the hard way.

This was a quick pocket dump the other day because I got babyfood all over my pants.

Is that an LED conversion on a surefire??

It's just a hybrid I'm trying out. The tax payers pay for me a P6. The G2 is got my Z2 bell or head on it to give it a two tone look. I'll switch them back sometime when I start carrying my Z2 again.

You would think that would be the case, but my experience with SF has been quite the opposite. I had to replace not one, but two end caps and buy a new bulb within 3 months of owning my E2D. After doing some research on CPF, I discovered the faulty end cap is fairly common. To me, a product is only as good as its weakest link, and until SF decides to fix the problem rahter than simply replace the part, I'll spend my money elsewhere. Just my take , though.

They may have had a problem at one point, but they do things in batches. The only thing I'd say is that the ones with regular bulbs do tend to wear out fast. Thus my LED preference.

You cannot beat Surefire for warenty or customer support. It's almost as good as the RAT Cutlery warenty. RAT's is no questions asked, Surefire's only question is "What's your return address." ;)

Back from the office, I have been carrying the Tasman Salt for just about a week. Think my Vesuvius has earned its break after 8 years in my pocket.

I've been carrying around a G10 Delica for a couple weeks. It has earned a spot in the normal rotation.

Same thoughts I had until I started to carry one . Now I wonder how I ever made it through a day without one. It is kind of like a folding knife if you never carried one you may not be able to imagine why anyone would bother to carry one. Than when you do you seem to use it daily. Same with a flashlight. Once you carry one you realize all the little things it makes easier. Looking in the closet or under the hood of the car for whatever or finding the dropped contact lense. When a flashlight is in your pocket you use it. How many time have you needed a light but it was more hassle to stop go get it than to go ahead and fumble in the dark?

In a SD scenario one test will prove it will buy you time. Take it to the DoJo try it out. May tick your sensei off but will prove it's usefulness

That said I think surefire are way over rated and over priced. Lots of flashlights that cost far less work just as well. You can get $24 Wallyworld flashlights that put out 85 lums to 115 lums that are well made and durable. Most of us do not need bullet proof flashlights. Other similarly priced flashlights offer far more features like my NovaTav four presets 10 lum, 40 lum, 120 lum and strobe or the option to program your own settings in the sequence you want. Just as well made and durable with longer battery life and uses commonly available batteries.

Try one you will like it

I know which flashlights you're talking about, very well built and by coleman I think

The 115 outputs are only $24.95 and they take either two AA or three AAA batteries. I believe they very from either 6 to 8 hour run times as well. A friend of mine got me one in 85 I think  That's bright enough for me, so I can only imagine how the 115 would do :)

Kind of a "poor man's surefire." Don't forget to add "finding stuff in a movie theater" for the flashlight usefullness :D

Maybe I'm wrong but....the cuffs are in there upside down.

Yes, hinged cuffs will NOT fit in correctly with the Bianchi holder. It was a gift and it is strictly off duty so I'm not too worried. Good eye though.:D

No. Fenix is made in china. Surefire is made in usa. ;)

Fenix lights are good, but I really love my SF. I'd recommend Fenix lights to people that aren't going to put them through extremes. My SF has been frozen, soaked, and frozen again. Still works fine.

So has Fenix, what Surefire has withstood over 20,00 pounds of pressure in a vice?:D

what's the bottle opener thing on your keychain?

i like it!

That's a new Gerber tool (Forget the name), but it's pretty neat. Bottle opener, screw driver including phillips head, exacto knife, etc. They're not expensive either.
