Welcome to the forum... and nice modern folders that you obviously are using..

Thank you, Sir.

I have a spare Cuda I just put up for sale on EBay that I was showing to some FFL buds last weekend if anyone's interested. Why? The Cuda, though a good knife, isn't holding up to the task of wrecking. I'll keep the used one until it dies, though, as I do like it. It's being replaced with the SB4.T - a much hardier folder. I keep my Emerson Bowie assisted on me for 'civi' duty - so it's main use is showig it off to my fellow Texans. I never considered knives anything more than utility before until I found out more about them on the internet. My, look at all the options. I'm becoming somewhat of a collector now. After spending countless dollars on less than quality knives, I did some research and learned more about blades, folders, etc. Now I can find the right tool for the job and spend less time breaking and replacing those tools...hopefully. In wrecking you have to cut seatbelts, kevlar air bags, pvc, thick rubber, cord, plastic bumpers, metal cable, kevlar pully belts, and you have to use it to pry windows, hook point covers, metal, and various other goodies on occasion...etc. So it's hell on knives for sure. My CRKT Aus 8 Kasper pro folder lasted 2 months before I killed it. Let's hope the SB4.T lasts longer.

Someone emailed me regarding using an ASP on a knife wielder. The story? I was moving an abandoned car that apparently was being used as a transient's residence. He threatened me with a knife. I motioned behind him and said the policeman wants to talk to you. When he turned, I whipped out the baton(after a bit of fumbling, but I'm getting better). He started to turn his attention back to me by the time I had it extended in one single motion as I swung it towards his hand. I hit both his knife and his hand. After that it was easy chasing him off. ;) His knife? - It was basically what you might find at Denny's or some such. I had a thick woven Carhart jacket on at the time that I doubt it would have even penetrated. I still would rather he dropped it, though :) Bear in mind his other option was for me to hit him with the tie down chain I had in my hands. Those weigh 20lbs each and are 10' long - http://www.awdirect.com/awdirect/ca...id=9182&secid=89&linkon=subsection&linkid=397 . They'll kill a man if you're not careful with them.
The extra length afforded by an ASP makes it much easier to be on the offensive. At about 12 ounces, the aluminum ASP is not any heavier than a quality Texas fighting Bowie, but has nearly a foot more reach(21-30" versions are also available), can break more bones, and is nearly as fast into action. It's also a good less-than-lethal weapon on unarmed people and dogs, assuming you don't hit them in the head...the end tip is a solid chunk of steel.

Here's a pic of the ASP extended alongside my Buck fixed Strider:

Thanks Vincent I repaired my Dorcy and its working fine, I'm gonna give it another try(be careful though I stripped the threads on the bulb end and had to locktite it).Stretching the tailspring seemed to make the difference.
Thanks for the CRAFTSMAN info, maybe you know something about the "military" series(see multitool forum vic"military" info)? I think i'll join candlepower,i'm a bit of a "flashaholic" myself.

You don't make it very easy to find your post do you?

Posting a link like this -

victorinox "military" info

would have saved me a lot of searching (BladeForums search on military does NOT find your post - because it needs literally "military" with the quote marks)

I can't help any further because I think the reply you got would have also been my guess too -
It may be an earlier version of the German military issue (current issue is the onehanded version) - the "DE" may have been a hint. It may lack the eagle because it could be surplus, over-runs or versions sold to the non-military public.

My basic EDC, an old Wenger SAK that my father gave me 10+ years ago, a Kershaw Chive, Maglight Solitaire, Zippo, and Fossil Checkbook Wallet...

Sorry Vincent we've had a computer for about 5 months I'm new to the interweb, dont know all the tricks!

Generally its a Benchmade Mini-Grip straight blade.

If I'm dressed up, its a Buck folder (forget the model) but its thin with a filigreed silver liner.

I've started carrying my Dodo and Delica as my EDC's, and I'll probably have another Victorinox to replace the Soldier that I left back at home. It's just hard trying to decide between the Hiker gift pack, and the Spartan gift pack...

My rigs:
1)SOG X-Ray Vision folding knife
2)DE1105 radio receiver with Etymotic ER4P earphone
3)Red-ring active pencil
4)Keys
5)Casio digital watch
6)Eagle-eye sunglass

OK... an update of sorts - not a knife, or pager(!)
but a flashlight added to my at home EDC.
EDC_home5.jpg

It's an eternaLight Model 3 Ergo Red/White flashlight (review link).

Microprocessor controlled to give multiple functions - most significant of which are lower intensity levels and the choice between White and Red LEDs (or combined)

The battery life (3x AA) can be amazingly long on lower levels up to thousands of hours....

I've always been a "minimalist" of sorts in my selections of gear - but I must say I am having fun with this flashlight - I deliberately waited for over a week to make sure it wasn't just a new buy infatuation.... in fact I am considering using this as an away from home EDC too since it's Winter and I am wearing a jacket with more pockets.... :D

I noticed very few listing pens or any writing instruments -

are these so common an EDC that we tend to forget they are an EDC?

or don't people carry writing instruments?

I know I miss a pen when I need one and don't have one on me - the typical being in line at a bank or post office....

That experience led me to carry my Victorinox Scientist SAK - as it has a ballpoint pen in the handle - so I am never without a pen.

Does Victorinox make it easy to replace the ink for their little kinfe-pens? I'm looking some over now and see no mention of the ink being replaceable. Thanks.
