S&W Model 27 .357 Mag loaded w/ corbon +P JHP
Ka-Bar USMC 50% serrated
9-LED cheapo aluminum tac flashlight (very bright actually)

(Depending on how I'm feeling that day)
...and I keep a Remington 870 12 gauge folding stock extended mag
as well as a Winchester lever-action .44 mag carbine nearby at all times
An emergency pack filled with rations, water, gear, ammunition and so forth also nearby

Street:
Spyderco stainless w/ kraton Pro-Venator straight edge
1-LED keyring light of questionable origin - attached to my keyring, a bunch of keys, and some kind of a blue Adidas strap thing
Nokia 1100 phone
Black leather wallet of unknown make and all contents therein
A small silver box of mints - labelled "Sugar Free Mints" or some other breath- freshening chemical lozenge
Usually a half-used, three for a dollar "Pakistan" lighter ala Kwik-Stop
Various pieces of lint and dander
Possibly a lead tire weight or two
Keira Knightley and Jessica Alba's lesbian porn video in DVD format

I made the last one up.

Cogratulations Luis -
I look forward to more post from you.

Do you make a distinction between what you EDC out of your home,
and at home?

Seems like there are at least two of us who like and EDC the Acme 636 whistle.
More post: Maybe, I really don't know since some days lately I have spent less time on line than I used too.

Distinction on EDC: yes I make a distinction, when I'm home I often put knives in my pocket that have sentimental value and I know that here I wont loose them and can always pick up another one if I need a beater. On things other than knives, some things that I carry outside I can leave on a drawer and will still be handy if I need them (pen, lighter, coin purse, etc.).

Acme 636: Yes this is a good one, the loudest Acme before the T2000 came out and I have a bunch of older ones, so flat and light I can't think of a better whistle to carry that wont print when worn under a white shirt.

I'll tell ya what ain't in my pocket today, my David Winston Damascus Keyring Knife.

It was there the otherday and this morning when I grabbed my keys I didn't feel the familiar bump of the key or the lanyard. :(

Ah yes.... I play with my favorites - they're things I can't easily carry, or too "precious" for out of the house - however because of those reasons I often do not carry them on my person - they're brought out and placed on whatever surface/table I am using.

The stuff on my person that I EDC tend to be things I use and find more convenient to have on me than to go to whereever they are stored. That's why my at home EDC knife is a assisted opening Kershaw Leek - because pulling it out of my pocklet and opening it is faster than going to where I keep a knife.... Similarly for the EDC flashlight - this does tend to be whatever latest carze I have but again it's easier to use that EDC when looking in a dark corner for something - than to go get a suitable flashlight.....

Yes, this is the height of laziness - but it's my EDC :D

Well I don't have any instruments to measure the loudness of whistles - but intitally I thought the SAcme Tornado T2000 didn't sound as loud as perhaps I was expecting - bear in mind I did have the Fox40 and the Storm whistles.

However the Acme 636 was much louder than I expected - and I was very, very impressed by the slight trilling/warbling I heard.

I think (I'm only guessing) this happens on the 636 because all 3 channels are on the same side - which allows the tones to interfer/interact - that produces the trilling. Whereas the T2000 and the Fox40 (both still excellent whistles) have two channels facing up and the third on the opposite side.

Interesting comments Vincent, yes some things I EDC at home, in particular knife (can't live without one) and flashlight, we do have frequent blackouts in Mexico city and a flashlight is often useful.

Today I had to go downtown to pick up some papers related to my retirement and my wife came with me, we spent most of the day there: breakfast, some shopping and just walking around, downtown Mexico city is fascinating, specially if you know your way around.

Here's a couple of things that I picked up which will likely become regular EDC:

From "Casa Boker", a cute little Boker whittler in carbon steel.

From a shop specializing in safety, rescue and related stuff, a LED and tail cap switch conversion kit for my old 2 AA Mini Maglite.

Don Luis, I also just recently purchased the "NiteIze" combo upgrade kit for my "mini mag-lite". Works great and the LED's are super bright. The only thing I didn't like, is the button on my tail-cap rattles a bit. For the price, I could live with it. Now I'm looking for a Spyderco to go with it for a mini EDC kit. Any suggestions... Don Luis or anyone.

Hey 4416 i was going to say the same about the niteize tailcap. The LED is great but i found the tailcap very poor , maybe im just spoilt from using surefires :D

Having just converted two "mini mag-lites" with the "NiteIze" combo upgrade kit I find the tail-cap rattle doesn't bother me near as much as loosing the lanyard hole.

Yes that's the Nite-Ize drop-in LED replacement for the MiniMag 2AA - breathes new life into a classic.

I did a comparison review of it over at CPF (CandlePowerForums - place for "flashaholics" :o) with lots of side-by-side comparison beamshots -

Nite-Ize LED Drop-in for MiniMag 2AA

vs. regular incandescent MiniMag 2AA

The LED module only is $4.92 from a local WalMart or the kit with the clicky tailswitch is $7.49 from a local Frys Electronics.

Although the kit with the tailcap seems even better value for money - mine as well as all other reports were that the click action of the switch was very soft and mushy - not very positive at all. So although it looks well made being of anodized aluminum - I don't particularly like it.

dunc5, I just read your post along with UnKnownVT. Any suggestions on how to remedy the problem? I to am a big fan of the surefire flashlights, as I carry one everyday on duty. I've been interested in purchasing an Inova X1 for an EDC kit along with possibly a Spyderco Mini Manix or Spyderco Adventura. According to the small amount of research I've done, the Inova flashlights are a very good buy at a very decent price, with quality construction, and water resistant up to I believe 150 feet, but don't hold me to that, may be less. Definitely quality.

Left Pocket: Lighter, Chapstick, and Gerber mini EZ-Out folder.
Right Pocket: Keychain w/ Bottle-opener, BM41MC Bali-song.
Right Rear: Wallet, Pen.

Ditto. I NEED that lanyard hole. How else am I supposed to attach my keyring to it?

cardimon and traderdell, My apologies, I didn't think about the lanyard holes. I carry my mini-mag in a cordura rip-offs pouch along with my leatherman wave and spyderco clipped to the side. My only suggestion is a cordura or leather pouch with a flap, so you don't loose it. As far as putting a lanyard on I'm at a loss, except maybe possibly having a machinist drill a small hole in the tail cap to attach a lanyard. I've just looked at the tail cap on my mini-mag and drilling a hole for the lanyard is a possibilty without damaging the tail cap. There does seem to be plenty of metal to support drilling a small hole. Does anyone else have any other suggestions?

Ok the surefire tailcaps are just fine its the niteize minimag ones that are not good , infact although the mag led conversion is very good and an improvement over a stock mini mag its no substitute for a surefire . I EDC a 6P with a KL3 gen 2 LED head and for me its perfect , the mag LED conversion is just something thats made the std one better and my wife loves it and uses it daily but i cant stress this too highly IT IS NOT A REPLACEMENT FOR A SUREFIRE and the tailcasp sucks . If youve got a mini mag then yes get the Niteize LED for it and it will be much better but dont bother with the tailcap , and that gentlemen is my view on the subject :D
