Many of us live in places where we don't need to carry pepper spray or a gun.

You'd be surprised at where and when you would need these items. Many of us also live in upscale and affluent areas, but that is where a criminal can find what they are looking for. Why rob the poor when you can steal from people that actually have valuables on them or in their homes.

My EDC:

HK P7M8
Benchmade 910S
Lip goo (I live in a dry climate)
Leatherman P4 Squirt

I need to get one of those little LED flashlights. I'm thinking of a Surefire Aviator.

it's alright.

i've broken it (the jaws) four times now. they just don't make the steel very tough.

to gerber's credit, every time i have broken it, i have sent it back and they have sent me a replacement free of charge, free of shipping/handling. so while i'm kinda bummed about the product itself, the service is high class.

the design itself is very cool. very fast to deploy the jaws, one handed action, generally useful tools.

also, i've had it and used it hard for almost 8 years now. if it breaks again, i've already bought another gerber "diesel" to replace it. i'd say i've gotten my money's worth for sure. ;)

if i could give you a recommendation, i would definately NOT go for the gerber 400 (compact sport). that's the one you see pictured above. if you got a larger model, like the gerber 600 bluntnose, you likely wouldn't have the breakage issue i fell into.

I like the design of the Gerber MultiPliers.

However for me the issue was "lock-jaw" :D -

If I applied a lot of squeezing pressure the jaws would lock-up.

I figured this out to be simply the handles deforming at the joints at the jaws - which then locks the jaws.

So the remedy was very simple - just apply opposite pressure - by pulling the handles outwards.
By experiement I found I could "adjust" the degree of jaw/handle looseness.

This however is not such a good thing.

I now know not to apply high pressure when using the Gerbers -
and as pointed out- especially the 400 Compact Sports -
pity, because I really liked its very handy size.....

Thanks for the info.

Currently I am EDCing a CRK NICA large left hand tanto limited edition of 200. I'm real happy with this knife.

Whoa...no new thread in this topic? Could this, the longest running thread in the world, be ready for the archives? Say it isn't so!!!!

Ok,

Today I'm EDCing my ZDP Caly, IKBS Skirmish and a Dyad.
My keys with a Mini-Champ, wallet, Omega Speedmaster Broad Arrow, Sonyericsson P910i and a nextel.

New rotation everyday, thou.

Nothing, can't take any sharpies in work, even with the US law that FullerH has quoted numerous times. I have a Walmart cheapie Garrity light on my truck keychain. What gets me is that at work, we have the biggest scissors I've ever seen. I mean, these are like upholstery shears. Razor sharp, like they've been stropped.

Just had to see this go a little longer. After all of the good ideas, this is my revised EDC.

Keys with leatherman micra
Inova microlight
Inova X1
Bic lighter
Sliver gripper tweezers
Lip balm
BM Emerson with Rave mod at work
BM 806D2 all the time when not at work

As simple as it is, and as many times as I've seen it posted, there's just something about that AFCK  It's got a really nice blade shape, I'll have to get one :D

Always (usually business casual):
Pocket Pistol (usually Kahr PM9 or S&W 340PD) and reload
Small Locking Blade (Kershaw Leek or Kabar Dozier Thorn, or BM Mel Pardue)
Small Multipurpose Knife (SAK Tinker or Camper)
Keychain Pepper spray & keys
Microlite on neck chain
Surefire E1L Outdoorsman LED light
Treo 650 (phone, camera, pda, mp3 etc)
Wallet (id, permits, cash etc)
Traser Watch (H3 or Liminox or SA)
Zeiss Pocket Scope

Casual:
Add medium pistol (SIG 245 or G19) and reload
Substitute Larger lockback (BM Striker, SOG Vision, Kershaw Bump) for small lockback
Add Leatherman tool (Wave or Crunch)
Substitute Surefire L2 for E1L

here are my rotating EDC

- Mcusta
- BM940
- Caly Jr ZPB189
- Doukdouk
- Opi 10 custom (made by me !:D )

The sharpest are Doukdouk>Mcusta>CalyJr>Opi10>BM940
but the one I carry the most is BM940 : good size, light and with clip.
