Hiked up to a defunct fire lookout tower up about 5,600ft in the mountains today. Amazing 360 views. Honestly, I typically prefer hiking up to mountain lakes and waterfalls rather than peaks and lookouts, but this one had a special significance. My son and I tried this one a year or two ago and had to cut our trip short due to him having problems breathing (asthma), so it was always a sticking point that we needed to go back and conquer it. Today we did. It was tough but not too bad. It occurred to me that he was about half a foot shorter than me when we tried the first time and about a quarter foot taller than me now ;)

Beautiful country - that looks like St. Helens in the background?

Today's start was rebooted with my morning meeting with my friend and regional school superintendent postponed 'til tomorrow. I need to discuss the possibility of using the district school gyms again for the 20th season of our travel basketball club and league in the face of all the uncertainty with the pandemic.

Consequently instead of dressing in street clothes and sticking something in my pocket I'm in gym shorts and toting a couple knives in their slips around the house and our home gym next door. These are my two Gerry McGinnis designed knives with speed holes, one his larger ProLine Valve made in his own shop and the other the Monterey Bay Knives Sprocket built by sub-contractors on the other side of the planet. If I get dressed in work clothes and split wood this afternoon I'll pick one to pocket, but things will stay as is if I decide to work at my desk the rest of the day.

Indeed it is. I count myself truly blessed to experience it. As correctly pointed out above that is Rainier. There is another lookout we visit even higher that is near Rainier with a sheer cliff facing Rainier and views of all the major peaks at your back. If I'm not mistaken (I don't know my peaks as well as I should as I'm not native to the area) in the pic below St. Helens is the one on the right (center frame) and Mt. Hood is the one on the left

What is the above knife? That is 100% up my alley and beautiful!!

All these knives have seen serious use...although I cant get the “memory marks” to show...
Red utility knife is couple days old, so it doesnt have scratches on the handle yet.
Right tool for the job and all that...
