EDC XIII Which knife or knives are you carrying today?

I did a small job for a favorite client this morning and carried a favorite work user. I sometimes think of this as my "Andy" knife after her late husband who was a good dude and a retired engineer. When I remodeled the house across the street for their daughter and family I showed this knife to Andy and he recognized the materials, approvingly noting the carbon fiber and titanium. He asked about the blade steel and when I told him it was CPM S35VN he said, "Ah--plasma sprayed," with a big smile. It took him a while to hand the knife back.

I shot these in my wife's side garden after getting home mid-day--this one in front of one of the freshly bloomed hibiscus hybrids I bought her last week...

It's been a beautiful late August, fall-like day here with temps in the low 70's, a light breeze, and dappled sunshine here under our oaks. :)

this comment was inspired by another..

so you carry it everyday, but do you use it? a lot of these knifes look fresh out of the packaging

This may be the most quoted post from this thread in recent memory--it certainly got a number of us going. ;)
My blade brothers certainly covered the bases with their responses and I particularly liked what @Dcdavis had to say and his two pics of the same knife.

My post above with my KnifeArt Sebenza 21 is illustrative of his point as well, as today's pics show off the marks on its lock side and a couple blade scratches to boot, but there are pics of the same knife in the same condition elsewhere on this site with it looking none the worse for wear than when I first had it. Depending on lighting, circumstance, or how I want to show it, it can look either all-but-new or beat-to-crap.

Aside from a few drawer queens, my knives get carried and used, but not all the same. Among my construction work users are a number of Shiros, CRKs, and other comparably high-enders with the marks to show it. They're used, but not abused, as I have the appropriate tools for prying, digging, and cutting abrasives. I've got lots of knives that get carried as EDCs (not meaning a knife gets carried "every day" but that it's utilized for "everyday" or ordinary tasks). These knives also don't get abused as they're cutting tools, not screwdrivers or scrapers, so they don't have busted-off tips or chipped edges. TheFactor TheFactor 's point about caring for one's possessions and treating them with respect is well taken. I find that my new or new-to-me knives mostly go through progressive stages of non-use to careful use to more general or harder use, though some go right into the pocket and onto the job.

I've also made a point in the last couple years to divest myself of drawer queens and not to buy knives that I don't intend to carry and use, at least to some degree. What's left of those that are just for fondling and admiration are a few that are rare, a few that are duplicates or same model favorites, and a couple that are too pretty-perfect or easily disfigured to use. I've sold off several of the latter (some of which I miss) to fund others that I'll carry, use, and then show here either emphasizing or hiding their signs of wear.
