EDC XIII Which knife or knives are you carrying today?

Sunday is generally vinyl-spinnin' day here. I checked out your music vid. Having only heard of James Taylor's group I checked out his discography with my subscription to Tom Lord's excellent reference website and at Wkikpedia. English Hammond organ jazz funk. Interesting....

For my part I spun some B3 CDs today--Steve Gadd Band concert DVD with Larry Goldings on keyboard and organ while I worked out this morning, and Cory Weeds with Mike LeDonne on the Hammond working in the metal shop this afternoon. Diggin' my jazz in the pocket--just like my Sprocket.

Yes, not so famous as his american namesake, but worth checking out (IMO)...
especially if you like this kind of music and instruments.:)
Although they are playing together since over 30 years, I just own the "message..." vinyl from them.

Thanks for putting the two records behind your knife!
Steve Gadd is a great drummer and it's fun to listen to his band (from what I found on youtube so far), a live album is always a great thing!
I also discovered the music from Cory new today. Cool stuff, relaxing and groovy. And a nice hammond.:thumbsup:

PS: Which knife is in front of your records? Interesting design, the holes in the scales looking a little like the ones from the smock.

Seems to be another great thing about Hinderer, that they offer all this nice stuff for customizing ones own favourite knife.
Maybe I'll start with some hardware like the screws... Did you use an extra Hinderer tool for working on your knives?

Ya there is a specific bit I bought that was less than $5 so I didn't have to buy the hinderer tool for $75. I'll have to find it and post a pic of it.

The knife is, as I may have somewhat unclearly indicated by rhyming, the Monterey Bay Knives Sprocket. I posted it here earlier as today's carry. MBK is a company formed by Sanford Owen and Ray Laconico to "release high end production knives based on our designs" to quote their website. They keep their prices down by using the Chinese subcontractors who do work for the better knife manufacturers over there. The Sprocket is designed by Gerry McGinnis and is based on his custom knife by the same name. One of his characteristic design motifs is handle holes which are also present on his own build, the ProLine Valve--another of his designs which I'm pleased to own.

Aside from being an apt phrase regarding knives,"in the pocket" is, of course, a jazz/blues/funk musical term which is well explained by listening to Steve Gadd's drumming or the music on the Cory Weeds side pictured in the linked post.

There was a post the other day in which a member mentioned that a stock #14 spanner bit fits the backside of the Hinderer pivot well. I bought a two piece tool at the big auction site a couple years ago for under thirty bucks that fits the two sides of the pivot nicely. Its knurled barrels each have through holes which will take a rod (this carpenter uses a 16D common nail) to make them T-handles for greater torque or control if needed. Just search Hinderer Tool over there to find it.

Back when I owned a Hinderer, the only special tool I needed for the back side of the pivot was my thumb. I'd just press down a bit to keep the female bolt in place while turning the other side with a screwdriver. If it's stupid but it works...it's not stupid. :D

Cool knife, what kind?

Looks like a CPK FK2?

S&F is on the money, it is a Carothers Performance Knives - Field Knife 2. It’s an outstanding knife, 3V steel, handles anything I throw at it with ease. It rolled around in the dirt today, cut out some sill caulking, helped hack some brace pieces off a rim joist, cut some stakes to hold a stone walk retainer in place and handled a few other minor tasks. Just cleaned it up and it’s still razor sharp. It’s great to have around for working but I mainly use this when out in the bush, that’s where it really excels.
