EDC XIII Which knife or knives are you carrying today?

This just arrived late today, a new Civivi Chevalier button lock. I have always liked a wharncliff or sheepsfoot and this one is quite nice. BUT, isn't there always one? ;) Civivi has slipped in their sharpening as this one was amazingly bad, but a short time on my sharpening stones and the 14c28N is one wicked razor now !!! so heed my warning, if you get one, you might need to tune it up right away, hopefully not and mine was just a late Friday out the door kind of sharpening at the factory.

The factory edge on mine is okay. I did some slow heel-to-tip cuts through the thin paper in a cigar catalog to check. I was able to turn through the cut and shave off some curls. Performance was reasonable, accounting for my hand doing the driving. The edges were a little hairy but this is totally within the realm of acceptance for a factory edge.

It'll be good for use until it isn't, and then it'll get sharpened. The thing with factory edges--beyond not being the best angle or just not being as good as we might like--is that the steel along the edge almost always has some degree of fatigue from the factory grinder. Edge retention is going to pick up anyway as we get a few edges into a new knife.

Started keeping an eye out for one of these a while back. I finally stumbled upon one at what I consider to be an exceptional price for an integral with Nichols Damascus. I just couldn’t pass it up.

I was, however, a bit hesitant because I still don’t know what the deal was with these matte bronze models. From what I understand the color was never officially offered by Lionsteel, but there was some sort of custom run produced around 2016. It doesn’t appear to have been an LE, I’m wondering if it was perhaps a dealer exclusive?

Anyway, I guess this one’s been sitting in the dealers inventory for the past 6 years and they wanted it gone…so I took a chance.

Happy I did. Beautiful blade and overall a very nice knife. Definitely needs some time to break in though.

The matte bronze was officially offered from Lionsteel. As well as two other colors. All colors were also offered in a polished version.

The limited editions were called the Aculus and were an exclusive to DPX. I believe they released two versions. The Aculus had slightly different milling. First edition was all black. Slick looking and I wish I picked one up!

Beautiful knife you have picked up. Enjoy!!
