If the spot I went to Tuesday is the hike I've done the most, this one is a close second. I like it because it offers alot of variety in one hike. A nice lake to hike up to, and a peak above that's one of the most prominent in the area. My favorite part of by far though is a set of boot paths off the main trail that few know about, where you can have the entire trail to yourself. It splits and offers two choices; one a steep incline through trees and then a cool boulder field, and the other follows the creek and waterfalls coming from the lake above. I always take the boulders up and then follow the creek trail down. It really makes for a hike where you get a little bit of everything.
About a mile into the trail, I find the boot path. Head up for about 10 switchbacks and get to where the trail splits. It gets really steep from here, with not the best footing, so it's time to find a nice walking stick.
After an arduous climb, you get to the boulders. Now for the real fun
At the lake. Since days are getting shorter, and this is a very long hike, I decide to not spend too much time here and keep climbing, and then hit the lake again on the way back down if time permits. Funny thing is, though I have nothing in my stomach at this point but the black coffee I brewed at the trailhead, I completely forgot to stop and eat here as I had planned. This gave me fond memories of my Grandmother, who used to always yell at me when I'd forget to stop and eat when doing things I enjoy.
After a good climb through the forest, the view really opens up. At this point it became apparent that the fog I came through this morning was a good bit of smoke as well. This is also a gives an opportunity to look back and see the lake, as well as the boulder field from earlier.
Finally made it to the peak, where I can eat and spend a good bit of time enjoying the vista.
Heading back down and seeing the highway and how tiny things are, it's hard to believe that's where I started (and even harder to believe that's how far I still have go

)
Back at the lake, I stop to enjoy myself for a minute before heading the rest of the way down.
The shaded trail following the creek is so cool and refreshing following a climb through the rocks in the sun
Here's a good view of a peak I tackled earlier this summer. I almost chickened out on the summit that day, but I'm so glad I didn't. I wouldn't even be able to look that way if I had
Back at the ride I had some much needed refreshment
