Sucks that you have to fix problems already. Also reads like you do not trust it not to happen againSo...I awoke this morning having been disappointed with my new AMK Eagle Ultralight, the knife having developed noticeable lateral blade play sometime earlier yesterday. I could squeeze it at the pivot and it would go away, but would reoccur with any amount of flexing or use. I spent a fair amount of time online last night learning about knife pinning and looking at threads and vids on correcting my issue. The short version is that I squeezed the pivot area between two thin softwood pieces in a vise to pop the peened pin heads above their escutcheons, taped the two sides for protection, held one side of the pivot area squarely against an anvil, and gave the other three medium light raps with a domed tack hammer. The pin heads peened just a tad more and the play seems to have abated. I'll not stress it too much to test, but it seems just fine now with the action still excellent. Fingers crossed it'll hold, but I can repeat the process should it seem loose again after use. Carrying it again on Day Three...

..and, yeah, this sucker's AUS8 blade is indeed wicked sharp and its action free OOTB, as I discovered more than once unlocking it absentmindedly.

I certainly appreciate your sympathy in this matter, but I was glad to be able to find enough discussion to understand the issue, as I didn't know squat about pinned construction. As to trusting the fix, well we shall see. It could well hold up, or I might just have to take it a bit further. I was conservative as there's no reverse to that process once one has gone too far and overtightened. I'm certainly not interested in trying to de- and re-pin the knife despite having watched a vid on that.Sucks that you have to fix problems already. Looking through my stuff, I've only got 4 other pinned knives--Buck 110 & 112, Case Sodbuster, and a SAK--apart from the Eagle and Falcon Talons and the Eagle HD's body screws. 5 others are "modern traditionals"--3 CK lionSTEEL euro Barlows and 2 BMK Propers--with much more sensible (to me) screw together construction. Still, a little learning is a good thing and I now have both some understanding of the mechanics of pinning and an appreciation of the time and skill it takes. I don't know if the Ultralight has a bushing pivot. It would certainly be a sensible construction if it did, bearing against the escutcheons anchoring the pivot pins and holding the spacing there if all is sufficiently tightened down.. I watched a nutnfancy vid on the UL while awaiting delivery and he mentioned that it had PB washers which would certainly be called for with no liners supporting the Micarta slabs.Definitely the downside with that type of pivot......On the other hand, they do some magic with AUS 8 & vg 10 too for that matter....I guess they should both steel and knife made in Japan!!! Their AUS 8 is almost better than Buck knife & Bos heat treat on 420 hc!!!!!
Somehow this found it's way into my pocket this evening!
I’ve had pretty good luck out of thorogoods. What brand of the boots? I am looking for a sturdy pair of 8" lace up boots. How durable are they?
Thanks
