Educate me on Strider folders

It's hard to beat an SnG for a daily carry IMO...! Strong & lightweight.

The Army & Marine Corps don't seem to have any issues with Strider knives, I think it was just another knife company that stirred the pot & I've read it all. Everyone is going to see things in their own light & I don't think opinions will change. This thread could have been just about the knives but I guess that won't happen here.

Nobody else has said it, so i will. There's good evidence that Mick Strider is a pretty poor human being. Stolen Valor, all that. Search this forum and it's all there.

Yup Strider is a terrible person. I would not support a man who lies about his military service

Lets just talk about the knives if that is not asking for too much. The info folks have provided so far is really helpful. Much appreciate it.

Is it true that if a dealer lists Strider knives as SnG without cc/lego, then it is the lego? The price listed as ~$420.

How is the cts-40cp steel as compared to cpm30v?

I have many different knives for many different purposes. Many.

If I'm leaving and I don't know when I'll be back to reset my gear, or I want the only knife I'm confident won't slice my hand off during abuse, I will always grab a Strider. The SnG in particular could be my only knife if I were forced to choose. I'd miss the toys, but at least I'd be safe and sharp.

FWIW:
Of all the knife "Bugs" I've had, Strider bit me the hardest... Not Microtech, not CRK, not ZT in my newb days... Strider. Considering how few variations compared to other companies like Microtech strider has, they seem to be very, very in tune with what their customers like. Keeping it simple, straight forward etc.

I've owned plenty of CRK's and actually have one inbound but I've not been without a strider in my stable for years... SNG/SMF... cant go wrong either way. Even for a guy with smaller hands an SMF is very comfortable for a big knife.

The SnG is designed for the average sized hand. With your finger extended down the spine it makes for a blade that does very well with precise/controlled cutting at the tip. It really is a jack of most cutting chores IMO which makes a good EDC folder.

JJHollowman,

thanks for saying the hard truth.
I never knew till now.

I had a DGG SnG for a while. I bought it primarily to try out an s110v blade, which was a less common material at the time. I liked it well enough but I don't really think it was worth the 400 bucks I paid on the exchange. It seemed like a pretty solid piece given its weight, but the ergonomics of the handle were weird, I disliked the clip and the textured scales were murder on my pants. Also, I have learned over time that I don't have much use for big, thick blades. The SnG is not a great slicer.

In my opinion, for that kind of money, it better be perfect (for me) or I'm flipping it. I could certainly see a use case for it for some folks, but I'm not a high speed kind of dude. Overall, I was happy I tried it, largely to see if it lived up to the mythology behind the brand. Speaking for myself, it didn't but that's half the fun of collecting and trading on here, right?

Glad you found the truth and choose not to support a man who got wealthy essentially spitting
in the face of tthose who really served.

Mine is the CTS-40CP and I like the steel a lot. Came very sharp and touches up easy. I can't comment on absolute edge holding as I don't tend to let mine get dull. I do frequent touch ups on the Sharpmaker.

If the drama surrounding the brand doesn't bother you then try one out. I would say that a Sebenza may be a "nicer" knife, but I didn't care for the one I had and quickly got rid of it. I much prefer the Strider, but that is more of a personal preference than a statement on which is better.

Every Strider I have had has been a solid performer.

Interesting thread. I never owned one mainly on the look of them after reading about the maker I most likely will never own one.

Really nice knives, and an excellent warranty. I sent in a pretty demolished knife after dropping onto some concrete from a rooftop. The knife was no longer even usable and Strider made it like new. That is a huge plus. The reason I got rid of my Striders was they developed lock rock. I'm sure Strider would have fixed them, but I sending knives in gets to be a pain. I mahy have just had bad luck, and it seems lots of guys do not have this problem whatsoever.

It amazes me that anyone would spend money on anything with his name on it. It's just wrong.

I have Mic strider customs,Duane Dwyer's, and production Striders. For me they are awesome carries, good cutters, and live up to the hype. I used my CC SNG as my beater everyday carry for a month and I couldn't have been more impressed.
As far as all the stuff surrounding Mick from what I have read and heard is that Mick Strider does not still claim any of the stuff he made up when he was younger and acknowledges he made it up and it got out of hand. If he was still standing behind his lies and what he did that would bug me.
To me it just sounds like he was being insecure and lying about what he did to look better then what his military career really was when he was younger. He made a mistake. His knives are awesome and I don't think the OP can go wrong with a SNG or SMF
