Elk 112 came today let me know what you think

"I was thinking it was specified to have NS bolsters, but the "details" don't specify bolster material?"

They were listed with NS bolsters at first, but then the listing was changed when the mistake was discovered.

I got the Elk 112 today. The scales are perfect. Only complaint is that there's a little bit of blade play in the opening/closing direction.

I ordered two more elk 112s and four more Sirus.....I liked what I got in my first order. My only complaint was the serrarted 110 came with the cheap sheath.

I also love the 112's. I got 3 of the elk and they were all to my liking so I ordered a couple more. They were shipped on the 3rd. I hope they did'nt ship me the ones that were sent back.

That is too bad about your knives. I can't imagine the one with the scales that didn't line up could have left the factory. I would have definitely returned that one. The other I would use. I got 2 elk and they were both superb. I also got a Rams horn and it was great also. I liked the deals so much I took the money I saved and got a lifetime membership to BCCI.

Hopefully it all works out for you.

Take care, Mike Arnold

Thought the Elk discussion would like to see this. Am cleaning up after Blade Show display and have these two elk 301^ 1988 models out. Twenty one years old, notice how one is still a little light colored and other has turned brownish green. I see the dark one in older knives more than the light. It might be from the oils from blade lubrication coloring the elk antler. I like that color, and just decided to start right one in my edc rotation........life is short. 300Bucks

...It might be from the oils from blade lubrication coloring the elk antler...

Probably is...I know that antler and bone are both susceptible to humidity changes; they warp, shrink, curl, swell, twist, and just about everything else...Real good idea not to get them wet...and it was reported that is why Buck would rather glue them than rivet them...(they crack/split around the rivets)...

On a side note, someone here commented that SuperGlue makes a good antler/bone stabilizer...I'm not recommending it; just repeating what I read...

...At least that's what I heard...just sayin', is all... :p

I got my two Elk 112s' yesterday and I am very pleased. Fat stag on one of them with a slight gap in one end. For a $50 'user' I can't complain. As I really like 440C and stag, this one is now my EDC and the other one is a backup. I couldn't be happier.

I got my Elk and Ram...The Ram has to be sent back because they closing is extremely difficult...But it's beautiful and the Elk is very nice...Gonna be a great EDC...

My elk arrived yesterday & I am happy overall. The elk looks really nice and fits well. The blade is a bit off center closed and has some play when opened, but overall I am happy. It was purchased as a carry knife and will give me years of use. For the price it is a screaming good deal.

That seems to be a considerable problem lately. Before you send it back, try cleaning it really well and oiling it, and I'll bet it will work fine.

The mechanism works but it only releases when you push it almost all the way in...Sometimes it takes 2 attempts...

Apparently, this is the result of an accumulation of buffing compound and a good cleaning and oiling will usually rectify that problem. Some members have used running water from the tap for this purpose; I personally prefer to use compressed air, but either method should work.

Thank you everyone for the advice...I will start with the compressed air and then water and hopefully, that will help...And it will save me shipping back to ID...

Just ordered my elk 112. Cannot wait.

It was a close call between elk and ram, though.

Tin Sue...Okay, I did the compressed air/oil and no luck...I blew air anywhere it could be shot in...Was there anything else I might have missed with the compressor? I'm assuming I shouldn't attempt at taking it apart?

My 112 Ram was that way. The first time I thought I wouldn't get it closed but after opening and closing it a few times it has gotten easier. I still have to press it almost all the way in to close it.

Thanks Mater...But none of my other 112's or 110's have ever been that difficult...It just doesn't seem right to me, but I hate sending it back and waiting the 2 weeks for it to return or another one to be sent out...
