Elusive Schrades

Very cool old knife, Barry! Of course it's a Schrade 2202.
First evidence I have seen in print of the model, is in the 1926 catalog, p.26. It could precede that though. Anyone know??
With that jigging it is not much later than that, IMO.

I am 99% sure those irregularly sized cuts or "jigs" are hand done with chisels of sorts. There may have been leverage-like hand operated assists, but George's jigs are more evenly sized, and "spun" cut with machine heads.
Do you see what I mean, with your machinist's eye??
That said, I am not sure when his machine became commonly used. I have to look that up . . . .again!

Thanks Charlie,

That is kind of what I was thinking also. Good looking knife and jigging.

Found three good reasons to "Rip Van Winkle" this thread! (I haven't worked on that jigging question of a few posts back, with apologies -but soon [he keeps saying!]).

Ebay, and then the Post Office were good to me, culminating in today's fetch. They brought me some Elusive Schrades, at some reasonable prices. Finding a Holyoke Belt Co. HJ that hasn't been used up is always a treat, and this one is very full. The Sportsman scout is also very full, and as such is also hard to find. Look at that Leaf-shaped spear blade!! That's how most of them started out!!
The unpretentious little pruner is very interesting! Of course I haven't seen them all, but this is the first knife of any kind I have seen with the French Ivory installed perpendicular to the length of the knife. Kinda cool!

A clip-bladed Senator! Nice peachseed - life is good!!
Great knife Hal!

Nice find thawk!! Some good looking bone, a pleasing keeper that one!

Hal, great find on that one! Not common at all, kind of lost that one on my list if you know what I mean;) Now the remorse sets in:(:D

Now here is a simple Jack, but with a screwdriver instead of the usual pen knife. First one I'd ever seen, in a Schrade Cut. Co. stamping! I theorize they didn't make many, and most were damaged by applying too much torque, and discarded! This one survived by living in a salesman's roll!

Back to the top, this thread's been snoozing a bit;

CHECK IT OUT!! Another Screwdriver Jack has come out of the woodwork! Undoubtedly the genetic brother of the one above, I think this Shapleigh is the third one I have seen.
Barry (1fartsmella) has one also, with advertising on it!

Charlie, those are some FINE examples!!!! Here's one that was headed down the over-torqued road:

I like that one Eric. It makes you wonder how those chips got in the blade. Didn't they call these automobile knives? Or modified anyways. The true auto knives had a square preto lite(?) wrench struck out of the screwdriver blade, I think anyways. Nice patina too.

Another nice show.

Heh! It's like before and after! Lots of utility remains in that one Eric. Nice thing is, you can tote it around, and not diminish its value.
Recent find?
That makes it four that I've seen.

As fate would have it, I picked this up on Saturday. It advertises Zenith Radio Cabinets. The condition is not quite as nice as Charlie's salesman's sample. It's stamped SCHRADE CUT CO WALDEN NY on both blades.

I brought Barry's forward, from his last-November posting,
so they are all in one spot.
Like the advertising implies, I think a "radio" knife would be an apt name.

I just had to post a reply to say a greaat big "THANK YOU" to those of you that have shared these beautiful Schrade knives and especially to Charlie for starting the thread 12 pages ago. I have seen some really nice knives here, many of which I had no idea that Schrade ever produced.

I have favorited this thread for future enjoyment. It will allow me to enjoy these collections without having to actually own them. I am honored to "pal around" with you guys.

Radio knife. Yes. I like the ad knife too, thanks Charlie.
