You hit the nail on the head, Vince.
I agree, it was built for picnics, or watching Polo, or Cricket!!:D
Ah, the genteel life . . .where have we gone wrong??

This is the most enjoyable thread on bladeforums. Thank you to everyone (especially Charlie) for giving me the worst case of knife envy of my life. I just spent a couple hours looking through this thread...... WOW!

Glad you enjoyed it Eric! That's what it is here for!
Don't forget to post your outstanding Schrades, when you get them!!:D

Charlie - thanks for the scan of the sportsman. I've avoided camp knives for the most part, but that one makes it through my filters.

This Thread and the "old knives" Thread are just the best - Schrade - what a shame they are gone, I regret so much that that company is gone.

Eric - I may have missed this - I haven't frequented the forums too much as of late...have you got some Schrades coming your way?

For the longest time, I thought there were too many camp/scout/utility knives around to bother collecting them, Mark. But as you learn the differences, they become quite interesting! I've gone from none, to about twenty in 5 or 6 years! A lot of them were very reasonable too, current one excluded!

I have not seen a Schrade Cut Co (personally) this small before, so I thought it appropriate to post it here. It's measures in at 3"

Nice little congress pen, Gev!! That peachseed is, well, peachy!!!

Glad you got those Schrades Duncan, beautiful knives.

Another big curvy single spring Charlie, the kind we like.Congratulations on both those Charlie.

I saw in another thread Vince, how many are almost appalled with a spey blade. All I can say is they have probably never skinned a squirrel.

Im researching Russell Barlows and the claim that Russell made no Long Pulls with curved tang stamps. But there are a few long pull "Russell" marked barrows out there, that may not be original.
Here are some Long Pull Russell Small Barlows that I do not believe are original. Notice how similar the pull is to the Schrades.

What do you think, is it possible Schrade made some contract Russell Barlows with Long Pulls? Notice also the position of the middle pin on the handle, some are not centered the way Russell and Schrade do, they might be Camillus made, if the pin is off center.. thoughts invited.

here for reference are all the long pull clip blades I found by going through all 38 pages of this thread.
Do any of you think these Schrade long pulls look similar to any of the Long Pull "Russell's" above?

Beautiful knives.

I love old Schrades and have a modest collection.

My problem is that I like to carry them.

Is it really a problem ?

On the one hand, NO! They were meant to be carried, and are still some of the better quality knives out there.
But on the other hand, as we carry and use them, there are fewer pristine examples by the day. How will the younger generation ever be able to appreciate them?
If I had three hands though, I'd say carry them as the younger generations don't appreciate much anyway. I carry mine when the mood strikes. ;)
-Bruce

I have enough older Schrades that I can carry them on a rotational basis and not wear them out too quickly.

Always a good idea to revive this thread. Schrade Walden NY USA 890, 3 1/2" stockman. Other than an someone trying to rub off some carbon staining, this peachseed handled stockman with a long pull came in excellent condition.

A particularly nice pattern, in good condition! Ebay you say?
