Elusive Schrades

Thanks Charlie! Appreciate the info on SS and Schrade Cut Co. I remember you mentioning that in a previous post or somewhere before and that is what motivated my interest in this example when I saw it. Lloyd

Duncan, these are fantastic examples of the peach seed cover. No wonder you love them so much. The DE shield gorgeous.

Lloyd this blue is shocking :) Never see such on Cut Co.

Mike

Yeah Mike these celluloid handles are something shockingly gorgeous that is for sure! I have four Schrade Cut Co celluloid examples now. I will try to post a shot of all of them together tomorrow. I know all about the dangers of celluloid but I can't help myself:upset: I keep them isolated from the rest of the collection in a temperature controlled room in the dark and check them regularly. Thanks for the comment, Lloyd

Duncan

To play on yours and meako's comments....I too suffer from old Schraderitis :D And Duncan....those beauties that you treated us to have brought on a serious case indeed!
I think it does a LOT of people Gev my friend!

Hello my name is meako and I suffer from Uncle Henrys Syndrome. This rare tragic disease can affect anyone.
Lol Meako matey - but to those who are affected- it's BIG TIME isnt it!!!

Super-fine collection of Peachseed, Duncan!!
Thanks for showing us!!!
Thank you Charlie, in time this will grow, I think I need to be a bit more sensible wityh my buying now to ensure this :-)

Here is a nice little pen knife I just acquired. It has stainless steel blades and the etch is still very easy to see. It has celluloid handles  but they sure are pretty. Knife is in very excellent condition and does not appear to have seen much use. Blades are full and there is very little corrosion present and only on the blade tangs obscuring the maker stamp slightly. The channel well is bright and looks new. It has sunken joints. It is 3 and 5/16 inches closed. Lloyd

Oh Man Lloyd - that knife is tryul;y superb matey, Just look how well that knife is made and those blades just nestle in so so nicely together.
I Truly think that a Sunken Joint knife - built like this - is indeed a treasure to behold!....just great.

Thank you Mike - always appreciate your comments, totally agree with you on Lloyds stunner!

Lloyd.....I too would not have been able to turn away from this lovely knife - you are indeed a lucky man my friend!

My friend...how can I not comment on such lovely knives you buy? I am the one who appreciates looking at your fine collection Lloyd:thumbup:

Here are my four Schrade Cut Co small celluloid folders. These are all in very high grade condition with very little evidence of use. These are all around 70+ years old. The celluloid is all like new with no evidence of shrinkage or deterioration. With celluloid good today gased out tomorrow:dispirited: I will enjoy them while they last but I think I will gas out before they do. Anyway thanks for looking, Lloyd

Very nice examples, Lloyd. You've got tortoise, christmas tree, and shell.... I'm not sure what the blue one was called. Some of those old celluloid materials like christmas tree and shell (and a few others like candy stripe) haven't been reproduced with acrylics.... maybe too difficult.

Thanks John and Jake for your nice comments! The blue celluloid (until someone who knows comments) I will call psychedelic blue as Paul suggested they look psychedelic  Lloyd

Thanks for the suggestion, Lloyd! I don't know how I missed that electric blue Cell knife - a beauty!!

Nice well preserved knives, Charlie  Interesting to see French ivory with the stripes running that direction.

I am actually torn, Jake! Some material that has actual grain should probably never run in that direction, unless it was embedded with strong resin. Of course, FI is like a strong resin. Mostly I like this knife, but sometimes I look at it, and it says "grain - wrong way"!

Jake-no kidding! If I've seen that before, I sure haven't noticed it. Was it intentional you think, or maybe an "apprentice" type of mistake? Whichever, once you see it, your(my) eye keeps being drawn back to it. Very cool Charlie, thanks for posting that up,along with that yummy serpentine jack!
Thanks, Neal

I think these little oddities are a lot of fun. It makes the knife even more special. :) Maybe they cut a whole sheet that way. Or maybe it was a leftover piece of the right size. One of the beauties of hand made knives !

That's the oldest one I have I love that knife I wouldn't care to have one like it in mint condition

Although not as nice as Charlies it is in very nice condition. I was curjous to the direction of the French Ivory and it runs the same direction as Charlies. I can't capture it in this light though:o will have to wait for natural lighting.

Paul-I'm also liking the fact that those have a bit of a hawksbill to them. Again something I didn't pay attention too my first go 'round. Must be a little tired tonight, cause I haven't been indulging in anything. Except some double fudge chocolate cake, but I don't think that counts. ;) Those are brilliant knives, more common than I would've thought? or are you and Charlie in cahoots? :D
Thanks, Neal
