Embark on a new snark

If I had the time, land, and maybe some more guys I could probably do a crazy-long multiple-event shoot out. Probably not in the cards right now but it would be fun to get some other folks and access to some more machetes, bush swords, large choppers, and whatever and give them a workout.
Are you putting superglue under the chunk to hold it in place? That could be acting as a barrier between the pieces and keeping it from healing. Let the glue wear off and start using bandages to hold the bits in place. If there's any dead bits remove them if you can do so without doing more damage.

I have land....

I dont know, it's just not working. I removed all the old clunky glue today and tried to restitch it neatly. Bandagings no good as part of it's exposed and the guaze sticks, painful plus it leaks blood if moved around or busted open from the glue. I've got a chopstick splint now to keep it steady.

Good part is it looks to still be alive. I'm just hoping that the middle meat part will start to heal back together regardless of the edges.

Got to clean it today too and It doesn't look infected so yay. But I've got a raw part completely covered in glue, i don't want to keep it exposed.

It stays wet under there, gotta think that don't help.

stuff heals from the bottom up -- if you're not allergic to sulfa, triple antibiotic and some gauze is your friend.
silvadene/thermazene is great stuff, too.
it's probably also worth trimming off the flap before it finishes dying and goes septic.

Man, that thing is going to haunt me til the end of my days :D

I'll see what pics I can dig up and email them to you. Thanks for your interest!

Haunt you? What about that knife build displeased you?

Given what I have seen of your work, it looked like that knife was very much outside your comfort zone, and I think that projects like that are where some really amazing things can happen. I could be wrong, I'm not a knifemaker, but with every other endeavor in my life when I got to do something outside the box that I had let myself get stuck in, I found it at the very least interesting to do something different from the status quo. I got the pics, looked them over, and I am really impressed with the end result. I was back when you completed that WIP. You took an idea that looked to be something no one had done, and you made it happen. That is pretty awesome in my book.

It was difficult! I'm afraid someone will see it and want me to make another :D

You're absolutely right about stretching outside the comfort zone. I learned a TON from that project. It was one of those ideas no other maker would touch with a ten-foot pole, so being the genius that I am, I said, "Sure, I can make that!" :p

The mailman always comes late when im expecting some goodies.

USPS is bringing me A BK5 today..... Which i believe im going to put up on the exchange today for sale or trade. Im just not in love with the BK5 design. The wife wanted me to get it, but now she doesnt want it either, she wants the kitchen set so this is more than likely going to go.

UPS is bringing me my Busse NMFSH today as well, Its my first Busse knife. And I ordered it directly. The crazy thing, Normal wait time for a Busse can be 4-16 weeks depending on when and what you order. My knife was finished in just 10 days!!!

Also getting my rig back from Eli today as well. Had him remove the stupid tek-lok plate and add a leather belt loop. Tek-loks suck my crack. Im just saying.

Ok now for a question..... How do you guys put a molle pouch on your belt? Like the Volta pouch? Do you guys you the Tacties or speed clips or what? what works better?... Im NOT going to rig some zip ties or paracord to my person and look like hobo the clown.... so now that thats out there what do you use?

James I posted up a thread over in Shoptalk asking what knives other makers had that gave them the "outside the comfort zone" feeling. I am really curious as to what some of the responses might be.

Comfort zone? What's that?

When I was getting started, everyone said "Don't be dumb, start small and don't make huge blades, particularly not swords." Well, oops. I must be dumb then. Jumped in headfirst, and hey, I don't see how you can advance if you don't challenge your comfort zone. I'm working on my first full length one, and hoping against hope that the acid etch will work well on 3V. Otherwise I'm gonna need to rig up an electroetcher...

That's a great idea. I'm interested, too.

I want one but with jimping :D

That can be arranged. I don't care for it as you know, but I'll make almost anything if the price is right. Basically, I'm a whore. :D

Jumped in headfirst...

You sure did, and you're doing some fine work

For me, I think the hardest one was doing a leaf blade. I still can't get the grinds right on that one.

I'd love to see the James Terrio take on a sword though. You'd do a great job, I have no doubt.

I'm sending Biscuit the Becker-style bush sword I made, for him to bring to the Gathering, by the way, fellas. That will go out first week of September, so you all will get to play with it.

At long last....
I HAVE A 10!

pix sometime soon.

That doesn't surprise me in the least. You are easily distracted.

I'm easily distracted? Well at least oh a butterfly!

I have land....

Cool, how many machete's you got?

I'm thinking that if I can set something like that up, I want to get a few more machetes and things lined up other than what I mentioned. And some of them are things I'll probably never buy but am still curious about (Condor discord, Tops .230, BK6). To do that I'd have to talk other guys into bringing them out to test and the more blades involved and the more people the more of a challenge it becomes. Still, not an impossible task and I've made longer drives this summer...

Good work. The BK10 grants +3 to dexterity and decreases your odds of having children pelt you with rotten produce on a Tuesday morning while facing east.

Cool. Got a 14" tram on the way and a 12" Ontario. Would love a chance to try out the rest, particularly the Junglas and 1311.

This might be easier than I thought...

I've been trying my hand at flint knapping on some flint I picked up in Montana. Damn. We are talking sharp edges here men. My hands look like I strangled a porcupine.

Out of curiosity, for anyone that owns a 24, what edge angle do you use to get the most out of the d2?

I take it you don't like the BK5.
