Embark on a new snark

been looking at the croc machete -- what do you think of the handle?

The handle is actually formed in an oval shape but gets a little too narrow for my hands near the transition from blade to handle. The paracord they use to wrap it is cheap knockoff stuff but it's wrapped tight and neatly so it should stay put for a while.

I have some pics and some initial impressions near the bottom of the page here.

Well, Murph got the short end of the stick tonight, he signed on as a apprentice here at my shop as most all of you know, He comes over 2-3 nights a week and I always have things for him to do. Tonight was something different. I told him to bring his new laptop. (which we both went out and bought just for this kinda crap) and we literally answered and got caught up on emails for about 4hrs tonight. That's one thing that I didn't anticipate with this whole knife thing is the time I spend just answering questions. So, heres the solution. We, are hiring a secretary, Unfortunately, Murph and I differ on our opinions on what to look for as good qualities of people in our employ. I want a dependable, self motivating, 100% trustworthy person for the job, and Murph wants DerekH to deliver beer to us nonstop at his expense in a French maid outfit. Were gonna have to negotiate.
I thought that was what Diesel D was around for?! The "bitch work" you couldn't get Murph to do!

Father in law gave me yet another computer tonight. This is the 4th one he's given me. Very generous man.

oh yeah my father-in-law gave me half a bottle of jimmie walker!!! of course he had just guzzled the first half but still very generous i think!!

He gave me an ACER once, and while we were out west, I guess lightening got to it, a surge, something, and it burned up. SO, he gave me another Acer. Then he comes over one day with a box, and bought me a brand new HP Touch Smart laptop. Then he asks me the other night if I wanted another home computer, and I think my hard drive is going out, so I took him up on the offer. It included a wireless keyboard, wireless mouse, wireless printer, and also gave a 1TB spare HD. Damn.

Dang. I wouldn't mind that. Cool father-in-law. Mine's pretty darn awesome too though. For one, he's got an entire set of reloading equipment he's giving me, which I'm stoked about.

He is a cool fil. He gave me a belt sander, drill press, random tools, etc, as well.

Late to the party, again... I hope you guys saved me some croutons and bacon bits.

Not in Kentucky. You should see the salad bars there!

Dressing on the side, please.

I had a dog that could shoot a good salad too. Damn thing loved corn though. I can't abide a corn squirting dog. I draw the line there.

No worse than an egg-suckin' dog, I reckon. Don't get me started on corn-holing, though... I've only lived in East Tennessee for a year, and just between you and me, I'm still kinda afraid to ask what that means.

Were gonna have to negotiate.

I'd offer to help, but I hate answering e-mails, I look ridiculous in a French maid outfit and I'd probably drink all your beer. I can grind some, though.

Got my modded MAP3500 back today, Hell yes! Exactly what I wanted, if anybody's after a "Tactical nylon" alterations guy, I can recommend a guy.

Pretty cool stuff, the Croc machete is THICK for a "machete", almost 3/16ths. So I placed another order with them for the Condor Matagi and a 14" tram machete and have a 12" ontario coming from another store along with some other random odds and ends. Gonna do a machete shoot-out with my KB grass machete, marbles scout machete, CS kukri machete and Ontario kukri.
You're saving me a LOT of money Hoss, waiting on the results. But I don't have much interests in a 3/16" Machete depending on length, unless it's a Swabbie, in which case It can be .25 ;)

Bought a $2 pink polka dotted 3LED keychain light while at Wal-Mart check out line. It was the only thing I could find and I'm absolutely sick if not having a flashlight inthe house. Don't care if it's girly, I've strapped that sum'bich to my SAK and will wear it with pride..

It's going to be interesting but I don't expect a clear winner. They will preform differently at different things. The tram and the marbles are probably going to be the most versatile since they are standard machetes with the Ontario being right behind them. If I had a legit belt sander and could even the grind out on the Cold Steel kukri machete and optimize it then that one would be a serious contender. The KB Grass Machete is a little ironic because it's too heavy to be cutting grass and is better for chopping, though Ka-Bar says that's not what it's for.

If I had the time, land, and maybe some more guys I could probably do a crazy-long multiple-event shoot out. Probably not in the cards right now but it would be fun to get some other folks and access to some more machetes, bush swords, large choppers, and whatever and give them a workout.

P.S. Becker finger hasn't healed one bit, not even the tiniest amount that I can tell.

Are you putting superglue under the chunk to hold it in place? That could be acting as a barrier between the pieces and keeping it from healing. Let the glue wear off and start using bandages to hold the bits in place. If there's any dead bits remove them if you can do so without doing more damage.

I dont know, it's just not working. I removed all the old clunky glue today and tried to restitch it neatly. Bandagings no good as part of it's exposed and the guaze sticks, painful plus it leaks blood if moved around or busted open from the glue. I've got a chopstick splint now to keep it steady.

Good part is it looks to still be alive. I'm just hoping that the middle meat part will start to heal back together regardless of the edges.

Got to clean it today too and It doesn't look infected so yay. But I've got a raw part completely covered in glue, i don't want to keep it exposed.

It stays wet under there, gotta think that don't help.

You've got to keep it stable first and foremost, but if you can sit down and take the bandages and stuff off and let it breath without disturbing it, like maybe after work sitting in front of the TV, that would help it. Neosporin has antibiotics in it to prevent infection but I think it also has aloe and stuff to promote faster healing. Keep the wound clean and definitely wash your other hand before changing the bandages or messing with it to prevent infection.

It's not going to heal quickly, especially without stitches. If I correctly understand how cuts heal, it's going to start healing first where the chunk is still attached to the finger and work it's way up between the two pieces, so that would take a while. But I'm no doctor, I just know how to bandage them up until you get to the doctor.
