Emerson Gallery and Glossary

Thanks S.T.R.! I used a piece Ghost Jade for the backspacer. Had a piece left over from something I made for a friend;).

Riverwarrior, That's a cool photo! The blade looks like it has satin flats with black bevels and matches the can nicely.

New to Emersons and snagged 5 pretty quick. The 14 and SOCFK are keepers, for sure. The 7s are great, but don't feel as secure for a heavy task, more EDC general cutting.

I've been enjoying these two beauties :-). Old school meets new school. The 99 CQC-7 is the smoothest Emerson I've ever owned/handled to date. Maybe it's got something to do with being my 2014 models elder by 15 years, and like wine....... only gets better with time, hehe. It definitely is broke in, and "I can't believe it's not butter", in the smoothness/action department. Also, the Bead Blasted finished blade is fantastic and hides scratches quite well. Not to mention, the thinner/slimmer handle profile is ergonomic goodness in hand.

GuestWho101, your old CQC-7 is the bead blasted finish, not the hard chrome. The hard chrome almost has a frosted bright sterling silver look to it, not the dull grey. The older Emerson's use thinner liners and a much longer 2nd detent tab so there is less pressure from the 2 detents on the blade compared to modern EKI'. Nice pair BTW!

Thanks! I kind of figured that :-), and thought to myself....... "hey, this kind of looks bead blasted", but since it was advertised as a "hard chrome" finish. I just put what the previous owner had stated.

Emerson still uses the same formula of steel and heat treat for that and to this day, 154CM. Not to be confused for another brands 154CM, magically different and better:D! Early Emerson custom knives are ATS-34 but I believe that the EKI knives are Crucible 154CM from the late 90's and on to this day.

Thanks for the history lesson and FYI! I did a quick search after I asked you the blade steel question and yielded the same results. Hence the disappearance of said question, before you'd answered. Still that's very nice to know. Especially with great talks of EKI's heat treat and overall durability of 154CM. I originally asked for clarification, since I knew Mr. Emerson also collaborated with Benchmade and produced folders in ATS-34.
