Emerson Sheepdog Flipper lacking detent

Yes OM I saw it and like I said will answer in greater detail when I have a chance this afternoon.

If you want a Taiwanese built knife, there are plenty of options. Your post is the epitome of why a charged reaction can occur in this subforum in threads of this type. I'll grant you benefit of the doubt with only 47 posts, but this is an Emerson subforum. That means Emerson fans populate this subforum. Which in turn means we like what Emerson Knife Incorporated is, not what it isn't.

And you should learn a bit more about knives if you truly think a Kershaw Emerson is "better made" than a real Emerson.

I'm into knives since 2005, so the fact that I've only 47 posts on BF doesn't mean that I've never had Emersons in my hands [In fact I had a lot of them] and I don't know which subforum it is and you must treat me like a fool. :) EOT

Then what good are you contributing to this thread? Haven't said any opinion other than how crappy you think Emerson knives are. If you think Taiwan made, and kershaw emersons are better then there's really no point for you being here. The point of the thread is to help the OP, and give input on the situation of his knife, correct?

Stinks about the knife. But I would have sent it in and dealt with EKI first before making any kind of judgement. They are new to the flipper scene. Look at the first DPX HEST folder. It was a disaster! But now their 2nd run, HEST/f 2.0, is amazing with all those issues fixed.

I like emersons knives and have had the same one since 2000 when my dad bought it for me.

They will make this right. Just give them the chance.

I went on to say that I appreciate some of Emerson's designs as well as other elements of the company. Number one on that list I will agree with you on, being American made. The "dependable quality product, backed by a great guarantee" are debatable. In this specific case, OP's product was neither dependable or of good quality, and the main issue here is the "guarantee" A.K.A. "restocking fee" or "fuck you fee" that will be applied if you want to return a defective product. Thanks for your time.

I thought the restocking fee does not apply if the product is defective.

I guess it's difficult to determine the "tone" a post intends. I didn't try to "treat you like a fool".

Wow, a "Strider Guy" talking about Customer Service and QC issues???? Don't even get started on the Maker's reputation or lack there of.
All I know is that whenever I have had a problem with an Emerson Knife ( very few times), EKI always fixed the problem. The only thing they charge for is sharpening and shipping. Let me know what Company doesn't charge for those things?
Oh yeah, I never started a bash thread and posted a video, before giving the company a chance to fix the issue.

All the other people coming out of the woodwork to bash EKI, never seen you in the Emerson Forum before.
Just a piece of advice to all the bashers, If a respected MOD who probably knows more about knives that most of us on this forum, says that he uses and has hardly ever had a problem with his Emersons, what does that tell you?

Alway's taking the easy way out.
Just bash someone else, when what you are 'protecting' is being bashed....

Maybe you should go to page #1 and take the time to read my posts in this thread (I know, that would require a little time)

You would realize that I never 'bashed' Emerson or the Rep, and what I wrote was an opinion of this particular knife, and the Rep's response.
This could have been any manufacture and any knife, my response would have been the same.

But ya, go ahead and bash Strider if it makes you feel better, I will even help you:

Every Strider has lock Rock
Stolen Valour
Striders can't cut
Their CS sucks
They take forever to fix a knife

Please feel free to add to this list.

I admit, it feels good to shut my brain off and just bash, then to actually try to think constructively and try to add something to a thread.....

So I have followed this thread since the start. I own an emerson and highly respect the views of EE. I was actually saving for THAT exact knife. As someone who works in management and deals in problem solving with the public, I would want to inspect it to discover the cause for defect and would wait to see the product before making a decision. That just makes since.

I am disappointed by EKI with regards to the quality of that specific knife. The OP has the right to do what he feels is best for him. It's not appropriate to judge his decision to keep/return/replace/ or do as he sees fit with the knife. As I said earlier I am genuinely interested in this model and I am glad you posted so I am aware of the issue. My desire to own currently outweighs the risks now presented.

What saddens me on this Easter Sunday is the squandered opportunities. I was slightly taken back at the vulgarity by the rep. But, It doesn't detract from the company because as he stated, he does not work for EKI. There was an opportunity to put a good foot foreword and provide a positive interaction. I think this thread could have been closed before it resorted to ugliness. This thread has moved to a yes I support EKI or no I don't instead of an informative "here is a problem I want others to be aware of"

Love thy neighbor. To the OP: I hope you receive fair treatment from EKI. To EKI, I know you will do the right thing regarding his purchase. To all: I hope you have time today with those who care for you.

Lefty, ER is not a customer service representative for Emerson Knife Incorporated, he is a moderator who donates his time as a courtesy to BladeForum and EKI. He said that the initial contact was not handled properly (in his opinion) by whomever the OP spoke with.

Maybe he needs to change his name then.
'EmersonREP' and Moderator status implies that he represents EKI.

This thread started in General Knife Discussion.

Perhaps the best thing 'EmersonREP' could have done was not respond at all.
Due to his name and status, I believed he was representing Emerson.

His initial response was something I am sure an EmersonREP would not write....

I recently added this knife to my EDC rotation. I've had no problem in anyway connected to the above alleged issues. I've had more problems with Spiderco opening in my pocket than I have with Emerson. I can't express how satisfied I am with the dozen or so Emerson's that I've been able to collect. The Sheepdog to me is the best of all my Emerson's and will be with me for the long haul. Just my opinion for what it's worth. Been carrying a pocket knife for over 50 years. My Dad instilled in me if I got my pants on I've a knife in my pocket and they're not dull.

You don't need to have 1,000,000 posts to have common sense.

You just need to A) be able to read.
B) check the fanboy in you at the door.
C) be able to understand what you are reading.

This is NOT about Emerson.

EKI makes excellent knives.

This is about ONE knife that has an issue.

In the history of manufactured knives, every company puts out a lemon every once in a while.

No big deal. Just make the customer happy and move on.....

A PM was sent to the OP.

If that was the way the contributions to this thread were posed, it would not have gone in the direction it went.

I've just reread my own posts, and am comfortable with my objectivity here. I would offer the same thoughts for any other brand - that the manufacturer gets the opportunity to possess the knife in question to determine what it right.

I wish we could all just keep it at this. ^^^

Maybe as a community we could all work together to learn and resolve issues like this.
When you stop thinking, and start bashing, nothing gets done.

This thread should have been closed a long time ago.
Honestly, it never needed to go past page 1.

Happy Easter.

JR88, your post made me laugh. I'm Sorry if I came across as bashing you. I'm just tired of people who come in here and bash the knives without giving EKI a chance to make it right. Does the knife in the video look bad? Yes it does. Did the OP do something to it? IDK. Is it defective ? Maybe. Will EKI make it right ? Yes they will. At least that has been my experience and what I have researched.

What if I went into the Strider forum, where you had never seen me before and started bashing Strider with all the same old stuff you have heard over and over before? The only thing is that EKI is known for going above and beyond when it comes to customer service.

Anyway , everyone have a Great Easter and use your knives!

PS, Leftytwogunz if I offended you or if you felt like I bashed you, I apologize.
