Ergonomic Favorite Spyders?

Just read through 3 pages of this over at the spyderco forums, and one page here.
Not one mention of the proficient/bushcraft? Absolutely love that handle on a fixed blade! And the southfork.
For folders - chaparral, GB1, caly3 (oddly, not the 3.5)

big hands - Millie fits like a glove...

I also like the PM2 - fixed blade I like the Lum Tanto...

Of the Spydies I own, I'd say the Stretch or Stretch 2. The Stretch 2 is a bit better fit with gloves, but they are both great without! However this thread has really got me wanting to try a Caly 3!

Ever since the introduction of the TEMPERANCE 1 and STREETBEAT models were introduced I've noticed that Spyderco has really done an excellent job on their fixed blade handles in particular. The TEMP 1 is one of my all time favorites for a lot of reasons but most of my friends tell me that they have never found a handle on a commercially made fixed blade knife as good as the one on the TEMP 1.

Well since then they've only gotten better IMO. I'm dead serious about wanting to see a Sprint Run of the original TEMP 1 model>> if they would do a blade with one of the newer/better blade steels would be great but they can leave the handle just the way it is IMO. I've not yet got to test one but I've also heard that the new RONIN model has a superb handle as well.

Teach a newbie, what model is that?

That is the OCELOT model. I used to have a couple of those and the only reason I got rid of both of mine were the "pawprints" which left holes in the G-10 scales. The problem was if you did indeed use the knife for what it was intended to be used for it was almost impossible to get all the guts, blood and other residue from the game/animal you skinned or field dressed and the knife would ultimately stink really bad.

I found the only way to clean it was to take some chlorine based cleanser like Comet or Ajax and take a toothbrush and carefully clean out each individual pawprint hole. Needless to say it was a PITA to get it properly cleaned and sanitized. But the ergonomics of that model were superb just like the other Wegner models that Spyderco did years ago. The big brother of that model was the model C-48 and it was a great outdoor knife with similar ergonomics.

But I would love to see a Sprint Run of the OCELOT in one of the exotic Japanese tool steels>> and needless to say without the paw prints this time.

It is the Wegner designed Ocelot.
I really like the ergos. Blade location relative to the handle is good for many tasks.
Also has jimping near the tip of the spine, similar to a more common Jester. I like this for finer detail cuts.

I wish we could see a return of the model with FFG blade and solid G10 or FRN handle.

I don't use it for cleaning animals (choose a fixed blade for that) but it works great for EDC tasks. Blow it out occasionally with an air compressor if it gets cruddy.

I like the Military, PM2 and Stretch. Fixed blade has to be the Southfork.

The Native 5 and Caly 3 are also very comfortable after I radiused the edges of the scales.

The big surprise and probably my most comfortable Spyderco is the micarta JD Smith.

Sage 2 and Native. But all are among the best. The Dragonfly is, perhaps, the most ergonomic and truly useable small locking folder I've ever used.

You and I are very much on the same page "Brock" because I fell deeply in love with the JD Smith model all the way back to the late 90s when I got my first two of them. It is also one of the better Spyderedged models too because it's one SE model that I can control the direction of the cut extremely well. I'm sort of surprised that the JD Smith model didn't become one of their permanent perpetual models like the POLICE or MILITARY>>> because the grip is truly that good on the JD Smith.

We haven't seen the end of the JD Smith model I'm sure of it. It will be back someday and hopefully with one of the supersteels ;) The JD Smith model is truly one of the top 10 best Spyders ever IMO.

And you can't say enough about the C-36 Military model. I got a feeling it's here to stay for the long haul.

I agree about the JD Smith.
It does seem to fly under the radar for newer fans of Spyderco, but it seems everytime I post mine or see one posted, there are always many people interested in finding out more about it.
It's a beautiful knife, and a pleasure to use just as much as it is to behold.

For me it's the Para 2, Delica, Endura, Caly 3.5 and the Native 5 LW. I am invariably carrying one of these, usually the Delica.
