ESEE .22 Survival Rifle Death Chat

Most of the guys at Chilhowee Sportsmans Club use a 410 O/U that costs more than my car, and wear it out. I use a 12ga, myself.

They make other calibers is the O/U, my personal fav is a 22mag/20ga Baizikal (sp?). That's the one I'm buying after the new year.

For hunting small game of any sort, I would prefer a shotgun, 20 or 12ga. I have a 308, 12ga, 223, 22lr, and various others, but I do most of my hunting with a 12ga. We don't get alot of shots here on WT deer over 100yds, so a shotgun is fine with me.

In a tough spot, give me my Mossberg 500.

I don't think a Ruger 10-22 can be beat for a light weight survival rifle. With a synthetic barrel, synthetic stock, and a nice light trigger. Sub 3 lb gun. Can you really beat it?

I can beat it with my ruger mkIII hunter with carbon wrapped barrel and advance armament suppressor.

I love AK and its gun laws!

AL has just as good of gun laws I assume. The suppressor is an NFA regulated piece, so as long as their is no conflicting state law that keeps you from having it, it's simply a matter of getting the tax stamp from the ATF and making the proper transfer.

The .22 suppressor only cost $250. My YHM .223 suppressor was approx $400 and my AA .45 suppressor was about $500. It is the tax stamp $200/piece that makes the price go up. The .45 suppressor is stupid quiet on my tc pro hunter. The loudest part is when the bullet strikes the target. It makes a nice "whollup" sound.

Total weight on the MKIII with suppressor is just under 2lbs loaded but is small and can be shoved into my pack easily. I also have the walther p22 but it has reliability issues.

What they need to do is make a folding stock for the Ruger 10/22 compact model. That'd be fantastic.

Hmmm...someone's been snooping in our files....

I've been trying to avoid buying a 10/22 for years, since I already have a pair of .22 rifles (besides the Marlin 60 I also have one of those "Speedmaster" thingies).

Oh well, looks like I'm going to end up with another .22 after all...

Folding Kel-Tec is cool.

cool concept, but the stocks lave a fairly long LOP to fit a mag and fit around the magwell. too long IMHO, unless you put the M4 stock kit on it, and then it's the cost of a budget AR.

i'm hardly short, but i prefer shorter buttstocks.

Always interested in what the esee gang coos up. They're take on a survival rifle chambered in .22 will conjures up images of fallout ha!

There is no way you can out group a rifle at 50 yards with your MKIII pistol :jerkit:. Not a chance. So, if I am out to survive. I want to be able to place my shots where I want them. Not just "hit the animal" but head shot that squirrel, rabbit, coon, etc... and take home the meat. So for my extra pound of carry weight, I will put in the rifle. Just my opinion.

With my 2x fixed scope and 6" barrel I am popping the heads off grouse with the mkIII at 50 yards. I imagine a cooper or other higher end .22 rifle can out shoot this pistol but the standard 10/22 does not. I like the ability to put my pistol in my buttpack. I don't think it is the best survival weapon but it sure is fun for the small game.

How long is the barrel on your MkIII? Can't be all that big if you stuff it in your butt pack (STS).
