I appreciate you asking our opinion, but I trust you guys to bring the best hardware possible at a fair price to your customers. Do what you have to do to make it happen, I need a new folder ASAP!!! Thank you/// Rp431

While we would like everything we do made in the USA, make no mistake about the fact that quality will always come before country of origin.

I couldn't have said it better myself. If the quality is up to or exceeds my (the consumer's) standards, damn right I'm gonna pay for it. With a smile.

Being a technician I use tools that are manufactured from all over. USA made tools have seemed to always be the best, but some of the over seas, depending on country, are just as good. Countries like Italy and Germany are very particular and proud of their products as is our country and you can tell the difference just using them. I'm sure if Jeff and Mike decide to choose an outside source, they will make sure that the knife is up to their spec before selling to us.

We live in a global economy. I have knives that were made in america and their quality levels suck, and I have knives from overseas that are near perfect.

I would buy any folder stamped ESEE, because I know you guys wouldn't produce a knife that wasn't a quality knife.

Jeff,
Just the fact that you are asking your end-users this question is outstanding to me. I am blown away although I shouldn't be surprised, based on the ESEE reputation.

I would most definitely buy anything with ESEE on it, regardless where it came from, because I know it will be an exceptional product that I can trust.

I voted yes simply because I can't think of much in the way of US knife manufactures that are on the same quality level as Lion Steel. I mean you have Benchmade and Spyderco, I think Kershaw is Japanese. And I don't really desire seeing an ESEE folder being a "ESEE designed Benchmade"

Buck and Gerber arn't on the same playing field as is easily evident by there Strider and Hinderer collaborations.

I really hope you guys do go with Lion Steel, Like others have said as long as it isn't made in China, Taiwan, and the like, there is no disadvantage to going with a company that has as solid of a reputation.

I really don't see why this is an issue, if you were to go through your house how many things are actually American made? It's a global economy man.

Definitely. As long as the Quality was top notch.:)

I would rather buy a US made blade. Almost all of the knives i own are made in the USA.
The knives i own that are not made in the US were bought because they had features or designs that didn't have a US made counterpart.
Call me a fool but i would pay 200 dollars more for a knife made in the USA if i thought it was just as good or better that one just like it made elsewhere. I do it all the time when it comes to tools but i pay 10 times more in some cases. I'm a mechanic by trade.
With all that being said, the most important thing to me is quality first and value second. If i don't see the quality, then i won't buy it regardless of where it's made.
likewise, i would buy any ESEE knife made anywhere as long as i see there is high quality and good value.
Oops, did i say anywhere, i meant almost anywhere in the free world.

remember that it would mostly be just USA customers caring if the knife is made in the USA, but there are a LOT of customers wordwide which dont really care where it is made as long as it is good quality. in other words:

make the knife anywhere, just get it in the shops ASAP so that it can fill this burning void i have in my heart!

...you will never see another one of our designs manufactured outside the United States. This decision will take some money out of our pockets due to smaller profit margins, but we'll live with it.

I'm sure Lionsteel can make a great product, maybe as good as or better than some of the US makers, but I'm going to have to stand my ground and not falter when it comes to supporting the men and women who may very well be my neighbors. With the economy the way it is now, I go out of my way to buy local (USA), which is the main reason I have bought Esee knives in the past, so I voted no.

I can't say that I blame Esee for the decision, because as business owners your main goal is to make money, and I understand that you have to eat as well as anyone else. I know it has to be hard on you guys to make a profit, because people today want quality, lifetime warranties on stupidity, while at the same time, they want everything cheap.

By looking at the poll, it appears that the majority of people will buy it regardless of where it is made, and I'm sure you won't miss my purchase at all. I won't boycott Esee if you choose to produce this knife offshore, I just won't purchase it.

I'll tell you what, the guys in Maniago can make some sweet-ass knives. They really got me hooked on N690-Co steel too. That stuff takes a really nice edge.

Anyway, based on the fact that Lion Steel is in the running for this folder I will swear on my grave that I will buy one. I'm not exaggerating.

No thanks

Jeff, from what I see in the "Idaho Made" thread, you have some admiration for Chris Reeve and his values. We all should. Would he make his Sebenza anywhere else, given the choice? No he wouldn't. Stick to your values man. If it's not the right time to make the folder the way you really want to make it, then don't make it.

Hmm. I had heard that Fox Knives, Italy had done both the Volpe and the Hossom fixed blades.

Sorry for the off topic:

Volpe Design: was made by G&G (Gianni and Gabriele)
I am Gianni, co-owner of LionSteel
Gabriele is a co-owner of Fox knives

Volpe production: was made by LionSteel

As a little side note...while the USA has not grown any in the industrial sector. We have grown like crazy in others such as technology... Did you also know it happens to pay well.
