ESEE Izula folder (for real this time)

No, the prototype doesn't have a pocket clip. But I'd be surprised if the production version doesn't have one . . . assuming ESEE ever releases a production version, that is.

For some it may be because it will have the ESEE warranty since it's made in the US.

Quiet, not like it is that important to me, as this is a folder, but Esee's warranty is vastly different than all those you mention.

None of those companies come close to ESEE's warranty. They are all good but ESEE is by far superior.

I wonder if this:

Note: We do not warranty our 440C Stainless Steel knives from abuse. It should be noted that 440C is not as flexible as our carbon steels. Any excessive flexing will cause the knife to break.

Means that the folder will not carry the ESEE warranty that's become a large part of its selling point.

This was much, much better.

I had interest 2 years ago. No longer interested.

Same.

Yup calc. I doubt the warranty will apply to the folder no matter the steel. Lots of ways to mess up a folder. And yes, the original proto appealed to me much more. And yup, with all the new cool stuff on the horizon with ZT, Kershaw, Cold Steel, and even CRKT, and maybe others that I hopefully never find out about, I have already exceeded my knife budget for the year. Oh, and it would have to be made for me to buy. That saying just never gets old.

*Sigh*

Yes, the finished version will have a pocket clip. When the proto was unveiled, Jeff Randall stated that the VERY EARLIEST it would be released would be Shot Show 2015. It isn't, no surprise there.

The renderings of the "earlier version" were NOT PRODUCED BY ESEE. IIRC, it was a fan that drew them up. That version never existed past that stage. That version would not work anyway, because the geometry of the lock would be terrible. Nobody should have ever actually expected anything like that to actually exist.

It's certainly no surprise to me. Jeff didn't happen to mention when the VERY LATEST it would be released would be, did he? The Izula folder is looking more and more like the Busse Combat folder all the time.

You know, part of the Izula's awesomeness (for me) is that it IS an excellent little EDC fixed blade, that is also great at other things. You could use it to open your mail, and then step out back into the woods and build a shelter for the night. Building a folding version, and especially of such a pedestrian steel just seems like such a step in the wrong direction to me. I mean, when someone has a "HAY GUYS WHAT EDC FB SHOULD I GET!" thread, the Izula gets suggested like, fifteen times on the very first page. How many people will jump to suggest the Izula folding version when someone asks what they should get if they want a great EDC folding knife? That nod is going to go to guys like Kershaw, Spyderco, and Benchmade, in my opinion.

And I think that ESEE probably realizes that, which is why it's taking so long to bring it to market. They WILL sell plenty of these to ESEE fans, but honestly, this thing looks like nothing special, where for multiple reasons, the Izula fixed blade IS special.

Just my two bits, anyway.

I was at the ESEE booth yesterday. Talked with them for a bit. I didn't ask about the folder but it wasn't on display. Might go back tomorrow and ask.
Sorry

I think the folder would be something special if they did it right, but a titanium framelock that looks nothing like the fixed isn't doing it right imo. Sure there would be others similar but I know that if there was something like the rendering above done, I would be on it like fleas on a dog's behind.

Thanks. The fact that the folder wasn't on display confirms what most of us already suspected. But if you do go back to the ESEE booth tomorrow, please let us know if you learn anything interesting.

Of course they didn't mention a latest date. I don't know what the lack of folder at Shot means, and there is very little mention of it off of bladeforums.

No matter to me anyway. There isnt much to love about the prototype and it is far too small. My 2.5 year old isnt quite ready for a knife, and ill be damned if I'll be carrying anything that tiny.

Yeah, I suppose you're right - even regardless of the stainless aspect, they probably won't warranty a folder like that.

It was put up on the official ESEE site, though. I distinctly remember it being there.

All this talk of how great of warranty they have...just remember when you are 20 miles back in the forest with a broken blade a great warranty does nothing.

If you have never used an ESEE blade, you would know that under normal use, you should never need that warranty. Every single one I own has yet to fail, and the whole line up are built like tanks. The warranty is just a fail safe.

There's a lot to love AFAIC. Deep belly, what appears to be a FFG, full Ti scales and a 3" blade that would equate to an overall length of roughly 7". If I'm right about those specs, the Izula folder prototype is the same length as an XM-18 3.0". That might make it too tiny for you, but it's just right for me. And when your 2.5 year old gets a little older, I'm sure she'd be tickled pink with it. ;)

Now all ESEE has to do is make the darn thing!

haha good way to put it!

Nothing personal about that statement, just facts.

Their statement was factual - if a knife breaks out in the woods, you're without a knife when you need one and the warranty doesn't matter. So there's no need to have such a snide reaction to someone saying so.

Yep, it was. There was also a disclaimer saying that it would not actually be the final product, and it was just a rough concept to put a visual on the idea of an Izula folder.

Yes, that prototype photo was on the Esee website for years.

Again, not a prototype. It never existed.

Rendering. Computer drawing. Whatever.
