It's tough to capture the sheer size of this knife in photos. It's about 9" open and weighs 7.7 ounces!

I hope to see many more posts appearing in this thread in the future.

This particular venture had its genesis on the 4th of July 2014.

It will shortly be winging its way across the Atlantic, certain parts of it for the second time thus returning home. It is very special to me for more than one reason.

It has been dubbed by its maker - Mini Soddie.

- 1095 carbon steel
- 3.25 inches closed length
- brass furniture
- and unless I'm mistaken a world first with its covers too

As it hasn't left yet, Evan kindly allowed me to use his pictures.

Evan was great to work with, I'm sure his business will grow and prosper.

Thanks my friend.

Paul

Well done!

That is one awesome knife. What a great job you did, Evan. Phil, good luck with that one in your pocket. Does it fit your pocket slip? Ha ha.

Congrats on a big, beautiful knife, Phil!!:thumbup: What's the closed length?
I was astounded by the first photo you showed of the "unfinished" stag, but I like the final version even better. The stag covers are unbelievable!:eek:
Evan once again did masterful work!:cool:

Here is a quick update on some of the knives I am bringing to blade this year. 5 of the 6 single bladed knives I'll have there. The other 7 or 8 will be multibladed knives. Getting down to the wire!!

I hope to have these done tomorrow, so I can start working on jigging and dyeing bone for the multis!

Awesome looking patterns, Evan. Great stuff coming out of your shop!

Lookin' good Evan! All of 'em look great; I'd be hard pressed to pick a favorite out of those five. Please post us a photo of the finished knives. :eagerness:

I got to meet Evan at the Blade show and check out his knives first hand. The workmanship is top notch and Evan seemed right at home among the elite makers at the show.

That giant pruner.......Wow what a nice piece, even better in person!

And the easy open teardrop without a nail nick....very cool!

Wait till you guys get to see his multi blade beauty!:thumbup:

I have to concur, Mark. Evan's knives were fantastic to see in person. You're right, that easy opener was sweet!

It's too bad, though, that I didn't get to meet you or some of the others that were attending. Perhaps next year we should have a traditionals mini-meetup ;)

Very nice job! BTW, the "butt plate" is called a "seal cap". A lot of the old knives of this type that were hafted with stag appear to be built or shaped around the stag pieces rather than building the knife and finding stag that will work. You did a good job recreating the genre.

Thank you for all the nice comments, everyone! This is really a huge knife, and a very tricky build. The butt plate was interesting, and hafting the stag to taper to the thinness of the bolsters was a pain. Unfortunately, I had to haft a lot of the popcorn, but I am happy with how the dye job came out.

Well, enough talk. Here she is.
