Estate collection

If it’s 1/4 inch thick stock I think it must be a 23. It should be stamped on the back of the sheath.

A model 23 with stag is $485 plus $25 shipping plus about 6 years. Nice score!

It’s carbon steel. Be careful how you store it. It’s not like aBuck knife.
Randall does 440b too....could be that couldnt it?

They do use 440 b. But If it was stainless it would have a large S stamp next to the Randall Knives stamp.

It came in this zippered case. Real nice. Case has a vintage look to it. Knife is 1/4 thick at the spine. 20190901_121400.jpg 20190901_121421.jpg 20190901_121432.jpg 20190901_121450.jpg

The pouch is nice to have. Too bad the sheath is missing. But you have that covered.

1/4” thick if it’s 4.5” long it’s a model 23 for sure.

Are you gonna use it?

I have handled and only seen one Randall a guy I buy and trade with at the flea market had it was nicely made I wish I had took pictures of it

good info, thank you Sir. didnt know that.

so 01 it is then......its a beauty Mak.

Dating is not easy. It has the same washer stack as mine. So it is not vintage. Might as well have been made yesterday. Could be as old as middle 80’s.

Is the guard nickel silver? Or brass?

You should hold onto it, but it would be easy to sell. IMHO.

I always check local estate sales for knives, and have never found much of interest. That is an amazing collection you scored!!

Randall's Stag always seems perfectly polished to where it meets the hilt.. Even Buck sometimes looks like it was trimmed with a belt sander to fit correctly. I seen the Randall collectors club meet at the Gator Show and was amazed at the quality of the factory shieth's that were displayed with the knives. Unused sharpening stones correct for early knives were priced like gold bars lol!

From what I’ve heard Randall is very specific on what stag they will use. Only the right sized pieces are bought. There is no making a piece fit.

Supposedly there are three barrels of stag small medium and large.

The Randall stag knives I have handled all looked great felt great and most importantly indexed correctly. They also have very dense centers with almost no pith.

I went over there yesterday..great forum! I looked over a few price lists from the 50's and 60's and a few years of the newsletters gave me a new appreciation for Randall's in general and fighters in particular. Living in Florida I've asked at most yard sales for any and STILL think one day someone will bring out a big box of old dusty Randall's for me to buy..

Bucksway, Put $50 down on one and in only 6 years you can buy it for ~$100 less than its worth at that time.

Finding one at a yard sale for a bargain is not likely.

Yeah, there is a waiting list 5-6 years out to buy new. Or pay much more from dealers that seem to have a way in. I've seen them for sale at gun shows and not for cheap. They hold value like no other. No way I would sell this knife. Plus it's a great looking knife!
