Estwing made a double bit axe and a tomahawk!

Plasmio,
I work in sales at Estwing. We use a 1055 top grade steel on all our tools. These axes are forged out of one piece of steel and yet are really light! They are not quite yet available at a retail level, but we are working hard at getting them out soon. You can also go to Estwing's facebook page since I try and update that as things become available. I can't WAIT to get these out in the market place. You will not be disappointed..
I don't expect to be disappointed either. I know Estwing's products are always good.
Also that's a great steel for tools.

thanks ron_m80. thats a simple explanation that makes a lot of sense.

I called Estwing and got the answeres to my other questions. I figured I would share.

The black w/ leather grips will be $57.10
The all black will be $53.10.
The blue one will be avail through Home Depot and the price is not known yet but it will prob be the most affordable.

They are hoping all will be avail for sale w/ in the month of October!!

Edit: BTW that info is for the tomahawk. sorry i forgot to ask about the double bit axe.

Those seem like reasonable prices to me. I'll take it.

Are those eagle head logos decals (I hope)? They look more like they should be on a football helmet than an axe...But I agree that it's about time. I wrote Estwing over a year ago suggesting they make a tactical 'hawk and received the reply at there weren't any plans at the time to produce such a thing but that the idea would be passed along. Glad to see that that was more than a courtesy response. :D I'd have done it differently if it were up to me, but it still looks like a usable USA-made all-steel take on a Vietnam 'hawk for not too much money.

Id like to see the tomahawk with a hammer on the back instead of the spike. if they had that i think that leather handle would be calling to me... i think i might take down the paint on it too and go for just straight metal on leather... super cool though i use an estwing hatchet that was my dads and it has to be better than 30-40 years old and is still rock solid.

So you mean you want to see a return of the leather handled Rigger's Axe then? :D I use one of the Rigger's Axes around the homestead all the time for cutting fence pegs, doing repairs, and the like.

I don't mind the look of the double bit but don't care as much for the 'hawk--namely because it seems to be designed more as a cqc model rather than a breaching tool. And I think the markings are a bit...loud. :p Nice to see the product line expansion, though, and I hope we'll see more soon.

Actually I did know this as I've been saving up to buy them. I'm not there yet, but I should be in a few months.

Ahh, the life of a broke contractor.

I was hoping that Eswing would have taken a cue from the RMJ style modification done to one of their hammer poll/hatchets. Just seemed like an obvious path, just make a call to RMJ, work out some deal to use the head shape, and there ya go.
I think sales of an RMJ look-alike would have been over the top. Guys that haven't ever seen an RMJ would be buying these from hardware stores just on sight. Maybe I'm just biased, but the RMJ modded Eswing looked better, and more functional.

I like the look of the double bit. I'm not sold on the tomahawk because of the void in the blade.

+ Eleventy Billion

I totally forgot about that mod. But I am still psyched about these.
I really like the look of the Double Bit, but the Tomahawk wierds me out with that void.
Something like a "Fighting Rigbuilders Hatchet/Axe" (like Fourty Two Blades mentioned) would be both functional and wickedly sweet.

Man... Going to have to go look up that RMJ stile Mod that you mentioned.
I gots all kinds of projects going, but there is always room for one more.

Edited to add: Now I have to go find some of my old rigbuilders hatchets that I have in a crate somewhere and turn at least one of those guys into an RMJ look alike.
Where is a variable speed grinder when you need it?

Well I've been resisting joining Facebook -- but, Alas.. I may just have to capitulate in favor of these new Estwings..

Well I would like to get one of each in blue to fit in with the rest of the bunch. Of coarse after you use them a lot the handle get kinda green from sweat and dirt.

Not a fan of those designs, sorry to say. Nice to see some innovations in the industry but just are not there aesthetically. The double bit is similar to the Condor double bit thrower, and the hatchet is like the Vietnam hawk.

I still think Estwing should just make this....or is it just too bad a$$?

Most guys, but not necessarily those here on BF, put flash before function. Since Estwing wants to generate sales they need to appeal to guys who want flash. I think they've succeeded with these. And if sales of bling axes keeps an American tool maker alive and well then I'm all for it.

+1 on that. I try to buy American products, when possible. Maybe these will compete with SOG's, Cold Steel, and Condor tomahawk sales. And maybe, these tomahawks will inspire some guys to get other American made tomahawks?

My wife would like to have a serious discussion with you relating to my weakness for blue handled tools...LOL.
According to her me buying the Gio/Paleo pick was the straw that broke the camel's back.

I'll be watching this closely.

Going to have to have one of those blue doublebit axes !! Axgirl please keep us imformed of when the go to the stores
I ave beat the crap out of an old 22 oz framing hammer for 20 plus years and it is still going strong , Plumbers tend to be rough on hammers
