Estwing made a double bit axe and a tomahawk!

Actually I had a norland nessmuk style doublebit hatchet I liked quite well . After looking around the net I found out a lot of people liked them more than I did :D I sold it and regretted it ever since. I have beat the crap out of a estwing hammer and it is still going after 20 some years . The double bit axe should balance real close to my framing hammer one side can be sharpen razor sharp while leaving a little more bevel on the otherside

That's a "bit" (heehee) more like it! :D

Groan.

Wish I'd thought of it.

Can't wait to see what the street price is on these. Also wouldn't mind seeing what the sheaths look like.

Got an email about the hawks/axe.

We are hoping the new tomahawks will be out within a couple weeks. They
will come with a sheath but we do not have a picture of them yet. The
estwing logo is molded and painted, but the eagle is a sticker.

Regards,

Estwing Mfg. Co

Thank freaking GAWD the eagle is a sticker. Thanks for emailing 'em!

Santa gave me a Black Eagle double bit with vinyl handle today. Stout piece of steel. I'm surprised though that the edges are butter-knife unfinished. I can sharpen an axe but I'm just surprised that Estwing would ship it that way.

I think a Naugahyde sheath would be the cats meow. I have heard that Nauga's are endangered though.

yeah mine came dull as well i wonder if its just a buildup of the black coating in the edge making it seem dull? need to hit the edge with a file and remove some of that!

Some actual pic's would be appreciated, the real thing doesn't always match the pretty stock pic's. Thanks

My dad got me one of the double bit with the leather washer handle. It was not too dull. but the sheath did not fit:mad: I thought about doing a little regrind on mine. One side I want to thin the shoulders down a little and the other side I just want to square the bevels up. Did a little chopping already and I like how it performs.

There was a thread not long ago about the new sheaths not fitting. unfortunately I can't find right now. In it though, it was a problem known to Estwing and they were replacing them. Contact Estwing and I think you'll get a new one.

There was a lady posting here that worked for Estwing...I remember the thread about the sheaths.

Interesting that these are supposed to be the new cats meow, yet already 2 came dull, and at least, if not 2 now, the sheath didn't fit. It is the holidays so I will let it go at that.

The dullness thing is pretty common with Estwing in general. The sheath thing was a manufacturing mistake that they've since fixed but they obviously can't track down every faulty one after it's released to the market. Even if you don't care for Estwing, though, you have to admit that they're a better choice than a lot of the inexpensive/cheap low-end tactical 'hawks flooding the market. :p
