Estwing made a double bit axe and a tomahawk!

Oh I get where you're coming from and you're not wrong! Just pointing out that they at least have their place and they're reasonably well put together for their pricepoint. I'd change a few things about 'em, myself. :)

I picked up an Black Eagle double bit (stacked leather) from Home Depot. It arrived a week ago. I haven't had time to play with it yet. It still has he sheath zip tied to the head. looking at the sheath, one can see that it will NOT fit over the head. Pics to follow.

EDIT: P.S. I just sent Estwing an email about the sheath problem. I'll let you know when & how they reply to it as a follow up.

At first I didn't think that mine fit but it does you just have to play with it a bit to figure out how to get it to fit.

Here's my Estwing Black Eagle Double Bit, before I unpacked it.

I had read the previous post that said some of the sheaths were too small. It was apparent to me that I had got one of the small sheaths. Rivets on the left side are completely covered...No way was this going to fit.

More rivets covered by the head.

Well I unpacked it, removed the protective coatings on the bits and tried out the sheath...It FIT NICELY. The snaps on the sheath are pretty hardy. There's a tag inside the sheath "Sheath Made In China". Sorry, I can be a dumb$ss some times.:o

A leather sheath would have been really nice, but this one will work. There is a web belt loop on the back side of the sheath. I'll have to eat crow and apologize to Estwing for my email.

The bits on mine are fairly sharp. Not hair popping, but they'll work for now. I haven't had time to play with her yet. I'll see how the bits hold up when I get a chance to play with her.

I picked up two of the tomahawks, one leather handled the other blue rubber. Both came as sharp (or ass dull as my previous 3 estwing axes.) A few minutes with my bastard file evened out the bevels and gave them a working edge. It's a better chopper than I had anticipated, and so far it's been fun tool to beat on. I know the tacticool haters frown on it but I like it. Just my .02.

I have the all black hawk, It seems well made and have not damaged or dulled point yet, I was quite un happy with the overall finish. I have a 30yr old frame hammer that does not have a single flaw in it also hatchets and 26" axe, several drywall hammers. But the hawk has several spots in finish that look like air holes, and is real rough finished, I just expected better quality fro Estwing its no better finished than American Tomahawk that's made in Taiwan for 1/2 the price, Sad if you ask me

Hi jon308, the defects you see are in the outer coating/paint job only? The underlying steel is not flawed?

Say Heah Guys, Yeah I have three different hatchet/axe Estwing's and tiday I just got my Estwing Double Bit Hatchet I guess I can consider y self lucky, Mine came out spot on, beautiful. Yeah I also have a 2Hawks Double Bit Hatchet there is a significant weight difference between the two, My 2Hawks Double Bit Hatchet is a piece of art, Yet it's like a Lightweight that punches like a Heavyweight and is a pleasure to carry on person, Don't get me wrong, sometime weight helps alot in certain situations, and besides, my 2Hawks Double Bit Hatchet is too personal to share with others that's one reason I got the Estwing Double Bit Hatchet, because I know it will hold up in a hard use situation, it's all one piece, Also I find the sheath satisfactory, Yeah for the price at H D and the fact you can compare and pick the best out of the litter, I think I got myself a good one, , ,

They look like silly toys to me, like Estwing polled teenage wannabee hipsters.

The "black eagle" is a blatant rip-off of the Black Raven Kelly products for pure marketing purposes. If all it takes to sell an axe to someone is to slap stolen ideas on it that is sad isn't it?

The other thing that is silly is the nationalistic theme, like they are marketing to extreme nationalists, another sort of sucker. "For sportsmen AND military professionals" LOL, they have certainly spent money on how to market shit to stupid people. If there ever was a line in an ad to sucker in the hipster and wannabee that would be it.

I much prefer an honest tool that is marketed as a tool, and not one that is marketed to hobbyists, wannabees and hipsters with stolen history and extreme ideologies.

I have always had the greatest respect for Estwing tools themselves, I always saw them on construction sites and in my hand doing what they needed to do, but this makes the company look desperate and unprofessional. I would be embarrassed to walk around with these things in my hand.

All I know about Estwing is that blue rubber handle immediately takes me back to my youth "rock hounding" all over NY, NJ, CT, MA VT and NH with my family. Herkimer (diamonds) NY to Ruggles mine in NH.
Those were the rock hammers and chisels we used.
Never gave their axes and hatches much thought.

I use the heck out of their long-handled rock pick. It's a particularly good chipping tool for ice and prying frozen objects in winter.
