Looking around, I see that I have squat in terms of camping gear anymore.... Finances permitting, I'm debating on leaving the bulky car camping tent behind and picking up one of the inexpensive Eagle Nest Outdoor hammocks from Gander Mt. and a cheap tarp from the farm supply store and seeing how big of an ass I can make of myself setting up new gear for the second time up on Becker Mountain in the dark. Worse comes to worst, I'll just stake the tarp down with a stick propping up one side and sleep under it on the ground.

There's a place in Nashville that can outfit you for hammocking.

Im doing the hammock thing too so you can hang by me if you want to Jerry.

And lately I've Been checking out the hammock forums and man those guys are serious about hanging. Very cool ideas on that forum.

I dont know if Id suggest sleeping on the ground up there in the spring. Lots of copperheads about, since Psyop shoots at them all and misses them, they stay pretty pissed off.

I have a extra hammock that came from the place Murph was talking about, your welcome to it Jerry, save you some money, Well, it will free up money for more beer anyway.

Can't wait till I get to see someone sleeping in a hammock. I never even tried one but I know my butt would hang too low!

Thanks! I might take you up on the offer there. It might help to use one before I buy anything.

People are gonna start to get uneasy if you stand around and watch them sleep.... Just sayin'

Yeah... If anyone has an extra hammock, please bring it.

I'm hoping to bring something edgy and pointy along that someone likes and work out a trade. I'm getting too old and cranky to sleep on the ground, and being from WI, I'm not used to waking up next to things that can kill you... well except for some of my ex-girlfriends, but that's different :D

I have a hammock around here somewhere, i think.... only used for about a minute... I think i paid 5 bucks for it or so... Most uncomfortable sleeping experience ever, and im not a big dude... I ended up sleeping on the ground.. But hell if you wanna trade something sharp for it im all in LMAO :D No seriously though its junk...I only kept it for the extra cordage.... It almost went in the fire.

We ain't talkin' bout no $5 hammocks here :D

Vik lent me one at the last Gathering that was surprisingly comfy... and I'm somewhere in the neighborhood of 6'3" 250#.

Vik still has that hammock - and maybe even a brand new one still in the plastic that might be coming along as trade goods....
should I also make up another set of tree straps and bring the 11x14 hex tarp?

By all means good sir, please do! Not sure exactly what I'll be bringing along to trade/sell but there'll be at least a couple Growls in CPM-154 and a bushcrafty-type thing in O1... maybe even a few unfinished, but ground and HT'ed blades I never seem to get around to finishing/putting handles on...

sure - first you chug a gallon of milk, then the quart of maple syrup.
winner will be rated on volume, consistency, and distance of chunder.

I know I can give out an impressive amount of volume, but I have no idea about distance. Never really remember the night before to know about distance, but I've seen the aftermath...

You'd be surprised on how nice these guys are. My first time hanging up on Becker Mountain Vik helped me out IMMENSELY. He even taught me how to hang the hammock and get it comfortable. Which I must say he did a hell of a lot better than I did when I went out on my own but it still worked.

What place is that? Not that I'll be getting out to Nashville TOO often but I might!

Yeah I signed up for there, they are pretty overboard, although I must also say they have some good ideas.

You'd be surprised what Psyop is comfortable with.

Btw, I will not be able to make it. When this is happening I'll be somewhere between North Dakota, South Dakota, Nebraska, Wyoming, and Montana.

should I bring a quart of maple syrup, too?

Funny you mention that! I discussed this topic (trading knives for gear) with my dear wife earlier tonight, and she agreed it's worth pursuing... but she has insisted that she will not let me come home without real maple syrup.

So yeah... maple syrup. That will make a huge difference in whether I sleep comfortably in the marital bed or cold and lonely in the yard when I come home...

There's a chugging contest?

It's a crime against everything holy to disregard, defile and waste maple syrup by chugging it :grumpy: :thumbdn:

As for chugging beers or booze... I'll leave that to the younger participants. Been there, done that, don't care to do it ever again ;) I'm more of a gentlemanly sipper...
