Eureka, Talon, 92 Photo Gallery

It's under the Production Schedule tab.

I'm hoping for a general run of Talons with Spear Blade and Barehead. The pending SFO are all Wharncliffes, it appears.

Got it. Saw the second entry, but not the one above it. DLT Trading is a sponsor here, unless I'm mistaken.

I'm really hoping for a run of spears as well. I don't think I'd jump on a single blade wharncliffe. I just don't find enough use for that particular blade to have it fly solo.

Me too, seems odd they would run the posted SFO's only. You would think if there was going to be a regular run they would of put that on the production schedule.

Edit: Mike posted in the "GEC" thread SFO only.. no regular run.

I hope they run some spear blades again in the future. The first run with steel bolsters and liners and a coping secondary was one of the finest and most interesting knives GEC has ever made.

I agree with you Justin

When I heard some news that they didn't know if they'd be running a regular "jack" run I had to pick this one up no matter what recently.
The talon is nice but the eureka jack with wrap around spring/coping blade is what really hits home for me.

Love that Antique Green Bone Tim:thumbup:

I picked up this Ebony about two weeks ago. I love the lines on the Eureka:cool:

I got into traditionals and GEC just last year. I've had my eye on an all steel Eureka the whole time. I hope they make them following the SFO's of Talons. I agree the wrap around spring is a great touch. Taps talk doesn't work well for me. I've only seen two on the exchange so far and I'm too slow. Someone feel free to PM me where else they find these. These all steel Tideoutes really hit the spot. Smooth white, ebony, antique green, all great covers with steel. Great pics in this thread.

I would love to see GEC make some more bareheaded Eureka Jacks or Talons. Pattern just looks best like that to me.

Bareheaded Talons are on the production schedule.

From DLT:

"The DLT SFO will feature a single blade wharncliffe pattern in the top of the line Northfield UN-X-LD brand. This Talon pattern will feature a two line/groove deluxe bolster and will launch the oak leaf shield. The oak leaf shield is a very historic shield and will proudly grace our first SFO. Choose from blue camel bone, red wine jigged bone, snakewood or stag covers."

Appears to have steel pins from the mock image.

This SFO looks great, any idea when it will be available?

I agree, and the wraparound spring is a touch of real quality. These are beautiful and tough knives and the Eureka has an ideal blade choice, in my book at least.

I use the Antique Greenbone example, an ideal garden-knife. The Ivory Bone one I keep unused, for a rainy day....;)

I would very much like a Spear Talon but not been able to locate one yet, so I was a bit disappointed that the SFO run will only be Wharncliffes (so far, GEC might decide to add a run, I'm certain it would be highly popular as this is an unusual and rare pattern) I had a Talon Green Micarta Wharncliffe and although very well made, I couldn't get on with it so it got sold to a fellow Euro knife enthusiast. I've decided I only really like Wharncliffes when they are with a multi-blade knife, I don't find them that useful or appealing as singles. I have a Viper that sees no use because of this.

Thanks, Will

I think fairly soon... GEC is wrapping up the #98's now, and then they will finish up the #18/Beagle run. I heard they are making quantity of 3000 #15 so I assume they will want to knock out the talon so they can move on to the extra large #14 and #15 runs. Who knows what they will do, I talked with DLT a couple days ago and I asked eta, but unfortunately I don't recall exactly what he said lol. I think it was 6 weeks or something like that. I might be off, GEC might bump it... I don't know for sure.. so take that for what it's worth.

Thanks cbr1000 and Tim, I hope I'll succeed in catching one of these. The bare head with swedged blade combination is fascinating.

The smooth bone is aging nicely. If I get brave enough I may ask one of our members to rehandle it in honest to goodness ivory but this thing has a seamless backspring and great snap and I am terrified it would not come back looking this great.

Frankly, I wouldn't have it re-done in Ivory, it would not be so durable for one. It looks fantastic as it is, and you're correct, GEC did an impressive job on the backsprings/lines/wraparound spring, very smooth to the touch and really tight! Re-assembling that to house new handle scales would be tricky.... I must say, they also did a really astonishing job on the backsprings of the 38 Whittler and 82 Dixie and these include brass but they're smooth to the touch.

Nice white bone Eurekas Will and Justin. I'll be keeping an eye out for one of those:cool::thumbup:

My 82 was very well assembled as well.

Probably the best of this pattern was the JBF Champlin run in Rosewood and Stag. I foolishly sold my stag version (I really wanted a rosewood version, but put in my reservation a few days to late). The nail nick is more useful but that long matchstrike pull was just about perfect.

I think most of those are sitting in safes these days but one day I will own one in rosewood.

Just had to rub it in huh. :D

If you ever need to dispose of it, I might have a few ideas.

I love the patina on it as well...it looks even better when the blade, bolsters, and springs have a bit of age on them.

I think it's pretty interesting that right after the rumor mill says that GEC is cutting back on their SFO's, we see another run of them. Personally, I wish they were doing them with end caps. What I wouldn't do for a Eureka Jack with a long pull and Snakewood covers!

Here's my small group.
