Ever bought a knife for wrong reasons?

Oh yeaaa, I'm a girl, but I love knives. Some guys do not understand this and perceive everything under stereotypical thinking, such as that girls should not go hiking and use knives, much less have a whole collection.
Girls have as much for knives as guys do. I know quite a few who carry them and hike/fish/hunt. I am gifting a Dozier K2 to a girl who has been predator hunting.

I only need one….more🤣

My girlfriend's sister is totally into knives and is slowly amassing a collection. I've sent a number of knives her way and I know that if I ever meet an untimely end that my knife collection will find a good home with her. That's great peace of mind when you've collected a couple hundred knives to know that they will be cherished; instead of them being a burden to those closest to you or ending up in a pawn shop after the estate gets ripped off. She's the person most passionate about knives that I personally know, beyond a few people who work at knife retailers (some of whom might just be passionate about me helping to put their kids through college).

I've never bought a knife for the wrong reason, even if that reason was: it's shiny and I want it now. It's a valid reason! I've bought some big stupid fun knives, because I think it's important to own at least 1-2 big stupid fun knives (like the Ka-Bar BK2 or the Kizer Sheepdog XL). Most of my purchases are for knives I've researched before purchasing. They're to fill a facet in my collection not yet represented (type, brand, designer, steel, design, or ergonomics) or just one on The LIst for a variety of reasons. There have been a few times when my reason for buying a knife was disappointed with the results though. TOPS makes some nice blades, but the ergonomics of their handles is so off-putting to me that I'll never carry them. I'm sure they fit someone's hands though or they wouldn't be made that way, but they sure don't fit mine.

Several, but the three that come to mind first are:

-Cold Steel Gunsite Folder: HUGE folder that never opened quickly. I bought it because a few other guys on my department had them. One of the most useless knives I've ever owned.
-Lionsteel SR1: I was going through my "chunky knife" phase and this one looked like a good choice. But, for me, it had the ergos of a 2X4, kept jumping out of my pocket (tiny pocket clip and I'm fluffy) and couldn't ever get it to open right.
-CRKT M4-02: My first assisted opener. I bought it because it looked good. The knife was fine, but the "stag" handles broke within days of purchase, the pocket clip carried the knife weird in my pocket and the blade steel was HORRIBLE - I'd look at it and it would get dull. CRKT replaced it, but it got traded off.

I usually buy to try something out, and even if I’m not overly impressed, it was still bought for the right reason.
