Ever bought a knife for wrong reasons?

Only one that I don't really like and don't use - a Maserin Bundeswehr. Blade fine for what it is, sheath is effective and "interesting" handle is absolute garbage. My only regret in buying many knives, and purchased purely from an aesthetics perspective and curiosity.

I got surprised by a girl that was happy to see my Recon1 knife since she carries a knife too, also Cold Steel.

She pulled out Cold Steel Swift, and soon said that she's huge fan of Taylor Swift so she had to have her knife...

I just stayed silent and eventually only said "Yeah, she's a good singer, and this is a good knife"...

Anyone has similar story?
I just dropped $500 CAD on a BRK Bravo 1.25 in Cru Wear because "I needed a high end work knife to cap off my collection."

Buddy, I'm a plumber. That knife is NEVER touching wet shit, AND I KNOW THAT! I knew it even as I bought it. So I bought a work knife specifically for work that I know I will never use for work... and I also bought 7 copies of the SRK-C because "I need a backup."

Thanks . . .that was a good story.

But to address the point of the OP in a larger sense: A man (or woman) shouldn't really need any reason to want to buy yet another knife . . . .right?

A similar story, but not right on it:

Back in the mid 1990s, we (the extended family) were "shopping" (wandering aimlessly) through a large mall at the insistance of the women we all love. I found a dedicated knife shop and began to do some serious gawking and fondeling. One item that caught my eye was the new Spiderco multitool, their :Spiderwrench" I think it was called. I found it to be overly complex and missed the mark in excitation. I decided that that I did not want to buy one.

Gues what I got for Christmas.

My most recent purchase was just because I found a long discontinued model that i always wanted (and never bought when available) for sale 3 years ago that was not marked sold. I pm’ed and well holy S it was still available! Bought it and cant wait to get it. I always regretted not buying when they were available. Hasnt even arrived yet.

I owned a stockman knife back in the 80's that I loved, and remember it had an anvil on the shield. I lost it when I was young (not before I cut myself pretty good with it) 😂
Years later I was wondering if I could find one like it, and searching on the internet for shields with an anvil, and found Buck. I thought, that's it! And bought a 373 (chinese)
I liked that knife ok, but later learned that the knife I owned in the 80's was an anvil brand by colonial, so I bought the Buck for the wrong reason. I must say, I have enjoyed my Buck knives better than my Colonial knives I have picked up since then.

I bought a knife for a reason compounded from two different strains on this thread:
I have a Surly bike, so I drank some Surly beer. Then I drank some more. Then I went surfing on the Web, where I bought an SRK. Now I’m not just surly, I’m furious.

You never stated you bought the Bravo for wet work, so it is still a ‘work knife’, and all knives need back-ups🤣

Needing a reason: I want it.
Reason for needing: I want it.

I’m fine if people want to shop while drinking…it’s the deciding to use knives while drinking is what makes me nervous.

I’m not sure if I’ve slowed down…but I am a lot more choosy now.

And yes, I’ve bought knives for the wrong reason. Lol

I bought all my knives for some reason and I have kept them all. I go back to them all for the reasons I bought them over the years. No one understands me except other knife enthusiasts
