Ever heard of GSM Outdoors? They just bought Cold steel.

Pot calling the kettle black?

Your interpretation of my post is ridiculous. Attempt to censor others? Really? Calm down! I certainly didn't suggest anyone should stop posting; I merely stated my opinion, like everyone else here is doing. I'm sorry it doesn't agree with yours. And because it doesn't, you call it irrelevant. I'm sorry, but you have not experienced a situation "exactly like this." None of us have. Everyone is just expressing opinions, based on the very limited amount of factual information.

If you were on the GSM board of directors or were partners with LT, your opinion would be more valuable than others. But it's not.

First of all, you continue to be objectively incorrect on your assertions that no one knows the workings of this deal. Proof has been provided, but because you’re upset and don’t like the situation as it has developed you choose to use the “disappointed parent” routine and attempt to chastise us for our understanding. I know you don’t get it, but perhaps one day you will.

LT sold out, Sold Steel got bought and the company was gutted in the first hours of the acquisition. I don’t know how much clearer it needs to be made for you and your amazement and disappointment (LOL), but those are the facts. It’s been explained in this thread. The warranty language was changed IMMMEEEEEEDIATELY. The contact info was changed IMMMMEEEEEEDIATELY. One of our members in good standing with no reason to lie, called Sold Steel’s offices and an employee states that they had all been terminated. Lynn then put out a hostage video (blink twice if they have nukes, Lynn! LOL) in an effort to get people to not slam them or write off Sold Steel products (because the customer base is what GSM was buying).

This is a clear understanding we have. Then you come in talking about how we couldn’t possibly know the inner workings of the deal or the outcome of this. I mean...Sold Steel as we knew it was taken out back and shot as soon as the ink was dry, it’s clear to anyone without blinders on what’s going on here.

Do try to keep up.

You know, I mentioned in one of these CS Sold threads yesterday that I was going to call my dealer and order a couple of CS knives while the getting was good. I thought about it awhile and never made that call.

Turns out that lifetime warranty meant more to me than I originally thought.

The World's Strongest Sharpest Knives, but you better save that receipt! (And forget it after a year!)

There is no "clear understanding" of anything other than what a bunch of people have posted here. If you tell a story enough times, it must be true.......There are no real facts from the source, ie from Cold Steel or GSM, about whats actually going on. Nobody has as of yet really verified what the "kid on the phone" said as fact or even who he was. That doesn't mean anybody is lying, it means the facts are not known. Changing contact info doesn't mean anything other than the contact info has changed to reflect new ownership, nothing more.... It doesn't mean that everything in California has ceased to exist overnight. Nobody here really knows the circumstances under which that video was produced or the direction the company will go. Until such facts emerge, put down the pitchforks and torches and step back from the keyboard.....

In almost 40 years of using and even outright abusive testing of Cold Steel (many different products) , I have had ZERO need of warranty service .

The lack of warranty will not prevent me from buying in the future .

Reduced performance , quality , and value is my primary concern .

If the NEW CS makes great , durable , interesting stuff that is proven by consumer review ...I'll still be a fan .

You are wrong.

Gridiron (the new owner of Cold Steel), GSM (the corporate shell that Cold Steel now resides under in the Gridiron investment portfolio), Sentinel Capital (former owner of GSM and Cold Steel) and Yukon (previous funder of these sales) have all posted official notices of the bouncing ownership of Cold Steel.

The details of those acquisitions are not clear, as we have stated over and over. But the facts of ownership changes are clear. And we know the facts about what these companies do and how they operate. They proudly tell us that.

In addition, these types of ownership changes that have taken Cold Steel from an independent company run by knife people to a bit player in a portfolio of investment companies run by people with no interest in knives is certainly worthy of a conversation on this forum. We are a knife forum, and Cold Steel is certainly a major player in our industry.

Rather than demanding that we stop discussing the sale and what it means, why don't you just leave the conversation? Lots of other threads you can join.

Wrong. We know for a fact that the warranty immediately changed to one year and original owner. We know for a fact that prior to the sale, quality decisions were questionable.

As the one who called "the kid" let me offer that tomorrow, you call them and ask whatever you wish and report back. There's a strong mix of direct and circumstantial evidence, ya know, the stuff inspectors collect.

If Cold steel continues to put out good products at good prices and I'm interested in them I will continue buying them, warranty be damned. But these types of buyouts don't ever seem to go well for the company (like Gerber and Camillus, and what about Marbles? It's Marbles in name only, just like Schrade).

I doubt I will ever need the warranty for my knives, but it's nice to know it's there. Still, my 2nd 4 max scout will be here tomorrow, and my backup srks will be here tomorrow or Tuesday. I'm set if GSM starts destroying the products I think.

I don't know what is going to happen, but, I just ordered that Espada XL in S35VN that I have always admired.

EDIT- And I wish LT all the best.
That's the one I've been eyeballing! If the warranty is back it just might be game on all over again.

For that kind of scratch for a CS, I want that warranty, need it or not.

All that has been posted is rumor and innuendo, jumping to conclusions based vague assumptions, no real facts....of course ownership has changed, but do you have any real facts to offer on this change of ownership? Statements from Cold Steel or GSM for instance? When or if you have something real to offer other than guesses don't be afraid to post it ....I see that the warranty thing was a non issue, how much else is just fear mongering by children that have had their lollipops taken from them? Maybe we should get some facts before burning the place to the ground.....discuss the sale all you like but until the facts are presented by either the new owners or the previous owner you won't have a clue what any of it really means.....

I guess we really did not know that for a fact after all did we..... What else don't we know? Again jumping to conclusions.....Most of what has been posted is hearsay, ya know the sort of stuff thats inadmissible in court....no actual facts as none are available....
Its entirely possible that the QC decisions were based entirely on other circumstances that had more to do with GSM being able to buy CS rather than as direct result of the acquisition. Fact is we don't know what is going on and probably won't know the whole story for a while if ever.

I hope this wasn't aimed at me? I very much agree with your posting #403.

So the warranty did not switch to one year? Good to know.

Just pulled this off the website. I don’t see a warranty term anywhere. I suppose it could be considered a lifetime warranty if you interpret the phrase “If you are ever...”.

You're wrong again. When it was being talked about, it was a fact. The warranty page on Cold Steel's site was updated to the same one year warranty as all the other GSM brands. It was changed back today.

I'm glad it changed back and hope it stays that way but doubt it will for too long.
