I keep taking pics and looking for places to post my new Shirogorov NeOn Ultra-Lite. I've been searching for just the right smaller knife and I think I've found it. :)

Unlike the regular NeOn Lite, this one has fully open-back construction

"Just" S30V, but Shiro does a great job with that steel--it'll take and hold a really keen edge (soon)

It takes a big knot to hold a little Bear down

I know--more than a little over the top with pics. Think I like it?

What’s the model of that Bark River? Looks beautiful!

It’s a PSK with cocobolo and mosaic pins; it is a beauty. I love mosaic pins. It turned out to be smaller than I expected though. I have a couple of Gallardo fixed blades in that size that I like a lot.

Those mosaic pins are very ornate. I like them a lot as well. And the finish on that handle really makes it pop, just gorgeous. I was going to ask about the size of it in hand, looks a bit on the smaller side but looks can always be deceiving. Very beautiful pieces. Been wanting to get into edc fixed blades for a while now and have been very into Bark River's work.

It’s very small and thin. I can try to photograph it next to something if you’d like a comparison shot and I have the other knife.

If you have the time for it I'd love to see it more! And the other knife as well. No rush though, or if it's any trouble. Just curious about it because i haven't seen that model from them and it's relatively nice for the size. Thank you for your time and information!

How do you like that Southard? I have one on the way and have been excited about it for a long time.

I like it a ton. Other knives fit specific roles better, but I still find myself carrying it often. I don’t love the cutout in the scales though. While it gives access to the spydie hole, it reduces the size of the grip in that one spot enough to make serious cutting uncomfortable for me. Figured that is a good enough reason to keep an eye out for a Gayle Bradley 1 : )

Sweet! And if you don’t mind me asking, like what? What would this not be as good at? Just curious. And I have wondered about the “step” on the cutout and if you could feel it in hand. I guess I’ll have to use it and see! I actually planned on trying to make my own scales for it so we’ll see how that goes. And nice! I like the looks of the Gayle Bradley 1 as well

I was carving a pinewood derby car for the Dad race and found the grip of the Southard, particularly in the area of the lock and cutout, got uncomfortable pretty quickly. The grip and the flat grind of the tenacious worked out better for that job.

I didn’t notice the step.
