Expensive Knives - Do you use them?

I don´t own much really expensive knives. I own a Pohl Force Alpha Two which costed once 140 €. I don´t use this heavy-duty-folder. Most of knives come for around 40 - 80 €. Theese knives see all a lot of use, more or less ;)

Kind regards

I carry & use all my knives.If they don't get used/carried enough,they get sold.

I've used some expensive knives, and I've got a $15 knife that's just too pretty to mess up. ;)

Old Gerber Magnum Hunter. Picked it up for $15 on sale at a china shop.

$400 I guess. That would include my SnG

I do use my $535 Kirby Lambert Small Orion, but haven't used it much. Only to the point of using a UF Spyderco rod and strop to hone it back up. I've reprofiled my Strider and everything.

I use my 10" bladed bowie that I paid $270 for as my regular timber chopping fella. It's even got a mirror polish! :O ...which is very scratched up now. But it's an awesome chopper!

they way I live right now, there's no reason to have a collection of knives I don't use. My unnumzaan earns its keep just about every day.. I don't own many knives anymore.

I'm probably never going to be able to break that particular knife :) Just hope I don't lose it.. but I've never lost a knife yet!

I carry and use many knives that cost $1000+ don't really care if they are rare or custom, i like to use my knives, I have no safe queens.

I'm a paying college student too! So $80 is very expensive in my eyes, especially since the $30 Buck 110 was the be-all end-all for me about two years ago, and still is in some respects. I'll probably never pay for a knife over the price of maybe a Spyderco Military or ESEE-5 because I'll just feel so NAUGHTY using it, especially when I know my 10 or so inherited user-grade slipjoints from my grandfather can do the job just as well. Those or my most expensive folder as of now, the Buck Vantage Pro (which is seen as a "high-value" knife for a lot of people, which is why I purchased it). I am also a fan of the Kershaw leek, but I've only got the standard version. I don't like having two of the same knife because I hate making the other twin or triplets jealous!

That line of thought is actually how I keep myself in check, if I feel I paid enough that i wont use it i wont buy it cause like some others have said "I'm a user not a collector". But that being said my edc right now hit me at around 140 and I really want a benchmade 940 which sits around 170. I think my buying stops around the 200 range...... unless I find a Spyderco Bob Lum tanto and ill buy that as soon as the funds are available :D

Sorry to derail the train of thought to answer the OP's original question, i would say 200+ seem like to much to me except for the rare occasion

For me, a poor college student (lol), any knife greater than about $80 bucks is considered expensive. My EDCs are usually sleek folders, the Kershaw Leeks being my favorite. I have 4 of them, yet I never really use or carry my rainbow or Damascus leek. I've also got a couple of expensive balisongs too that I like to flip but it's very rare I'll ever use them for anything heavier than cutting tape. So of all my knives I probably only use about 20% of them. My girlfriend likes to give me crap about buying more knives for that reason, haha. Of course some rare production knives or customs are more art than knife but where is the cut off for you? What is the most expensive knife you have that you'll use to the point of needing resharpening?

-Tony

I dunno. I've been out of college for considerably more years than you have been alive. But I still find any knife north of ~$80 to be expensive. I frequently use the couple of knives I have which cost more than that.

The most expensive knife that I use on a daily basis is my work knife...a Strider PT that cost me $300.

The blade finish is all scratched up and I have a nick in the edge that I need to sharpen out.

It does it's job and that's all I ask for.

Burchtree Bamboo and Mayo Covert get pocket time and use almost everyday.
I've had to get the Covert sharpened up 3 times so far.

So far I have only bought for use, but now that I found that old "Western" Barlow #822 I like to think that I have moved from aesthetics to more of an ethical approach of collecting. I dun’ know, I just don’t use it much.

I use my $600, 7" hand-forged Fujuwara gyuto almost every day. I used to think Wusthofs were good kitchen knives, but once I bought the Fujiwara, I could never go back. It is, without a doubt, the finest, sharpest kitchen knife I've ever owned.

My answer is Yeap!..... I know that I can send them back for some "spa" love if they get messed up. I use my Hinderer and Striders. In fact, when I received my SMF the first thing I did was re-profiling it and put a super sharp edge. Its with me right now ;-)
Its nice to carry and use something you are proud of
Cheers

I use every knife I own. For me, the most expensive knife I was afraid to use was my Spyderco Gayle Bradley and now it's one of my favorite work knives. I do use my $200 knives but the Gayle Bradley (when I got it) was the most expensive knife I had purchased at that point. Oh and I'm in college too.
