Morning men.Off to move my daughter home from college. Dam I can not believe she is done with her first year.Well my bank account knows it.....lol
Hey good stuff that you are creating enough demand to have to suspend new orders! I hope that at some point you find time to work on a marlin spike! I think a SGK would be a cool offering, something with a 3-4" blade, fine point, slender profile.
So I just need to work on winning the lottery so I can put you on payroll as my personal knife artist!

I forgot to say that I didn't find any sharps at the flea market worth looking at. I did bring home a large tap that I am going to try regrinding into a rotary checkering tool. Basically take a straight flute bottoming tap, grind three flutes off and chuck it in a mill or HD drill press and feed slowly into the spinning tool. It can work well on pistol frames I imagine.
Also got my weekly supply of breads from the local bakery that puts a booth up and runs special prices. $1 per loaf for white, french, dutch crunch bread, $3 for cinnamon breads (raisin, monkey, plain), loads of assorted other sweets. I always get a plain croissant to munch on, some sort of sweet loaf bread, and a dinner loaf. Today I also got apricot, peach and strawberry turnovers all baked fresh today. All for less than $8. Easily would be double or triple that in a store!
Doubtfull I will get shop time today, the wife just got a new Iphone so she is preoccupied and I have the rugrat. Today, Zyler reminded me that "diaper" spelled backwards is "repaid." Think about it...

LOL!!!! Exactly! I'm just into diapers right now!Morning men.Off to move my daughter home from college. Dam I can not believe she is done with her first year.Well my bank account knows it.....lol
Have a good one Big! I never understood it when people would say they don't realize how fast their kids grew up, until I had one! I remember the day my son came home like it was just last week. His first word, his first steps, all of it. Funny, when they're really little, they are expensive. They get a little cheaper by 2 but then it starts all over again!

Hey Thanks Xander! It was tough decision on the orders and that is just for now. I'l possibly open the books when the list gets shorter.
I may charge a deposit on orders in the future, it seems that I have a really hard time getting a hold of some people or their order lately. It is tough to spend a days on something, hold it for someone and then have them back out or not return my correspondence. In the meanwhile the other people that were interested are backing out because they saw another knife that is actually available.
I hope hope things get bigger and better for ya! Too bad on the false commitments by customers, unfotunately its part of doing custom work. I used to get that occasionally when doing rigging. I've gone to peoples boats and pulled all my work off before. Never fun. Just keep me in mind when you get some time to work on other things. Let me know if you need me to PP ya for the rigging knife, I know you gotta buy diapers and more steel!
Xander you are blowing my mind! I will never cease to be amazed by your incredible wealth of knowledge. What did you say you went to school for, I keep meaning to ask you.
I started my schooling for medical training during my senior year of high school, but left school because I had a surgery go bad and almost lost my leg due to infection. All the time in the hospital let me see what it was really like, so I went back for engineering. Got a few certs in design programs (AutoCAD, Pro Engineer, and also can do hand drafting) then got offered a job with a private lab doing gov't contracting building safe and arming devices for low/mid range weapons. I did weapons systems design in engineering research while getting trained in Metrology. I then ran the Metrology department and programmed the robot that replaced me and an $8/hour operator. After I left there I took about 4 months off and got heavily in cycling. Started collecting high end vintage race bikes from the late 50's to 1980 with a few newer ones as well. I started selling off my collection last year and have had some bikes sell to as far away as Japan. I got offered a job at a local bike shop and took it. Moved up into managment andbecame the custom wheel builder as well. Then was offered a general manager position at another shop and took that one. All while bar tending for fun money on Friday and Saturday nights. Been a hunter, camper, sailor my whole life, so being able to fix things with what you got is a valuable skill. Learning how to measure really small stuff and work in tight tolerances while at the lab is helping me now as a (wannabe) knife maker.
It is too fun isn't it! My daughter is learning to smile and smiles when she sees me now! It is awesome.
Just you wait 'til she's 8-9 months old and the personality really starts to show! That's when the fun really begins! Oh and she is at her easiest to care for stage right now, we spend all this time saying things like, I can't wait for them to walk, or talk. Then for the next 18 years we spend all our time telling them to sit down and shut up!
Dude, I just checked the bottom of your subforum "home" page and saw there were 2 members viewing and 35 guests! Word has gotten out! Quick, all you regualr Fairly fanatics get your knives before the uninitiated public does!

Xander wow you have been a busy guy! I can't believe all the cool stuff you have done! I had to look up what metrology was, very interesting. You would crack up on me measuring stuff, I have been known to measure a 2x4 with the extension cord to make a match!
I wish I had more of my old bike stuff, I used to be into bikes as well. They are a lot of fun and I need to get a new one.
I was cracking up on you talking about programming the robot and the guy that ran it! Sounds about right!
Haha, yeah usually when I tell people I was a metrologist they ask me what the weather is going to be like tomorrow! I have to correct them, metrology is the science of weights and measures, meteorology is the science of weather. Metrics vs. Meteors.
Actually, using an extension cord isn't that bad, what kills me is the guys who use their wingspan to measure things. Also as you and some others here know I was a repo man for the banks taking possession of foreclosed homes and then rehabbing them. That was an interesting job, being paid to break into houses! After several years of that, I am now damn good at it! I made my own lock picks and rakes, too. If it takes me more than 5 minutes to get in your house without breaking more than a doorknob, your house is pretty secure.
