I am very glad I got my order in back in January. I am excited for this second one because I know the quality of the knife I will be getting!!

I told myself I was going to get some shop time in yesterday. Well I started cleaning the knives at 9am, taking photos at noon and finished at 8:30 at night!

I have some fun stuff planned for today in the shop!

Hey good stuff that you are creating enough demand to have to suspend new orders! I hope that at some point you find time to work on a marlin spike! I think a SGK would be a cool offering, something with a 3-4" blade, fine point, slender profile.

So I just need to work on winning the lottery so I can put you on payroll as my personal knife artist!

I forgot to say that I didn't find any sharps at the flea market worth looking at. I did bring home a large tap that I am going to try regrinding into a rotary checkering tool. Basically take a straight flute bottoming tap, grind three flutes off and chuck it in a mill or HD drill press and feed slowly into the spinning tool. It can work well on pistol frames I imagine.

Also got my weekly supply of breads from the local bakery that puts a booth up and runs special prices. $1 per loaf for white, french, dutch crunch bread, $3 for cinnamon breads (raisin, monkey, plain), loads of assorted other sweets. I always get a plain croissant to munch on, some sort of sweet loaf bread, and a dinner loaf. Today I also got apricot, peach and strawberry turnovers all baked fresh today. All for less than $8. Easily would be double or triple that in a store!

Doubtfull I will get shop time today, the wife just got a new Iphone so she is preoccupied and I have the rugrat. Today, Zyler reminded me that "diaper" spelled backwards is "repaid." Think about it...

Have a good one Big! I never understood it when people would say they don't realize how fast their kids grew up, until I had one! I remember the day my son came home like it was just last week. His first word, his first steps, all of it. Funny, when they're really little, they are expensive. They get a little cheaper by 2 but then it starts all over again!

Hey Thanks Xander! It was tough decision on the orders and that is just for now. I'l possibly open the books when the list gets shorter.

I may charge a deposit on orders in the future, it seems that I have a really hard time getting a hold of some people about their order lately.

Xander you are blowing my mind! I will never cease to be amazed by your incredible wealth of knowledge. What did you say you went to school for, I keep meaning to ask you.

Cool on the bread too, we have stuff like that here but it isn't competitively priced like that! I'd like to see everyone doing stuff like that.

LOL!!!! Exactly! I'm just into diapers right now! :D

I may charge a deposit on orders in the future, it seems that I have a really hard time getting a hold of some people or their order lately. It is tough to spend a days on something, hold it for someone and then have them back out or not return my correspondence. In the meanwhile the other people that were interested are backing out because they saw another knife that is actually available.

I hope hope things get bigger and better for ya! Too bad on the false commitments by customers, unfotunately its part of doing custom work. I used to get that occasionally when doing rigging. I've gone to peoples boats and pulled all my work off before. Never fun. Just keep me in mind when you get some time to work on other things. Let me know if you need me to PP ya for the rigging knife, I know you gotta buy diapers and more steel!

Xander you are blowing my mind! I will never cease to be amazed by your incredible wealth of knowledge. What did you say you went to school for, I keep meaning to ask you.

I started my schooling for medical training during my senior year of high school, but left school because I had a surgery go bad and almost lost my leg due to infection. All the time in the hospital let me see what it was really like, so I went back for engineering. Got a few certs in design programs (AutoCAD, Pro Engineer, and also can do hand drafting) then got offered a job with a private lab doing gov't contracting building safe and arming devices for low/mid range weapons. I did weapons systems design in engineering research while getting trained in Metrology. I then ran the Metrology department and programmed the robot that replaced me and an $8/hour operator. After I left there I took about 4 months off and got heavily in cycling. Started collecting high end vintage race bikes from the late 50's to 1980 with a few newer ones as well. I started selling off my collection last year and have had some bikes sell to as far away as Japan. I got offered a job at a local bike shop and took it. Moved up into managment andbecame the custom wheel builder as well. Then was offered a general manager position at another shop and took that one. All while bar tending for fun money on Friday and Saturday nights. Been a hunter, camper, sailor my whole life, so being able to fix things with what you got is a valuable skill. Learning how to measure really small stuff and work in tight tolerances while at the lab is helping me now as a (wannabe) knife maker.

It is too fun isn't it! My daughter is learning to smile and smiles when she sees me now! It is awesome.

Just you wait 'til she's 8-9 months old and the personality really starts to show! That's when the fun really begins! Oh and she is at her easiest to care for stage right now, we spend all this time saying things like, I can't wait for them to walk, or talk. Then for the next 18 years we spend all our time telling them to sit down and shut up!

Cool stuff! It has been busy here lately!

You have really done some cool stuff Xander, I want to comment more later when my hands aren't worn out!

I spent all morning and afternoon working on getting orders out and after that I wanted to work on a liner lock I started yesterday. The blade is ready to heat treat and I didn't just want to put one blade in the kiln so I have a harpoon tip in the works as well now! Both are 1/8" S7! Both are in the kiln as I type this.

Morning men.Long day yesterday!!! When your daughter says oh I only have 1 car load left.Prepare to pack like never before.I am still wondering how we got it all to fit!!! Probably be slow moving for me for about 4 or 5 days now. That is what really sucks about a back injurie. Not only does it hurt when you do something but it really hurts the days after wards. You men have a great Tuesday!

Xander wow you have been a busy guy! I can't believe all the cool stuff you have done! I had to look up what metrology was, very interesting. You would crack up on me measuring stuff, I have been known to measure a 2x4 with the extension cord to make a match! :D

I wish I had more of my old bike stuff, I used to be into bikes as well. They are a lot of fun and I need to get a new one.

I was cracking up on you talking about programming the robot and the guy that ran it! Sounds about right!

Morning BigCountry! I remember the first time I moved, I fit a water bed and dresser in a 1981 Camaro! :D Lol I had a bunch of stuff tied to the roof and after 1/2 a block I went back and put it in the dumpster! Funny stuff..

Get some rest I hope you feel better!

I keep meaning to email you on that 4" blade... will do soon! :D sounds great!

Haha, yeah usually when I tell people I was a metrologist they ask me what the weather is going to be like tomorrow! I have to correct them, metrology is the science of weights and measures, meteorology is the science of weather. Metrics vs. Meteors.

Actually, using an extension cord isn't that bad, what kills me is the guys who use their wingspan to measure things. Also as you and some others here know I was a repo man for the banks taking possession of foreclosed homes and then rehabbing them. That was an interesting job, being paid to break into houses! After several years of that, I am now damn good at it! I made my own lock picks and rakes, too. If it takes me more than 5 minutes to get in your house without breaking more than a doorknob, your house is pretty secure.

Lol I bet! You probably also get "But you pronounced that incorrectly." :D

Lol after watching MacGuyver too many times I can pick a masterlock! Interesting stuff on the home repo, I bet you dealt with all sorts of crazy stuff!

Besides knives I know a bit about Geology and cooking stuff. I went to school on and off for a while there and at times majored in Geology, Anthropology, Restaurant Business and Political Science. I enjoyed it all and have nearly a 4.0 GPA for my last 2 years of school. (lmao I got a B in video editing)

I almost joined the Army when I was younger, I got every single question right on the ASVAB test and they tried to recruit me for years, lol!

Before I started making the knives my wife and I sold Jewelry, I cut stones and did a lot of mining for rough.

I used to get a lot of Rhodonite (pyroxmangite actually... found at my source and one other place on earth but is abundant on the moon!) It is marketed as Astorite by one mine owner. The stone is a mix of the pyrox, rhodochrosite and other minerals... mostly sulfides like Galena (lead) Sphalerite (zinc), Silver and Gold. The mine area I used to collect at (my buddy has a claim on the vein) has 100 miles of tunnels and supplied most of the gold for the Denver mint for years.

I also have the second largest collection of a rare platinum ore, it isn't worth processing but it is awesome lapidary rough. It looks a lot like Lapis but is purple with pyrite inclusions. I used to go every day to the old claim and look all day for a few pieces. I once found a big chunk of gangue with a huge vein running through it, spent two days digging it up and hauled it 3 miles through serious terrain, lol it was 200 pounds!

I have found some other cool and rare stuff as well but not like my old buddy. He is Apache and can look on Res land in conjunction with a University, he is the finder for their sites, the guy just has a nose for the stuff. He has found a mostly complete T-Rex, a complete Triceratops and numerous sea turtles and alligators out here in the desert.

Morning men.Daniel you and Xander are way above my intelligence level! I scored high enough on the ASVAB to land in my beloved Corps Infantry.I did go to college after some dead end jobs and 2 kids and a wife at home.I ended up graduating with a 3.78 GPA. Ended up in Law Enforcement which I had a total time of 24 years when I had to retire medically.

Morning-

Daniel, geology is a cool subject! I wish I knew more about it. Rhodonite, isn't that a conductive metal?

Big- schooling has nothing to do with intelligence, some of the dumbest people I ever met had Phd's, 35 years old and never had a job in their life. Never did anything that wasn't for school.

I'd rather trust someone with actual experiance than theoretical experiance. Think about a 30 year veteran fabricator with just a high school diploma vs. An engineer that has never even held a welding torch.

Off to work now.

Ugh, just got to work a bit ago, 4 pallets of product that didn't get put away last night, end of day stocking wasn't even attempted, and to top it off I find $440 dollars just sitting on the counter! Heads are gonna roll... I just can't believe the state I found the store in this morning!
