Haha! Ghost ride da whip! Go stupid, go stupid, go!

I remember one night (before children) maybe 5 or 6 years ago I was drivng to a night club in S.f. with a buddy and the girls we were going down an alley in my tahoe and there were range rovers, lexus', caddy's all ahead of us when they all jump out and onto the hood of their cars, the range rover ended up clipping a parked car too! The 'Hyphie' fad had just started and I litterally just hook my head and drove right on by that night club.

Too funny, it got popular and died out here already and your just finding out about it! Don't worry Daniel, your torn levi's and over sized flanel shirt will come back into style someday! :p:barf:

Mornin y'all! Gotta long day today, 10 hours, you'll probably see me on here throughout the day!

-Xander

Morning men from the big city! Xander do not work too hard. @ more days down here and back to the big woods. Xander I am also a levi and flannel guy.Have been for about 30 years now.

Haha, Big! I got nothin against woods folk in their flanel and levis, I was referencing the "Grunge" scene of the early 90's alt. rock crowd. I.e. Nirvana, Pearl Jam, P.O.T U.S.A., and bands like that. I figured since Daniel is about 4-5 years behind in pop culture, he should be roughly 4x that in years behind in style! Or maybe Colorado as a whole is just behind the times...:D:D:D

I know, I know, my fast paced west coast big city life ain't for everyone, but it ain't all that bad either! Always something exciting going on!

LOL!!!

Wait grunge isn't trendy?

You guys know I wear those MC Hammer Pants and a Mullets Rule tshirt every day, that's why I don't show myself on video.

Colorado, we have a lot of culture and activity here, like ummm.... the Denver Omlette.

Xander I bet you would really like Durango, CO they have lots of cool stuff going on there. I just live out in the middle of nowhere, but then again there isn't a ton of stuff here.

Live Webcam! http://www.dickgilbert.com/durangocam1.htm

I just ghost rid (oh the grammar) my 4 runner down to the shop, the chipmunks thought it was pretty cool.

Check this cam, I used to work on the bottom left corner selling jewelry. (just off screen so you have to imagine it!) :D

That hill in the background is barren because they scraped the topsoil off of it, thy had a smelter there and processed Uranium on that site.

At the base of that hill is a city park, some guys were in an Avalance there a few years back! Luckily thy had beacons!

Just working on your knife right now and the tube is flared!

I'm not going to lie, even though that wood is stabilized and rock solid I was scared to flare that tube! I had to take a break and calm down after pulling that off.

Teak!!!!

I decided to use stainless tube for two reasons, the Ti was way thicker than I had thought (would crack the wood maybe when flaring something so gnarly) and stainless won't cause any galvanic corrosion. I'm not really worried about the corrosion especially because it is 154cm but on a boat it never hurts as you know.

You didn't ask for Ti but you know me, I explain everything, lol... :D

I had a SAK rust when I lived on the boat and I thought swiss army knives just wouldn't rust! (stain Less!) I also got to shatter a super high end stainless turnbuckle that had corroded through in an almost dendritic manner.

:DSWEET!:D

Its all good on the stainless tube. You know me, this whole project pretty much has been "up to you!" I really am pleased with what I hav seen thus far. For you to go from my descriptions of certain aspects and a few examples of "standard" rigging knives to produce a design in the Fairly style is nothing short of impressive. For those of you who haven't been following this for the last 7 months, I never once gave Daniel an actual design to make, I told him blade size, non-pointy, knuckle clearance, and the scales were going to be teak! What it looked like in the end was entirely up to him. I trusted Daniel to this mainly because of his shipboad experiance and familiarity with such knives.

I have been on two boats that have lost the rig due to stainless fittings failing from rust. Stainless, not stainproof! First thing this is going to get is a solid coating of McLube Sailkote on the blade. I would put in on my wheaties if I could, I just love the stuff for making anything slippery! Too bad the wife doesn't like it...;)

Its crazy what rusted stainless looks like when it fails, very much like a dendritic structure. I once had a pair of pliers in a ziplock with triflow sitting in the bilge for maybe a week and they still turned to a seized up pile of rust! SF Bay is bad about it, I have seen serious damage done to aluminum overnight just from fog! Just wait til you see Magnesium in saltwater, its like an alkaseltzer!

I would of bought both riggers if I could of, but I'm glad you didn't have to sit on that one very long!

Now I'm really anxious!

Morning y'all! Got the day off, I need to get some shop time in today, I have to work on m mini, get another ready for heat treat, the scales on another are close to glue up too. Hopefully progress can be made!

-Xander

Very nice!

I shaped the scales on the Teak Rigging Knife and it is looking awesome! They are at 2000 grit and my wife is going to get me some Danish Oil to shine them up!

The crypto and S7 one is very close as well, sheath time!

Some scammer just emailed me from Redmond, Washington

If you guys don't hear from me for a week or so it is because I may find the guy and beat him relentlessly for the week.

I have his IP adress and would like to meet him.

Man, its almost noon and I haven't even stepped foot in the shop yet. Been running errands, taking care of chores, prepping stuff for dinner, why does life have to be so damn important and un-fun!

One last errand and then time to pour a drink and grab some grub to head for the shop. Nothing else will stop me!

-Xander

LOL I hear you! I'm watching the kiln which isn't exactly mind blowing entertainment! :D It is raining here, very nice! We need it..

I'm going to finish my spaghetti and get to grinding!

Xander your knife is looking killer! The teak feels like glass it is so smooth, I just need to bling it out now!

Have a great drive BigCountry!

I have been going all day, the choppers are completely heat treated and I have a second batch of knives in the oven.

I'm taking a break from oiling Xander's Rigging knife and it looks insane! I hope the teak stays this way. :D

Oh, don't worry daniel, it will be used very much! It's not gonna be a safe queen. First thing is a new knife lanyard. I need to get some more cotton cord for one, or I'll do a high tech cordage like Mafiolli Swiftcord or somethin. You guys will see it when I get it done!

Parade practice for 6 hours today. It was a nice light day. I've got 9 hours of parade practice tomorrow, and 12 hours everyday starting on Wednesday until next Friday (the day of the Graduation Parade here at RMC).

Well, time to get back to polishing my boots. I'm going to try and polish up my horn tomorrow (a Yamaha Custom, Kruspe wrap). I'll try and grab some before and after pictures assuming the MWO gets some Brasso for me.
