Morning men.Daniel you and Xander are way above my intelligence level! I scored high enough on the ASVAB to land in my beloved Corps Infantry.I did go to college after some dead end jobs and 2 kids and a wife at home.I ended up graduating with a 3.78 GPA. Ended up in Law Enforcement which I had a total time of 24 years when I had to retire medically.

And thank you for your service! Big respect Sir.

Morning-

Daniel, geology is a cool subject! I wish I knew more about it. Rhodonite, isn't that a conductive metal?

Big- schooling has nothing to do with intelligence, some of the dumbest people I ever met had Phd's, 35 years old and never had a job in their life. Never did anything that wasn't for school.

I'd rather trust someone with actual experiance than theoretical experiance. Think about a 30 year veteran fabricator with just a high school diploma vs. An engineer that has never even held a welding torch.

Off to work now.

-Xander

Exactly! Lol I'm just good at taking tests, anything to not listen to some boring lecture. I took Statistics and still wonder if they were making that garbage up on the spot. The letter I equals negative one... huh? I thought it was a vowel?

I know a girl who is going straight from school to teaching that subject. The arrogance amazes me! I may have known a bit about making knives from books but actual experience is way different!

My first gig in a band (lol it was Rock Band 101 an actual class I took) was at the county fair and we played Rock and Roll by Led Zeppelin along with a few other covers. The intro is a drum solo and I was the drummer! In practice I played it pretty well but at the gig I played it about twice as fast as normal! Reality vs School! :D

Ugh, just got to work a bit ago, 4 pallets of product that didn't get put away last night, end of day stocking wasn't even attempted, and to top it off I find $440 dollars just sitting on the counter! Heads are gonna roll... I just can't believe the state I found the store in this morning!

-Xander

Wankers! That $440 is for the pain and suffering you must endure. You wish right... :D

We used to go through a few pallets of dog food a month, talk about a pain to move around.

Someone (Ron White voice) left my shop in a huge mess yesterday... I'm about to go check the carnage momentarily. I have been working on a liner lock in my spare time and the mess is insane, lol I must have used 100 tools on this thing. I had no idea... I'm on frame 2 and blade 3. It's like a puzzle that looks easy to do! Lol in theory!

Geology rocks (pun intended). I've forgotten most of the stuff I learned in mineralogy. I'm a geologist by education but hydrogelogist by experience. My first job was great though... I worked at the Hawaiian Volacano Observatory as a research assistant (which meant I carried all the rocks samples back to the truck :) ).

I just googled Pyroxmangite and some of my stuff came up!

Here's some technical info http://www.mindat.org/min-3327.html

Here's some Jewelry with Pyroxmangite http://www.astorite.net/store/ They have another stone listed, Larimar. I used to be a dealer and I may have gotten these guys started in selling the stuff. I was the first person to start selling that stone locally and now there is a Larimar store in every town around here.

I wondered about your screen name! Cool!

I bet working in Hawaii was awesome!

I usually do a lot of local collecting, we have some nice spots here and rare deep earth minerals. You can find Sylvanite even... Lots of fun stuff. Geology Rocks! :D

I used to have this framed above my desk at the lab...

"In theory, practice and theory are the same."

"In practice, they are not."

I always told the engineers to check with the machinist before making a design revision. They would be so furious about that. "I'm the engineer, I design it, they just cut it out!" So I would tell them to give me the design and I will go to the machinist to find what works best for his tooling and processes to increase our yield. We are here to make money, afterall. Some of them just couldn't grasp that concept. Some of them had Ph.D's.

I can't wait to see this folder you got going! I know how much of a pain it is, I went through 3 templates and two jigs on my slip joint before I even cut out the blade and spring!

I wish we only went through a few pallets a month! 9 pallets shipped yesterday, four more today and two or three tomorrow. I offload and stock all of it by hand. My back is good and strong now! Oh and that cash on the counter is from cash drops throughout the day, so who knows how long it actually was sitting out!

Back to work now!

-Xander

Yep, you too, Big!

Morning everyone. More new employee training today. Haven't met this girl yet, hope she works out!

-Xander

hey xander I think I might have left 440 $ on the counter at your work ,did you find it? I need that money to buy Fairly knives.

No that was my $40, I swear!!! :D

Hey FlatblackCapo whats going on! Hey Xander, Hey BigCountry!

I haven't looked at Bladeforums yet today.... typing like crazy today! BRB

I forget did someone mention epoxy for making scales here? Someone asked me and I forgot to answer... I'm a bit out of it lately, my allergies are just nuts.

Xander, do you still do CAD/CAM or drafting work? I may have to talk to you about cleaning up a drawing for an idea I have if you are interested.

OK back to work! :D

Nah, Kevin, I don't think it was yours. It was all large bills, not change in ziplock baggies. Besides why would you come to my work? I don't sell hot cheetos or 40's of malt liquor! :D

It was me asking about your MyCarta. What type of resin you use or have tried. I have some ideas and can get epoxy, polyester, or vinylester resins. I would like to try polyester because of cost.

My laptop was stolen a few years ago and I decided I spent too much time on it anyways, so I don't have any CAD programs anymore, but I still do hand drafting if you want an analog drawing! The last drawing I sent you was actually done in MS Paint!

Shoot me an email, you peaked my interests!

Morning men.Going down by Detroit so my daughter's fiance can meet the family down there.I will be headed back home Tuesday morning. Dam do I hate going down to the big cities down there.

Cheetos and Malt Liquor! Come on over!

Xander talk to you soon on that, I worked on my drawing more and it is closer but for a while there I didn't think I'd pull it off. I have a cool idea for a survival/dive/backcountry knife in Titanium and the design is what I'm working on.

Have a good one BigCountry!

Buenos dias! Happy cinco de Mayo!

Gotta work at a different store today, but I get time and a half for it! Its also nice for a change of pace.

Hey Daniel, you go any links for tips on working silver? I think I'm going to use some .999 silver for the guard and pomel on my mini. Or do you think coin silver would be better? Do I anneal it just like other nonferrous metals? Is it as ductile as Cu? I have never done much with silver, so any tips you have would be great!

Morning men.Had a 5 hour trip turn into an 8 hour trip had to go almost to Ohio before I could go West to my Mother In Laws house.Nice when they have 2 freeways closed and no detour directions.I am whipped.Knowing my new chopper is coming made me concentrate on that instead of getting pissed about the extra length of the trip.

Hey Big, that blows! Once I got mixed up bringing a boat back from Berkeley and ended up in the bus lane to go across the Oakland-S.F. Bay bridge, only to come down into 4 Highway Patrols sitting there writin tickets to everyone that wasn't a bus! $485! Then I had to cross the bridge and find a way to turn around with a 34' boat that is 8.5' high on the trailer! The worst part is it was a female cop with a chip on her shoulder, no compassion for anyone. 2.5 hour drive turned into a 4 hour adventure trying to just get going in the right direction, between construction, closed on ramps, weight limits on streets, traffic, it was a mess!

Well crack open a Corona, squeeze a lime in there, put on your sombrero and call it a day!

Oh Hey Cool, Happy Cinco de Mayo! I didn't realize it was until you mentioned it. My wife says we should take a break today so we're going for a cruise soon! I need it, I ground my fingernail down yesterday and need a day to heal. The dip bucket kills anything so I'll heal fast! ok that's only half true... :D

Silver... www.ganoskin.com may be the best forum to learn from. I haven't done a ton of silverwork myself but my wife has. We are still learning to solder though.

Silver is pretty easy to work, just cut it with a jewelers saw and file to shape. A fine needle file set is the way to go for that. After that you can sand it, 220-320 is a good start and it will sand quickly at that grit. 400 is also a good starting point with clean filework. Then go 600-800, 1000-1200. Buff or polish with Zam compound for a full on mirror polish. You can get a tube of Zam at any jewelty supply and it will last forever if you store it in a cooler place. Zam is also awesome for refinishing old jewelry on the buffer, it works super well on turquoise and a lot of other stones. (but can orangepeel others)

You can get silver in soft, half hard and hard. Copper is a bit tougher to work with. Silver will easily work harden so anneal it as often as you want. The guys here who are really good at stamped silver bracelets ($1000 stuff) may anneal dozens of times getting the stamps as deep as they like which is super deep.

I think fine or .999 silver will be too soft to last on a knife in regular use. I bet it would be awesome on a mini.

I'm not sure on coin vs pure except that usually alloyed silver is harder, tougher and a bit harder to work with. Argentium Silver is a new formula that almost won't oxidize or tarnish, you can also fuse it or "forge weld" it. If you can find a better deal on coins they may be a great way to go.

www.monsterslayer.com has anything you need including the silver and supplies, I think they post tips too

I hope this helps!

New Chopper! :D New Chopper! :D New Chopper! :D

Sorry you had to go through that, traffic problems suck. I have driven way out of the way myself! It's funny looking back at it. (and only looking back)

Yep!

They have checkpoints here for mandatory searches and get away with by publishing it in the paper... wtf? I consider telling them to stick it until they come up with probable cause, they really need to go by the freaking Constitution! It's like they haven't heard of the Bill of Rights. People justify it but we are giving our freedom away.

You guys have a great day!

Evening men having a Coke zero and took my wife out to dinner for Cenco De Mayo seeing my wife is Mexican.

Very nice, I just go in from a drive. We went and cruised through a lot of farmland, lots of fun and Jade likes the car trips. :)

I just sat down and am watching some netflix... ordering more knife supplies too!

Here's some really weird stuff I just found out about... really weird.

Ghost Ride the Whip - I was going to start doing it all the time, I just can't figure out how it will work with a standard transmission!
