Well its 8:20am, I'm sitting in front of the bagel shop enjoying 65* sunshine, 10 knot breeze, some scattered clouds, a toasted blueberry bagel with strawberry schmear, a tall latté and watching Daniel fondle my wood-handled knife on youtube! Life is good. I jus can't wait to get a couple of DFK knives into my gruby paws!

Big, I know that a fire of any size is scary, but those size fires are small compared to what we get out here every year.

I checked out that fire, sounds serious. The last bad one here was 70,000 acres a few years back.

Scary stuff Xander! Fire, flood, mud and earthquakes... the 4 California seasons, lol!

Haha, yeah but remember that's the Southern California life. Up here (well I'm in central cali), its really quite benign. We get eathquakes every so often, a couple tornados every now and then, a tsunami twice a century, but the biggest danger here is a sun burn!

Very true, it looks beautiful there as well.

Well men the fire is up over 20000 acres and burning 1 1/2 miles per hour. The Two Hearted River Camp ground store and canoe rental all burned to the ground. That is where we always go on our canoe trips every year.I guess we will not this year.I feel for the people that are losing so much!

The worst part is my youngest daughter works at the Tahquamenon Falls State Park and they are sending campers to different camp grounds and are talking about shutting the park down. If they do I am going to drive out through where the fire is close to 123 to make sure she gets home safely!

Morning men from fire central. Well they closed the park down completely so my daughter does not go to work today.all we can smell is burnt wood here in town and we are 14 miles from the southern fire boundary!I was not resting till I went and got my daughter last5 night and had her follow me home through all the smoke. I got us back safe.I was afraid of her going too fast and there is no cell reception north of town.

I hope everyone is doing great! :D

Speaking of fires my valley is filled with smoke. In times like this I wish we got a tv signal. Our local paper is pretty good about emergency updates on their website.

There is a big fire down the road. Our weather today - 7% humidity 15-55 mph winds!

I had to double take the 55 part, that is some wind!

My cat was running around outside in the wind, it is too funny to watch!

Hey it's Memorial Day Weekend! You guys have fun and be safe!

No rest for the wicked here, lol! Today is knife making day! :D

I was having fun last night...

Morning y'all! This morning I had an excellent chance for knife advocation and education. I'm standing in line at the AmPm getting a pint of milk for my breakfast. I have my messenger bag on still because I parked my bike in my store across the street and didn't want to carry my wallet and keys etc. Anyways, I carry a roughly 3" blade drop point hunter (thanx to DanCo) in a kydex sheath (thanx to gunfixrjoe) on the shoulder strap. When my bag is behind my back, the knife sits right above my right hip out of the way, but I spun my bag around to get my wallet and the knife is now front and center. The cashier is a nice lady, maybe mid 40's and attractive, I have a great report with her and see her quite frequently. She makes small talk about the day to come, her dog doing stupid pet tricks, and then she spots my knife...she gives me the stink eye nd says, "looks like your ready to take down a bear with that knife." At this point I let it roll off, she just doesn't understand. But a woman standing to my left with her hair tightly pulled back, playing on her i-phone and making a mess with lotto scratchers says, "I should take that from you, you have no business carrying that," like I'm an 8 year old kid or something. I turn and politely tell her that I have to carry it in the open to be legal, california requires that a fix blade knife of any length NOT be concealed, but has no size limit. She says no, it has to be smaller than the width of your palm. Ugh, "No, that's a completely subjective measurement first off, and second, just no." "Your wrong."

I remain very polite and respectful to this woman, but kept reinforcing that it is my responsibilty to know the law if I am going to carry a knife. I know I can't carry it on school capuses, federal or local gov't buildings, and some other places, but god damnit (!) I know I CAN carry it legally almost anywhere I want. After a couple minutes going back and forth with the woman I finally instilled enough doubt in her own mind that she pulled a 180 and stopped saying she was going to take MY knife.

It is my responsibility to know the laws for knife carry, but it is her JOB to know them, she is a cop afterall. She is a city officer that is attched to the university campus, she knows the laws on her turf, but seemed to be just applying whatever twisted common sense she claimed to have to the rest of the city. I was in county limits too, actually, so she was even further out of jurisdiction.

Learn your local knife laws, and always respect any member of the law, but don't just lay down and disarm because they think you should, stand up for your rights.

Found a thread over on EDCF about paracord grips being kinda put down, a "fad", only for small neckers, difficult to wash, etc.

Naturally....had to put in my two cents worth...

Daniel, I took the liberty of 'borrowing' a couple of your pix, to prove my point:

And I'm still jealous of IMWILSON, who ended up with this incredible specimen

Ok, I just had to jump into that thread as well. Sometimes people just don't get it.

People... I don't get lot of the general public.

I once got lost in the Dominican Republic and asked a Hatian who was sharpening his cane machete in for directions the field. People in the car were like "what if he machetes you" I'm thinking, well... he is in a sugar cane field. We couldn't understand each other enough for me to get directions but I did get to check him sharpening a 4 foot machete to hair popping sharp with a file and we bumped fists when I left! lol everyone rocks a machete in the Caribbean though, me included when I lived there.

Freedom is important to me.

Gnarly, thanks! I never mind if anyone uses my photos for good purposes by the way. I'll be there later for discussion.

Cool, I saw that!

The really important part is to use an epoxy that soaks in well. I use West System with a hardener made especially for fabric, it really soaks in well but looks dry. There is a tiny amount of give but when you tap the handle it is solid... tink tink!

I like removable cord handles like you see on Izulas and Striders too, I have never sold any knives that way though.

I remember watching this a few days ago:

Cool thanks for posting that!
