Glad your feeling better bro! Maybe take this as a chance to change out the filters in your respirators, maybe something in there gave you the infection. Or just be sure to wash your hands before you pick your nose (and after!)!

Mini Ti-bar, Ti-spike, and an ulu...OH MY!

Got a good gig redoing a boat for a long time client of mine, should be good for a couple of house payments for just about 10 (14-16hour) days work! This is my first open checkbook project, "do what you think needs to be done and send me the bill" this year. Normally I get a couple ongoing ones around march, but I guess the economy is starting to trickle up as my financial buddies like to say.

Hey Gnarly, you should have Daniel make one of your fancy tactical survival pencils in O1 and a kydex sheath!

That is a great idea on the respirator, the funny thing is that I got a brand new 3m full face respirator and was sick as could be the day after using it. If I get sick again I'm sending that sucker in for analysis, lol. It seems to work very well though, I bet I was just getting run down but then again you never know.

I only make it out in public maybe once a week lately so that could be it, I ran errands one day and was sick the next. I have only taken maybe 2 days off this summer for fun, lol maybe I just need to chill out!

Boat stuff... really cool! I like working on boats too, one day I will make a epoxy/plywood boat for fun, I used to really be into sailboat design/construction. Hopefully this job turns in to more!

edit... coffee... must have coffee before responding

Survival pencils? I have to check those out!

Man it is crazy here in the woods this morning, the acorns are huge and there are some serious turf wars going on, squirrels vs stellar jays (big monster bluejays). They are getting in to it! The Jays work in teams, one scares the squirrels by making squirrel sounds and shaking the bushes with its beak while the other picks away and drops them in one spot, when they get a few they grab them and fly off. The squirrels are furiously chewing branches off the trees above them and bombing them while they work! Last year we had one that threw pinecones and small branches at us when we went to our car, it was too funny and kind of dangerous, a pinecone weighs a lot before it ripens!

Throw the pinecones back! Too funny! Out here I usually have to dodge the crows dropping walnuts and pecans in the parking lot to break them open. Fun to watch sometimes, up and down, up and down til it breaks. The worst is opening a boat with wasp nests inside it! I don't run very often, but wasps hurt like hell when they get you! They remember, seems like, as well. You just get near the boat and they swarm you.

Lots of sanding going on today, hopefully I can start refinishing the teak tomorrow. The owner wants 10 coats of oil, hand rubbed on all exterior wood and 4 on interior. Not to hot today though, only supposed to be 90.

And I just finished sanding the forward hatch which isn't in the picture.

Wasps... no! They suck!

That is a cool looking boat, what kind is it? I have never refinished teak but I have done my share of varnish work.

I like these Carriacou Sloops... all house paint lol!

After these I have a few more orders on the books, I need to check my order list... these are the older ones. Also in the works is a a large chef's knife in 2.5" tall 3/32 A2 and 2 - 9" long tantos in .315" thick 3/4" inch tall A2 tool steel. There is also a top secret collaboration project with KFU in the plans!

wtf is the havok? and the .36 special.. me forgets what that was O_O guess I need to scan the forum :D

and the original midsized chopper? is that for an order? and was that your original avatar?

gooey- I received my framelock from R. Flaherty.. it's nice.. It's no show stopper.. but it will be a worker. I think it's worth the price for sure, but could be refined.. the screws are really close to the edge of material, the washer is of a lower grade than what I'm used to.. I'm picky. My favorite folder/flipper is my Mikkel Willumsen... and I love the value of Black Bear Knives folders.. all liner locks, I have 3, and my 4th (The Intimidator) will be here in a few weeks.. great knives... I'm bored and tired.. babbling.. moooo

/me passes the mic to the left hand side.

hrmmm yes another beer.. I'm trying to cut down consumption.. Three 7.5% beers a night is starting to make me feel like a lush these days.. 10, even 5yrs ago though, shiz was just the beginning of my night =_=

wtf is the havok? and the .36 special.. me forgets what that was O_O guess I need to scan the forum :D .360 convex ground chopper with clip point and stall mat

and the original midsized chopper? is that for an order? and was that your original avatar? Yes to all of that! I'm making a polished one with a choil.

I also have even more in store I forgot about...18" OG chopper, .360 BFK, big wharnie in .360 lol probably more than that! All orders or requests besides 3 or 4.

hey sloth, thanks for the info on the Flaherty folder. I also noticed that the screws were pretty close to the edge on the scales on the framelocks, but like you said, the knife is a really good value for the price. I was very interested in that first liner lock that he had put up at the beginning of August I think it was, the one that he said was heavy. The screws on that one were along the middle. The Paul Bos heat-treated A2 is a huge factor in my wanting it.

I remember a sebenza-like folder that Black Bear had not too long ago, I liked that one. One thing that grabbed my attention was their folding camp knife, almost a foot and a half long open! Their prices are very reasonable though.

The Mikkel Willumsen folders are very nice, I liken them to the Yunas with that angled overall profile. I haven't handled either one, but despite their aggressive and menacing appearance, I bet they are very comfortable and natural to hold. Those types of designs are what I really like, being on opposite ends of having traditional folder lines. That said, I am on the hunt for a Dwaine Carillo knife, something like a Tripwire II:
sized

or any Airkat knife, for that matter. The fixed blades are crazy. They're so over-the-top with a lot of detail to the blade, the grinds, the fixtures, the scales, the shape, they're mind-boggling. Daniel, you should take a look at www.airkatknives.com :)

Fishing tomorrow!

Those Dwaine Carillo knives are crazy looking! I really do like his style. I would love to see a colaboration between him and Jens Anso, Dwaine do the blade and Anso do the handle. That would be pure wickedness!

Back to sanding on the boat. The old finish is super hard, its tearing up 150# gator grit paper like crazy. I got only about 2ft^2 per 1/4 sheet of paper before it has to be changed.

Note to self: spit the chew out before the respirator goes on and starting work!

-Xander

Sloth357 I hear you on the beer thing, it gets tough!

Gooeytek, those knives are sweet, I like the attention to detail. I hope the fishing rocks!

Xander, yeah they are cool huh! Anso is the man when it comes to handles, he is a big influence in my work. I need a horizontal grinder like he uses so I don't have to stand at odd angles when working on handles! Dang 150 gator is tough but teak is tougher I bet!

lol yeah no chew with the respirator! I keep trying to wear safety glasses with my new full face respirator, lol that doesn't work!
