Daniel Thanks for the video of the .36 special slicing paper. I showed that to moma and told her mine was going to be longer and with MCAM handle slabs. Now she is all pumped to see my new knife get here. She knows it is hunting season and always wants me to have the best gear because I get way off the beaten path. So thanks again Dan!

Very nice! It will be field ready.

I was up to 12:30 checking the heat treat oven, man it rocks! It stays within 2 degrees of temp even at low temperatures! Right now they are going through another 150 minute temper cycle.

yes.. we need KNIFE PHOTOS! WsIP.. perhaps.. your shop with some blanks.. bear pics :D I think we all need to drop some photos to share.. This has been so one-sided :D well sort of.. I'll try to get a group photo soon. Might be sunny today and tomorrow here.. *_* looks it so far :]

Still morning here! But if its afternoon where you are, that's enough reason for me to crack open a brew!

Hey Xander what's going on man!

I say that is a good enough excuse... as the pirates would say "the sun is past the yardarm, Yaaaarrrgggghhhh!"

It's technically morning here and I just got some photos of what was in the oven.

First the big ones!

.360 Wharnie- will be for sale soon
5/16" S7 Custom Chopper - for an order, I hope to get this one closer today
Massive cleaver - my new neck knife or something like that, it has a drilled out handle for a very weight forward design.

Bushcraft knife - will get blue/black G10 scales. It's for an order but I'll be making more eventually.

Tanto - 5160 and getting a nice cord wrap, check out the cool hamon like hardening line, this is because the metal in that area is thinner and hardened faster, I didn't do anything to manipulate it, just a regular quench.

3 kiridashis - 2 for orders and 1 that was supposed to be, I made it a little too pointy

Hey bro! I haven't been around lately due to getting off on a tangent with razors. I am geting ready to restore a second straight, and have also picked up a late 50's english Gillette Super Speed. I just had my first shave with it, and I looked like I used a weed whacker to shave with! Blood oozing from all over my face and neck! Still the closest shave I have ever had, though.

You get around to cleaning up those I-XL razors yet?

LMAO about the weed whacker comment, ouch! I bet they take some getting used to. That first one you restored with the bamboo scales came out very nice!

I haven't really messed with those razors at all, I might try to restore the better one this winter when I have some more time.

Daniel,

I meant to ask you what bourbon barrel-aged stouts that you have aging (or what are some of your favorites)? Have you ever tried "Founders KBS", "Hoppin' Frog Barrel-aged BORIS", or "Firestone Walker Parabola"? Dang, I'm getting thirsty just talkin' 'bout it..:D

daniel, more time?? lol oh wait, baby is due next year spring.. yeah you will have some time this winter.. but it will be THE LAST FREE TIME for a long time, unless your wife does everything.. which will make her HATE YOU hahahaha (laughing as I know some of this pain, however I am around a lot and do half the work and child care etc.. nap duty, putting kid down at night, diaper changes.. :D ).

Re: child duties

Daniel, if you can swing it, try to take care of all the overnight child care. I have been the only one to wake up with my son since birth and it is fantastic leverage to try to get done what I want during the day! My wife "can't" hear our son when he wakes up, so I get all the over night duties which is only tough for the first 6-8 months. Beyond the leverage it is immensley satisfying to hold your child and get them to go to sleep in your arms! The key is routine, I ALWAYS hum the same song, hold him the same way, give him the same treatment. Kids respond very well to this. Now I wake up when he flops over in bed, I am so used to it. Occasionally my wife tries to put him to bed and he's like WTF are you doing? This isn't how it goes! It's really kinda funny. My boy just turned two on the eleventh and things are pretty much settled into a decent routine. Good luck, and your life will never be the same! Oh, and make sure t get a baby monitor that will reach into the shop, this has afforded me a couple hours during the day to work out there.

Daniel what are a ball park figure for your bushcrafter knives? Have noteven got my first order and thinking about my second. I know when the baby comes everything grinds to a halt. I had my first one at 15 second at 19 and my baby when I was 25.Now they are 29,25 and 18 and I am 44 waiting for grandkids....lol.
A grandson to teach how to hunt and track deer and fish for brook trout. That is what I look forward too.My son is getting married next August so my fingers are crossed they have children quick. Sorry to ramble!

I have a home brewed 10% version of Arrogant Bastard that I secondary aged on lightly toasted American Oak chips for 2 months before bottling. It gave the beer a nice sweet and full flavor. It has now been aging for about 2 years and seems to keep on getting better... I liked it right off the bat though, strong beers are my favorite. I call that one "Old Dirty Bastard."

I also have a Belgian Dark Strong Ale that reminds me of Chimay Red but is better, I aged it on dark European Oak that I think was from recycled barrels, it is good stuff.

I have made a few more but I forget, sometimes I like to age a small amount on wood out of a bigger batch. I need to take a day and brew some beer, I used to be pretty in to it.

Was it Shiner that made a 9% bourbon barrel aged stout recently? I had a good one a while back. Need to check...

I'm hoping to make a few here somewhat soon and they run around $150.

I hope I can keep it all up!

Top to bottom :

Hollow Ground 1084 with aged natural micarta scales and flared stainless tube - I need to finish the sheath up for this and then it's for sale. it looks way better than the photo, I have it covered in Ballistol at the moment. Great all around knife...

.360 Wharncliffe styled chopper - I think it may get some sort of glow scales and a crazy smoke and chrome patina. It's gonna be bad!

5/16" S7 Chopper - Full convex grind, chisel tip, microbevel. I'm signing it and attaching some red G10 scales tomorrow. This design was based on a customers input and I think it is a really good one. It has a simple to sharpen chisel ground tip, a wood splitting convex grind and an easy to sharpen straight microbeveled edge. There is a lot of weight forward and I can tell from today's testing this fat one will want to eat a lot more wood, it really chopped deeply with minimal effort. :D
