Morning gang.

Did a little more rock hounding yesterday. Found some shale type rock but was super soft and crumbled in my hand like egg shells. I found another chunk of the green rock and split it open to find a nice little crystal of iron pyrite, aka fools gold. I kept it and will give it to Zyler, never too young to start learning the sciences. The shale like rock feels like a clay or adobe type mud stone, I grabbed a piece because it is much finer grained than th red ones, it might work better as a Nagura stone.

I'm finding out the hazards of rockhounding, tramping through unstable ground and reaching into holes, chips flying off as I break rocks, cuts that are now showing signs of infection after just 12 hours, walked into a swarm of stink bugs yesterday and found a very smelly dead skunk.

Daniel, I began to dig up some of my rocks I have collected over the years of camping/hunting and realized I have a nice chunk of jade, I can't remember where this one came from, but its a nice piece!

:D That rocks!

Rockhounding is a lot of fun and after a while you will be finding stuff everywhere... or know that there is nothing. Here we have a ton of good sites and rare deep earth minerals.

Dangerous for sure! I wear safety glasses and a face shield is a good idea if you are doing a lot of hammering. Cobbing technique is helpful, that is what I do. Sometimes I would spend all day cobbing rhodonite, I would keep maybe 1 of 10 pieces and come home with a ton on a good day!

Here there are tons of tailings piles and clinker or slag piles, you can find good stuff but I would stay clear of them without a respirator and safety gear.

I would never go into an adit or open shaft, too sketch! My friends mine was full of 200 foot drops and sketch stuff. Any mine with pyrites or sulfides has a good chance of gas problems.

I think I saw a bar of wrought (I couldn't get to) the last time I went collecting! Still figuring out how to get it. I look for any on the ground and found a good piece a while back. Here we have a lot of mines being reclaimed and cleaned up, I just look through the piles they make for free stuff like that. It will get trucked off or buried soon.

We have a local club here, for $5 you can use the equipment after a bit of free training. I am into finding that one good piece now and coming home and cutting it.

Look into the laws too, that book I linked to would probably have them listed.

The last time I went to my parents place I was thinking of the geology and figured maybe I could find petrified wood in one spot, sure enough I looked and saw a few pieces laying right on the ground! Stuff is everywhere! I found a petrified forest a few years ago with many logs that were VW size. My old friend knows his stuff really well and had spotted and dug (legally) a triceratops and a sea turtle all within 50 miles of my house.

Oh yeah, that jade is killer! Nice looking stuff.

I think those are Horneblende crystals at the bottom, I find them a lot here.

I like to cut Jade, it orangepeels easily but can polish so nicely. It can just look incredible. In China they carved it for years with only bamboo sticks and pastes like garnet mud.

...I have some Purple jade I should cut, I keep wanting to. It would be a cool Menuki. I also have a Black Jade Buck 110 I made that needs finishing, I started it a long time ago. Jade is really tough, I made a guitar pick from black jade that gets a lot of hard use and it is still perfect.

Good Morning Guys!

I need to talk to a lot of you, I just looked and have a whole page of new emails. I was in the shop so long yesterday I never even looked at the computer except for referencing a few things. I had to do a lot of random work, I think I used about every piece of equipment I own! Good news because that means a lot is almost done!

Grind or take photos... not sure yet but I'm about to get to work! You guys have a good one! :D

It (oh yea it=TBOK)is very nicely done. I'm gonna go cut stuff now!! THANKS Daniel!!!!! I'll take some pix monday and post them.

Evening gang, I should have been home over an hour ago, but I had a computer glitch during a sale today and it messed things up causing me tons of paperwork and trying to get ahold of the IT guy at corporate on a weekend at 730 is near impossible. Finally got things figured out and covered my ass because the glitch is going to make the cash sales short for the day and I was in charge. Lots of paper work, gotta prove where the money went and what happened. So much for computers making life easier...

The wife and kid are down in L.A. this weekend with her family, so I have been relaxing and tonight I think I might go play in the shop a bit sanding on those razors. I just got a sweet vintage swiss one that I'll show tomorrow, I've been after one like it for a while now. All I got to say is it has scales made from a carapice!

Tonights elyxir: Bulleit Burbon, two fingers over one ice cube. Brie and crackers to snack on.

Sounds rough! I hope it all turned out OK.

Cool on the razors! You have been putting out some awesome stuff.

I think I fell asleep about 15 minutes after my workday, lol. I was excited to anodize the new round of TBOK's and finish sanding the scales on the S7 knives. My D2 tanto batch is nearly done too, I decided to redo one wrap that I was not happy with and did a wrap over krypto on the big one! I was unsure about the idea but now I want to keep it, the green looks killer under the wrap.

Afternoon men.Sorry I have not been on much been busy with different aspects of getting my life in order. Running for appointments and a court hearing for Social Security disability. Them people are tight asses!

Thanks! I use paint on the rare occasion and those were done with the free editor on photobucket. I just have a free account there.

I never post an edited photo besides cropped or sized photos and these obvious edits but man, the photoucket editor is a lot of fun. I'm just using somme presets on these.
