Morning gang!

Off to the farmers market in a few minutes, then I'm going to head to the flea market with my boy once he wakes up. We'll see what I find this week!

Mornin gang, shipping out a couple of knives today from the exchange. You got a good deal on that M4 Manix, Kev!

This one shipped out to me from Nathawut yesterday, can't wait to get it. My CQC-10 with full Ti-framelock conversion :) :

Thanks a bunch Gooey ! That is one sick emerson! How about a pass around to let us all try it out:eek::D
I finaly have my grinder/sander it is Not what I expected but it will be better than what I had which was nothing. It is a 4x 36 with a 6" disc on it . I'm still trying to save for a real grinder..........someday ........someday soon. Have a great weekend y'all.

Wow cool stuff!

FBC I do like that, it really has the whole post apocolyptic thing down!

Gooeytek that is just killer, I am a huge Emerson fan and that just rocks.

Rough day here, problems mailing knives... more problems getting materials as priority mail is consistently taking up to 10 days here and is pick up only at the P.O. an hour away, they sent me a freaking pick up notice this afternoon after they are closed on a package sent out last Monday priority even though we were there earlier today to mail knives out.... I spent all morning sanding a W2 tanto to 600 grit and decided it wasn't fully hardened... hardened it and cracked it in nearly half in two spots, lol the sori is incredible.

First 420 regatta of the season. Not so great in 6th, but on the plus side: We're not last!!!!
hopefully another 6 races per fleet tomorrow. On the plus side there are no dropped races in collegiate sailing. Those teams with an OCS or two are going to be hard pressed to make that up.

A few rough starts, and short races make the start super important. Irregular winds coming from the East, and the Southwest thermal was trying to build at the same time...

Not that the image below updates regularly, so today's wind info won't be available in a few hours.

Daniel, that's rough! I've been there, I almost botched that kamisori today doing more grinding! Note to self, keep the bourbon out of the shop! I have never ground something so thin before, this thing makes me pucker at both ends anytime I grind on it. Almost done grinding though, its at ~150# right now. Getting the edge straightened out had been slow going, I keep ice in the dip bucket and only get a couple seconds to grind on it per pass.

Andrew, looks like your off to a solid start. Always tough to deal with an onshore breeze turing against a ocillating offshore puff. I sail in a ditch here, shifty winds, lots of tactical situations, there is no real bias to the course so its figure out the tides and current and adjust to suit wind direction. I've had good luck in shifty races using the "lead 'em out and cross 'em" game plan. Start at the committee end and tack after 20 seconds and sail fat to pick up speed, you'll drag them over with you, then tack back onto starboard, keeping your inside tell-tail just curling but not pinching you'll likely cross the fleet at the front of the train to the mark. Just a tactic from my playbook, its an old one, I don't know your race course but it may be some help.

Yeah, that's what everyone has been doing all day. RC has been favoured too (it is a big one that block a significant amount of wind/clean air). Tomorrow is supposed to be much of the same plus rain. We are racing a basic windward leeward course. no trap or spin, which is helpful, as I can use my 200lbs to an advantage when it is blowing hard. I really should lose a good 20lbs but at the moment it has its advantages (25-35 kts is no problem :D). I don't really care how we do over all; I just want to beat the A fleet skipper and prove to myself that I am in fact better than him...

Ha! Windward/leeward courses are par for us ditch sailors. If you can't get in front, out tack the competition! You've got the weight to roll tack like mad and use the rules like crazy! On the run, throw the boom over and call rights on an overlapped boat; false tacks to throw the competition, call for "space" not room in a situation where you have no sea room rights, I they tack its nice, if they protest you were only asking for a courtesy and they are required to know the rules as well. College sailing is dirty!

Good morning guys!

AWC cool stuff there! Good to see you here.

Xander if I have a grind that needs straightening I always go back to 80 grit, I have a tough time otherwise. I bet that grind is crazy hard on top of that! Good luck with it.

Morning gang.

Daniel, I was grinding at 50# but it is so thin now (new pic in the wip thread) that I want to be able to hand sand it without having to go real crazy on it. I'm removing such small amounts of steel now that the coarser grits actually deform the blade rather than cut it, pushing it out of the way! I have to concentrate 110% when grinding this razor, just entering into a pass is nerve wracking! If I am not lined up and I touch the edge to the wheel first rather than the whole hollow it will be toast! I grind for 20-30 minutes and am worn out from just the focus required. I figure one more grinding session and I can go to hand sanding.

I think you should try one! It will make you focus on the littlest details when grinding!

Not bad! Just remember, your worst day racing beats your best day working! (Unless you sink the boat, I really wished I had been at work that day)

-Xander

I'm happy, it was the first race of the season, against technically superior opponents, and my crew was rather inexperienced (first race if I am not mistaken).

Good morning guys!

I got your mic all boxed up and will be shipping it out either today or tomorrow. I will let you know when it goes out.

Gonna take the dog for a walk, then try to get some grinding done on that kamisori. Hopefully I can start handsanding on it today! I only have a couple hours before work, so I have to try to be as efficient as I can.
