Good morning guys!

Super busy here getting ready for the winter, I have a lot to do and will not be getting in a ton of shop time until I am caught up.

I have been doing a lot of thinking and will return with a new format for selling my knives. I have been spending more time managing sales than I think I should, last week I spent 5 full days on the computer and two in the shop. I think a "buy it now" format will help a lot.

I was also selling my knives on another forum and will no longer do that, I have been doing some accounting and I have a huge back out rate over there which hurts the most. I also think that was a lot of the reason for so much computer time. You guys here on Bladeforums have been awesome to me and I know why I started here, it's the best!

You rokk!^
ok, no polytics but I had to get a Mantis folder with the Besh Wedge. It's Badazz. Do you guys like the Besh Wedge Blade?

I have never owned one but I think the concept is great. I'd really like to handle one made by Brent Beshara to see what they are all about.

I had requests for a Besh wedge Bali-song, sounds awesome to me! ...with permission of course

It is a truly unique idea, that is something you don't see a lot. I think the concept is awesome and have done a fair bit of reading about the grind. I want to do one!

Thanks guys. You need to see one in person. Some folks think the BW is chisel ground but it's not.

Cool, cool, cool...

You guys should check out Beshara's website, he has a cool 3d rendition of the grind. One of the knife magazines had an article too, I forget which one. AZ CK has some for sale too!

So I am making a Bali-song, lol I have spent $250 on it so far and it isn't started! I still need a few more tools... folder mode soon though! :D

No cool knife stuff going on here really but my living room is a lot safer for Jade! My wife needed a lot of help moving stuff and my place is a lot better. I had a picnic table for an entertainment center, lmao! Now I don't have wires everywhere and feel a lot better plus Jade has more safe area in which to play.

New full face respirator coming in this week, my old one rotted through in several places last week... (right after I washed it with Dawn?) I taped it and it just broke more! That is why I decided to get caught up here, I ground one day with it halfways on and was coughing up black stuff.

$68 shipped for a 3m full face, if you grind you owe yourself one. Double seal, no junk ever gets in your eyes like with safety glasses and they do not fog.

They are way better than a half face respirator... I went to the dentist with odd dental problems about a year ago and he looked at my teeth and asked if I wore a respirator! they are heavier but I can wear one all day

Lycosa, I'll check the folder, I didn't know about it.
btw I was talking about a different site, I am still rocking the toxic green. took me a minute to realize...

Safety first... thata boy, Daniel!
LMK what you think of the BW folder blade.
I wondered if you were still toxic green.

Yeah I'll grind in flip flops but not without a respirator, it gives me a little break from allergies too, lol!

I'll check that folder, sounds cool! I have a Wally Hayes katana video where he plays drums... talented guy!

Respirators are priceless! I still only have a half mask one, but went for the OV/AG P100 filters for when I'm doing fiberglass and paint work. I also use it when cleaning the bathroom with bleach! I try to stay conscious of the line of debris, I.e. not looking straight down on the cutting wheel, keeping out of line with rotating equipment. I once had a model airplane I was rebuilding and during motor tuning on the bench (an OS 60 size) I had the prop spin off and go flying at about 10000 RPM! Really taught me to stay out of the path of destruction!

Good on you for baby proofing the house! I took a more Darwinistic approach to baby proofing, but I don't have a coffee table and just put the end tables away for a few months during the learning to walk stage. Zyler still busted his mouth open on everything, its just bound to happen. It only takes 1/10 of a second and BOOM, they're on th ground crying and bleeding, or have a chipped tooth, or a black eye, or a cut on the head, or a lump, or a skined knee, or ..... you'll see!

I missed the postal run yesterday, I'm working early today too. I have tomorrow off and will get it mailed out for sure.

just wanted to stop in and say Hi.It has been a while. I have been working on some knives . I'm making a dagger for my mom . I finished my kiridashi . It came out better than the last one ,so that makes me happy.
Daniel ,can you tell me where I can pick up one of those full face respirators?68 bucks sounds like a good deal to me.
I am a fan of the Besh wedge also. I think a BW bali would be way cool!
Hope all is well with all you guys!

Makin a dag for momma?! That's like teachin the wife how to shoot, it just not a smart move. (Don't tell Jen I said that!) I'm gonna order some steel this coming week, let me know what you want to tack on the order.

I had high aspirations for my night; workout, shop time, pan searing some pork loins, spencerian script practice, lots of things I wanted to do. But I ended up building block castles with Zyler, racing hot wheels, losing several wrestling matches, fighting a 5' inflatable aligator, and in the agony of defeat I sulked on the couch, comforting my bruised ego (and ribs) with 3 fingers of bourbon and a grilld cheese made with rye and smoked gouda and a bit of horseradish. I went back for seconds, bourbon, that is. No complaints.

Daniel, care to share your A2 HT schedule? Damn Lycosa has got my brain runnin with the hamon talk.

Hi duuds.
Xander- The A2 hamon needs to be solved. You and Daniel can do it. Wanna get Pohan on board?

Walking back from the post office, one micrometer and wrench on its way to CO.

Morning guys!

I got the respirator on ebay from Blackhawk safety, you want the 3m 6700(sm) the 6800 (med) or the 6900 (large). There are other good ones but I had great luck with my last one and highly recommend it. It takes a few sessions to get used to but once you are you won't go back.

I use a very standard heat treat, 500f preheat in oven (second kiln here) 1350 preheat then ramp on full to 1750 for a 30 minute soak... plate quench. I need to look up my temper temperature as I forget but it is nothing special

No torch or clay for hamon, lol just magic. I really don't know...

Xander , the dagger isn't for Jen it is for my mom.I don't think my mom will stab me....I am pretty sure any way. When I rough ground it out I didn't think about how hard it is going to be to grind! I hope the grind comes out straight and it doesn't come out looking like a prison shank.

have a good day everyone.

Morning y'all!

I got that kamisori finished up yesterday and even shaved with it! It was a little harsh, but smooth. I need to work on the edge a bit more before I send it off to its new owner.

-Xander

nice, what made it harsh? I've been trying to sharpen/strop that razor that I showed you, but still can't get it to shave smooth, gonna have to re-evaluate my setup and technique I think.

I looked at the edge a little bit more and found a few spots weren't as sharp as the rest. Possibly some tin foiling of the edge in a spot or two, which means you sharpen it so fine that the steel becomes thin and flexibile like tin foil.

For that straight I would go to your 8K stone, edge trailing with very little pressure. Be sure that when you flip the razor you flip it over its spine, not the edge. Then try a CrO2 loaded strop or 1um diamond. After that go to a linen then plain leather. Each step you decrease the amount of pressure until the final steps are using just the weight of the razor. I prefer bench strops, and 3" wide or more. Hanging strops can convex your edge and dull it if used improperly. If that's all you have then be sure to pull it tight!

You aren't putting tape on the spine are you? Also use a loupe or scope to check the edge, it should be smooth. If all else fails, I know a couple guys down in RI that will hone it for cheap, or you can send it to me for the cost of shipping.
