Hey guys! Big, hang in there man! Had a good weekend, my mom and dad are watching my niece and nephew for a few days, so I had them over last night to play with my son and have pizza for dinner. Man that was tiring! My son will be 3 in Sept, my nephew 5 in Sept, and my niece is 7. Lots of screaming, running, playing.

I also picked up my 1917 from the gunsmith yesterday, he does some nice work! He retired 26 years ago now, but is a sharp as he ever was, just a little slower moving now. I guess the money I saved having him do the work I made up for in the hours spent just talking with him. 3.5 hours just talking guns before I even paid him! He took me down to his basement where he has a whole different shop setup. His safe is an old bank safe from turn of the century! A very extensive reloading room, the coolest little Emco Unimat3 lathe I have ever seen! The entire thing was maybe 15" long.

Well now that I got my gun back I can really get going on that project, mainly the stock. It is now ready to have the fit fine tuned and dialed in, because I now have the sight line set with scope and rings.

The scope is a beater BSA 6-24x40 I keep around for different projects like these so I can save up to get the glass I really want to use. This gun will eventually be getting 4-12x40 redfield with a duplex reticle.

Great Photo! Your gunsmith sounds like a good guy, that is cool you know him. You know you are getting me very interested in guns! Too cool!

I don't know about the scope but teh one you want sounds killer! The on it looks great to my untrained eye.

I had a seriously great day today in the shop , I'm still itchy from grinding G10 most of the day but it was a very good one. I also have the Ti Bottle Openers in the works, I am just amped!

Mornin y'all. Not to crap in the kool-aid, but my city is now the largest city in the country to ever file bankruptcy! Ugh, my city government is retarded! I can't blame it all on the current council, but they are just as guilty as the past councils.

Well I'm not going to get worked up right now, not the time or place, but it frustrates the hell outta me!

Have a good one everybody!

That's it, no kool aid for me! :D I live in a bizarre area myself, not a subdivision but not part of the counties plan, they stopped accepting new road work/etc in 1975. We just do what we can to make it all work, it is wacky to say the least.

That is very good news to hear! We have been thinking of you guys all day, glad the surgery is over.

Late lunch here. I have a lot of the new batch very close! Handles are shaped and looking good.

Good morning knuts! Knives? Did someone here say KNIVES? :D

I like knives.
I love knives.
I make knives.
I have knives.
I use knives.
I carry knives.
I want moar knives!

If it's less than 105 deg. outside today I just may go and finish out the handle on my camp knife. Sassafras scales on 1095!

Thanks Daniel, sassafras sounds cooler then it really is though. This is just some stuff I cut, it's straight grained and tan colored with slightly darker grain. No real figure. Smells good when your working it though :D I'll try to get some pics up when it's finished.

EDIT: I checked the forecast and there's a high of 104... :(

Morning guys! Having machaca con frijoles and coffee this morning. Always does a body good!

Learned a valuable lesson yesterday, don't give an idiot a knife. Especially one you sharpened first!

One of my co-workers is just "that dude," you know the ones always goofing off, but going too far with it much of the time. He pretends to fight you, but actually hits you hard and doesn't know when to stop. You gt the picture. He's young, 22, he always asked about my knives and admired them. I had this old beat up tear drop jack with jigged bone and NS bolsters that I wasn't terribly fond of. It had some issues, it had an etching on the blade, just not my thing. So I clean it up, sharpen it up and give it to him about 2 months ago. I was actually pretty proud of him, he would carry it every day, used it all the time and even though he fought the air with his knife open all the time, I generally wasn't too worried about him having it.

Well yesterday, I was receiving a large shipment and then he came on shift. First thing he does is get out his knife and start stabbing boxes, fighting the air, and pestering me. Well he was fighting the air with his knife and during a sweeping uppercut-slashing move I turned around right into him and he sliced a large gash into my right middle finger! It was at an acute angle, like carving off a slice of meat, from my middle knuckle down to the tip of my finger. It didn't hurt, it just bled and bled and bled! He freaked out and was apologizing profusely. I reminded him that I could have written him up for it, but I wasn't going to. Just keep the knife in your pocket until needed.

I don't think it needs stitches, CA glue seems to be holding it quite well. Don't give an idiot a knife.

Xander, I have a "that dude" at my work also.I tried the whole " a knife is a tool it has to be respected" speach but I don't think he will ever get it. I had to go a different path with him and to ld him if he is ever F'in' around and he cuts me I will beat him within an inch of his life. seemed to have worked.Well Xander I hope it heals up soon. I know you use your middle finger alot:D.Have a good one everyone.

I hear you guys, I had a guy shove an opened utility knife into my hand when I asked him to pass it, some people just don't have much sense around knives.

I was a chef a while back, luckily most chef's have good knife safety so at most of my jobs people were cool in that regard. I did cut myself a lot though!

I have been cutting stone today for menukis, I only have 14,000 and 50,000 grits left to go! They are at 3000 and look like glass.

I just wanted to say thanks again to all of you! Have momma home now and trying to get her to relax.Feels good to be home.I hate hotels.I would rather sleep under the stars than a hotel.
Also wanted to say what a true class act that Daniel is.Let me just say he is the man with para cord!!!!I have my mother in law up here for 2 weeks to help out.I am about to celebrate 3 years of sobriety.I am hoping I make it the 2 weeks with out getting bent out of shape and deciding to go sailing with the captain!!!!

Welp, my thermometer showed 108 deg. outside, it didn't stop me but it should have. I did discover that I need to start keeping water in the shop with me. I made a new strop, roughed out a small kiridashi and finished the handle on this oh-so-fun-to-use camp knife :D I put a stain on the sassafras, it's much lighter then this naturally.

108! That's hot!

That knife is looking stellar! The sassafras does look very good to me, the way the grain runs is too cool. Thanks for taking the time to post the pics, nice... Cool patina by the way, looks like feather damascus.

Menukis, oh man my camera is killing me. I took a few dozen photos after they were finished but they came out really dark, I need to figure out if my camera is OK. Pics soon or I'm going to town for a camera. I did get one photo I posted in the progress update thread for the current batch.
