Good stuff Andrew! I don't miss sailing the pigs that are collgic classes like the CFJ and C420, but I do miss the regattas! Maybe someday I'll see you on the race course, or we can race on the same boat! I have a very close friend who is working for Team Oracle in the Americas Cup right now, and maybe if you head down for the races I'll see what strings I can pull.

Morning y'all! I'm in need of caffeine! Got a few rats outta the almond tree last night, but I was up way too late doing so. I also got another of my vintage pellet pistols up and running temporarily yesterday. I ordered all new seals and a new barrel, but dropped a couple hardware store o-rings in just to shoot it in the mean time. Its a Crosman MK I, the stopped making these in 1980 and mine is from the early 70's. It is a copy of the Ruger MK I pistol and is a very high quality pistol. Co2 powered, .22 caliber and loads of fun! The barrel on this one is pitted down one side from laying in a drawer and having condensation build up in the barrel, rusting and pitting. It just won't group well enough for me, 1" at 6 yards, two hand grip and rested. It should be a on hole grop lik that!

Evening gang!

Finishing up another dreadfully boring night at work. This time change really slows things down after 6pm around here.

Hope everyone is having a good one!

Good morning gang . Xander, I know what you mean about it being slow at work It has been like a gost town at the bike shop too.Yesterday at work someone was talking about the price of gas and I realized I have not perchased gas in over 4 years:eek::D More money for knives!:D
have a good one y'all !

Afternoon y'all.

Got another two day storm on the way, but its been in the 80's the last couple days. It is November, isn't it?!

Been having fun with the pellet guns lately. Been practicing for a match every day and have gotten considerably more consistant. Posting up better scores and less fliers.

I really need to get going on some razors now that I have my steel. I think I will start a couple this weekend.

Very nice here too but snow expected this weekend! It has been in the 60's and sunny.

I need to shoot mine some more, I am the pine tree branch assassin! Fun stuff. I want to get a simple pop back up trap target too...

Nice on the steel, the kamisori was super cool! I can't wait to see some more.

Working on pics and other things here, fixing our porch and stuff...

That is to funny .... I don't have time for the bronchitis either!!! LORD JESUS !!!! haaha. I found some time to grind some steel today . I started on that piece of 1084 you sent Xander a while ago. The top pic is the piece of 1084 you gave Xander and he split with me. The 2nd is my hollow grind attempt that didn't come out as a hollow grind but it cuts like a ...uummm a knife .Thanks Daniel for the steel and thanks Xander for sharing

Really cool! Man your grinds are coming out really clean! The finished knife just looks killer and the 1084 one is coming along nicely.

I'm impressed, good work!

Is that an OD/orange combo? looks sweet! I have some green canvas layed up with orange g10 like that...

Thank you Daniel! I can't wait to get a REAL grinder and about a thousand belts! The color combo is OD & brick red but the OD & orange sounds killer.Jen hates it when I patina the blade. She likes them all shiny. Lime juice hamon FTW!haha. If you have not checked it ,check your email . Have a great day!

Nice on the OD/red, that rocks! Way cool... I must try that as well.

Lemon juice FTW! lmao very nice! I have an O1 parer like that in my kitchen and the patina really helps out with maintenance.

I sent you an email this morning, let me know if you didn't get it. I swear some disappear... sounds good man.

Morning everyone!

Hey guys! It has started raining a few minutes ago. Its getting cold here, down to 60* or so now.

Got a new rear wheel built for my mountain bike today. I had to choose between building the wheel or rebuilding/restoring a pistol. Well knowing that the pistol will not be a quick project I decided to leave it for another day.

Nice Xander! Super busy here, family is staying with us for another few days... fun times and getting a lot done.

We had a fair bit of snow here, about two and a half inches.

Afternoon men.I apologize for not being on more.I have been running for doctor appts.Seems I have to have another spinal surgery.Where they removed the other disk it collapsed causing the disk above and below the area to rupture. So talk about having a hard time getting around!!!Just want to say i am still keeping up on Daniels work!

Good to see you posting here again. Hopefully they can take care of it properly this time around!

Big, best wishes man . I hope the doctors get you all fixed up!
Daniel, sounds like all is going well . I am jealous of the snow . I think it has been over 10 years since we saw any snow in these parts and even then it was a VERY light dusting.
have a good weekend y'all.

Evening men.

Big, hang tough brotha! Don't let them keep you down, we're prayin all the best for ya!

Daniel, you can have the snow! I much prefer liquid water. What's your snow ratio this time of year, 13:1 or so? If the Sierra snow wasn't so dense and wet I might enjoy it more, its closer to 8:1. The new bike wheel is so much nicer than the cheap temporary wheel I put on it 5 years ago, lighter, stronger, and matching my custom front wheel!

Rock update! I got one all set up for you. I've finished lapping it now, tested it out a bit and have a good idea on how it should be used. It is a finishing stone, should be used after 600# or so, or for bevel setting on razors and very fine edges. It doesn't leave a high polish, probably about a 2500# or so. If you vary the pressure and let a slurry build up it then works like a 4K stone, maybe a little higher.

This one is a good usable size, and I'm sure you can lap it further for more surface area if you like. I (finally!) found my jewelers loupe and used it to take some close-ups of the veins and what looks like dendrites.

This is a close up without the loupe of a vein (intersecting white lines) in the stone, it is about .005"-.007" wide.

Here is the same vein under 10x magnification with my Bausch & Lombe loupe, focal distance is approx 1cm

And this is what appears to be dendrites. Also under 10x magnification.

I also have a chunk of the green/white soapy stone I am sending you. I may take it to the belt grinder but I don't know if I'm going to spend the time lapping it by hand again. It took forever last time! I'm sure you have better equipment for that stuff than me. I'm not entirely convinced that the green stone has a use much in sharpening, other than maybe to be used as a "steel" to realign a rolled edge. It does put a very nice polish on an edge, though.

It should be going out sometime this coming week, I'll let you know when it does.

hey guys! Great to see everyone here, Xander, BigCountry, Shaymanx, Flatblackcapo! I hope everyone is doing great!

BigCountry, you know we're all rooting for you!

No time here but I'll be back soon! Family is just leaving and I have not had a minute it seems... we did get a ton done and I really needed to, I have been in the shop so much all year we were really behind on everything. Good stuff here and we are all doing great but man is it cold!

It hasn't gotten up to 25F yet today, yesterdays snow is still here 100% at my place. I tried to post a pic but photobucket is down.

Xander I really don't know the ratio of the snow, we have had wet snow the last few years because of La Nina and dry before that which is more common here. This last stuff turn rock solid as it snowed, rained then plummeted hard in temp from the clear skies. Supposedly this year it is up for grabs. I really hope we get the dry light stuff as it is way easier to remove, the wet stuff just kills my blower and plow. Once we had to hand shovel my entire road because it was so wet, it took three days to get out.

I can't really tell but those could be healed fractures in the stone or dendrites. Either way cool stuff! I have some mudstone that has such good dendrites it looks like painted scenes on the rock.

This piece is mostly mudstone, I have way nicer stuff from this hard to get to location. I'd try it for a hone but it is grainy material in spots. http://books.google.com/books?id=oS...cture stone the notch la plata canyon&f=false

Check the second pic down (in the above link) for "the notch" in the background, that is where the rock comes from; it is one gnarly ride there! I made it in my T100 but almost flipped it going 5 mph near the boiler in the foreground on the nearly flat ground, lol it got bumpy.
